Civil Unrest & Protests

Mrs.Pigfarmer and I were just chewing the fat at the breakfast table. No doubt this will get me labeled a Todd or Karen or just a*****e, but here you go:

Read a book years ago called Trooper Down about the (I think) North Carolina State Police. An officer mentioned that traffic stops on vans were cause for concern since you can't really tell what's inside as you walk up on it in a traffic stop. They made it s.o.p to touch the side of the vehicle to leave a fingerprint in case they were suddenly gunned down so there might be evidence later if needed. That little factoid is a bit sobering and should give you some insight as to what it's like to walk up on a strange vehicle on a roadside alone.

Since I drove a service truck with no windows, cages and all that I took the advice to heart. Statistically with the amount of time I spent on the road I got pulled over a number of times. Rarely ticketed and here's why: I shut the vehicle off kept my hands up on the steering wheel and didn't say a word until spoken to. When inevitably asked 'do you know how fast you were going' I never lied or tried to be clever. Way I look at it, this cop does this a million times a week and just wants it over with. I just did my best to get through it and never had a real problem. Definitely some annoying ones but never one that rose to a serious level. Local cops are the worst and present the greatest chance of poor behavior, IMO.

I realize that if I happen to be black, maybe owned a nice car and constantly got pulled over constantly because I fit a profile I'd be pissed with good reason. I got utterly lost once in San Antonio with a coworker. They put the highways up on giant concrete poles down there and it confuses the hell out of Yankees. Cops saw a white man and a black man driving a rental car suspiciously in a rough Latino neighborhood - we instantly won the prize because we fit the drug seeking profile. The prize was to have our car and our persons tossed on the curbside. My friend wasn't an American citizen and Jesus, I thought they were going to snap on a glove and examine his prostate right there on the street. I was absolutely pissed and can say that the city cops were something less than professional. Left us a big mess and a few sarcastic comments and a big F-U from me to the city of San Antonio. Humiliating and infuriating.

But I understand what happened.

I had to endure it and get past it, like apiece of corn flowing through your system.

What do you suppose might have happened if I had not cooperated?

Fighting with the cop on the street is a pointless recipe for disaster and can precipitate behavior from that very human officer that demonstrates that not everyone reacts well under stress. If Jacob Blake - that fine specimen of humanity that no doubt you would have been happy to invite over for dinner - had just shut the f**k up and stood still he'd still be alive and free to continue living his life pure as the driven snow. But of course, saying that brands me a horrible racist without empathy or understanding. God forbid we might be accountable for our own actions - but in 2020 as long as there is someone else to point as say they are worse, we aren't. To suggest that racial inequality and police behavior might be something to hash out without violence in a public forum, well God, just vote me right off the planet. That would be Krazy Talk. Time for another efficacious Beer Summit.

I learned my lessons about dealing with the fuzz years ago. Regardless of their moral standing, they are the brass.

Two different scenarios, Different points in life

Scenario 1, I was 22 years old, Some guy in a parking lot pulled our in front of me squealing tires all through the parking lot just to be an ass, A cop who was just over the hill, from his perspective Thought That I had done this in my vehicle, of course, because I was right behind the guy. of course, The first thing I say is, Look, man, I don't care what you think that wasn't me and I can prove it, I am in a tiny 2006 Lexus and the tire marks are from a much larger truck, So the Cop, No pissy, Says, I never said it was you, So I asked then Why did you pull me over? The situation degraded until I was put in jail for calling him a mother F***er.. Honestly, People just don't understand my situation, I honestly didn't care if I went to jail that night...

Situation 2, I was slightly older, Now around 33 years, I get pulled over by what is called a State trooper, These are the kind of guys who can chase you across state boarder. I had a half-ounce of weed in the Passengers seat next to me. Blue lights go off, I pull over, Just knowing I'm going to jail and the guy steps up to the car, He looks just Like My Dad, The spitting image, And I am kind of high, So I ask if this is a joke, I mean look, I know what my father looks like, This guy, Looked exactly like my dad. I don't know what confused expression I had on my face, But this officer kneeled down next to my window, Asked for my license and looked at it, And then shined his light on to my weed, Which he fully saw, He then said, You are literally two blocks away from your home. Go there now, And If I see you out again tonight you are going to jail.

I went home, Got High, and never forgot that incident. Not all Cops are Bad, Not all Authority is Bad. There are just bad people in every group that happens to be large enough.

I am sure there are good politicians in this world, The problem is, When people Vote, They literally don't vote for the best person for the Job, They Vote for the most popular, The most entertaining.

Consider, I am nonpolitical. I don't have a grudge against Trump, I don't, But the Man literally rose to prominence on Stage, Calling people Low Iq people, Talking about his literal ***k Size And saying if Ivanka wasn't his daughter, he would totally..... I mean, Come on, Who says that about their Daughter? That's literally a person whom he changed the Diapers of, I assume. No, Just no,, People didn't Vote tump in for his Empirical Morality.

People wonder Why I am a Loner that has very little faith in the common man. Well, I live in a world that tells me, Trump was literally the best man for the job, and What's worse is, he really was..

That says a lot about the current state of things honestly.

It all leads to the Civil war.

civil war? Never.

