Growing up our Slovak family made a pastry called poppy seed roll. The way the women made it was poppy seed and raisins rolled up in a thin bread crust. Since all my elders have passed away I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. The grocery stores make it without raisins, the heathens! My wife tracked the roll on a website. She bought one for me to try out. Nirvana! It was perfect. I can now purchase it and pass onto the great unknown a happy Slovak.

Bread made in the Arthur Ave area. Coarse real bread. They used to have a location in GCT but I think it closed. We can get this stuff at the local supermarket now. Yummy.

I recently got attached to natural peanut butter - old school without all the added sugar and salt. Seems a bit bland at first but after a while if you try to have regular Jif or Skippy you go into a sugar coma. I lather the natural stuff up on some toast or a muffin in the morning and it keeps me going until lunch easily. I do the same with commercial brands and I am half asleep two hours later.

This is an annual ritual when we set the tree up. That takes ten seconds because it's only 18" tall.

Stewart's is a local chain and their dairy products are excellent. There is only One True Nog and this is it - all the rest are the first losers, they are fauxnog. That cheap rum just happened to be what got grabbed first, it doesn't really matter what kind although the dark is tasty. Two of those last night and my pancreas tried to flee my body. Slippery little bastard - back to work with it though, it's busy.

O & H Bakery in Racine, Wisconsin has been a source of deliciousness my whole life. It was only local and didn't ship well. Now it does ! I've also heard rumors it was at Trader Joe's. Very sugary once in a while snack with coffee or if you have the raging munchies. Makes a good holiday gift and no, I am not affiliated with them in any way but I've walked to their store on the north side of Racine many times.
