Epstein guards admit to falsifying records, will skirt jail time in deal with prosecutors
The two jail employees tasked with guarding pedophile Jeffrey Epstein the night of his suicide in a Manhattan jail have admitted to falsifying records — but will skirt time behind bars under a deal with prosecutors.
Tova Noel and Michael Thomas admitted that they “willfully and knowingly” lied on forms stating that they’d made the required rounds checking on inmates the night of Epstein’s August 2019 suicide
Prosecutors said the guards were sleeping and surfing the web when they should have been monitoring the maximum security federal prisoner, who had recently been on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
Under a plea deal announced Friday, they will avoid jail time in connection with their misconduct.
Instead, the disgraced duo will be required to complete 100 hours of community service and cooperate with a federal probe, according to the agreement, which must be approved by a judge.
“After a thorough investigation, and based on the facts of this case and the personal circumstances of the defendants, the Government has determined that the interests of justice will best be served by deferring prosecution in this District,” US Attorney Audrey Strauss wrote to Federal Judge Analisa Torres, in a letter filed Friday.
Noel and Thomas, who were working overtime shifts, allegedly sat just five yards from Epstein’s cell, but shopped online and took breaks instead of checking his cell every 30 minutes as required.
A New York medical examiner ruled that the government’s high profile prisoner — a billionaire serial predator linked to former presidents, titans of industry and international dignitaries — did indeed die from suicide by hanging at one of the nation’s most secure jails.
A 2019 poll revealed that only a third of Americans believed the nature of Epstein’s death was accurately reported.

There's the thing, especially with mysterious deaths. More often than not simple laziness and/or stupidity are to blame than conspiracy. Plain old dumbassness is underrated.

I can quite easily believe that a millionaire playboy accustomed to living it up with the wealthy and famous would choose death over being compelled to testify against friends and decades in prison. I mean, thats one helluva change to go through. I think its plausible that Epstein did kill himself, but paid the guards to look the other way and maybe help him in some way such as cut a bedsheet for him.

You can bet on it - but will never prove it - Untouchable billionaires need to eliminate someone you can be sure they know how to do it right. When Prince Andrew was exposed the rest of Epsteins friends probably got really nervous, and you know the rest of the stroy.
Epstein himself had enough money to probably keep himselp out of jail - But collteral damage done to his 'friends' was more than they were willing to risk. They just anounced the guards who weren't paying attention would get off easy - The fix was in!

I don't know, the shock value of the whole Epstein case wore off with me a long time ago. At any given time there are thousands of people doing what he did, except with much smaller budgets and non-celebrity clientelle. Las Vegas is crowded with this sort of thing. I'm glad that the story is coming to light and the players are being exposed, but in the end we see that human appetites and desires are the same as they always have been. Where there is a demand, someone is going to fill it whether it is coming from A-list celebs or ordinary guys who are willing to pay their hard earned wages for something they can't get otherwise.