You are just going to screw up your phenomenal democracy and get a dictatorship instead. Somebody like Trump, will fake election, like this Belarusian Lichachenko or Russian Putin, and rule by decree as a tcar for 30-40 years.

That wholesome, everyone around the dinner table mom dressed in pearls, Kids in the boy scouts. That whole image, Literally never existed anywhere but in people's imaginations. Yet, It is such an iconic Lie, People believe that it Did.

I would like to say, Someday, Things will Change, The Truth is, Things won't Change Till this government Collapses, But don't worry, It will, Everything with a beginning, does have an end.

Hope ., is Defined, As Both Desire and Expectation. So, We Don't hope For Change..

We Await the Fact, That Change is as inevitable as Death and Taxes. Change Will come, Sooner, Or Later.
it is Inevitable.

Jacob Blake was shot multiple times but survived the shooting.

You're right. Been enough of them, just lost track.

Same logic applies, he'd be fine if he just shut up and stood still. This guy wasn't Breonna Taylor or Botham Jean.

You need to bring in martial law, National Guard, whatever. Things are going totally crazy. Till this morning I didn't realize that there have been 3 months of continuous unrest in Portland, OR.

BUT, you have to address social issues and other problems these protestors are protesting about. You can not just bury your head in sand and cast these people aside, they are your own. On he end of the day you can't just replace them with AI, they will be called upon to give their lives in some of the next wars that America will inevitably fight.

Yes, 100%. The destruction and violence needs to be be stopped right now. Anyone participating in it is nothing more than a criminal, and these people only respond to force. At the same time, and this is EXTREMELY important, we need to recognize that none of this happened in a vacuum. The police do have a long history of bad behavior which needs to be addressed, also for too long the cops have been tasked with doing things they should not be doing in the first place. It doesn't mean that all cops are bad or that we should disestablish all law enforcement. It does mean that we need to be creative about finding solutions to these problems, and firmly decide that we are not going to just quietly go back to being content with the status quo when the violence dies down.

I watched some footage of the Portland protests last week. I was surprised that there were only minor outbreaks of violence between the two sides, with each restraining their own members who engaged in scuffles. These took the form of fisticuffs and the use of bear spray. I was not surprised then to hear that a protestor was shot dead over the weekend (the victim appears to be on the pro-Trump side), only that this level of violence had not happened sooner.

Could this result eventually in pitched battles between these groups on the streets, with more widespread gun violence? I don't think that you could describe such a state as 'civil war' because it seems to be two opposite lunatic fringes of the political spectrum engaging with one another.

Unfortunately ‘the police’ isn’t a monolithic entity. Cops are just citizens and are a reflection of our society. There’s more wrong here than just law enforcement

There seems to be more of a command structure among the organized protesters, and - thank God - openly carrying weapons seems to be more done as a statement than with an expectation to use them. The small but dangerous Antifa type groups and opportunistic common criminals and hoodlums seem to be responsible for nearly all the violence and destruction.

Yes, but they do create divisions between themselves and other citizens that can birth a holier than thou sense of superiority which causes many of the problems to happen. I worked for a large police department for 6 years and observed this firsthand. By the end of my time working there, I really did not like the direction that the organization was taking and felt very uncomfortable around the coppers. The general feeling was, if you didn't have a badge you were a second class citizen, something like a guest worker.

The shadow

The shadow knows!
TRUMP insisted on going to Kenosha.
The mayor dose not want him there. The governor of the state does not want him there. He plans on meeting with police and viewing the damage.
He has NO plans to meet with the family of the shooting victim.
This visit will enflame the protesters
The violence will continue.

President Trump should go to Kenosha and to Portland and to Seattle, damn the protesters and what they might like or dislike, they aren't protesters anyway, they are anarchists, and barbarians...Nothing they are doing I would call protesting...President Trump should also have them all locked up...

Kenosha News - 7 County Board supervisors to Trump: "Please do not cancel your plans to visit Kenosha"

A number of Kenosha County Board supervisors have sent a letter to President Trump, encouraging him to come to Kenosha Tuesday. Gov. Tony Evers is asking him to reconsider.

The letter says:

“Please do not cancel your plans to visit Kenosha to meet with citizens and business owners devastated by the violence that took place this past week.

“Kenoshans are hurting and looking for leadership, and your leadership in this time of crisis is greatly appreciated by those devastated by the violence in Kenosha.

“Many Kenoshans are very grateful for the federal assistance that your administration provided. The relief was felt countywide once federal and local law enforcement agencies were able to take the proactive steps to prevent additional crime, instead of being outnumbered and spread too thin.

“We would be honored to have you come to Kenosha so citizens can thank you in person."

It could grow into groups shooting at one another I suppose but doubt it.
If two "opposite lunatic fringes of the political spectrum" resort to guns to make their point then there's one side that is probably not quite as well prepared, just saying.

Seattle Antifa hid weapons cache inside tents at occupied park

Criminal Antifa activists and other Seattle agitators hid deadly weapons inside tents at a park they were occupying across the street from the East Precinct on Capitol Hill. The activists purportedly occupied portions of Cal Anderson Park to help provide resources for homeless residents.

But during a sweep Monday morning, Seattle police found scores of weapons, including a machete, hatchet, homemade spike strips, an unexploded mortar, and well over a dozen makeshift shields.
