Solar Eclipse

The total solar eclipse begins near Lincoln City, Oregon, at 10:15 a.m. PDT (1:15 p.m. EDT). Totality ends at 2:48 p.m. EDT near Charleston, South Carolina. The partial eclipse will start earlier and end later, but the total eclipse itself will take about one hour and 40 minutes to cross the country. NASA will fund a host of science projects that will occur during this unique period of time.

Amazon is refunding customer purchases for protective solar eclipse glasses that it hasn’t been able to confirm come from a reputable manufacturer, according to a safety notification from the company.

Excitement has been building for the upcoming solar eclipse across the United States on August 21st, and would-be eclipse viewers have purchased protective glasses from retailers such as Amazon.com. However, not all of the glasses found on the site are safe to use, with some vendors selling counterfeit or unsafe versions.

Amazon appears to have been cracking down on these suspect glasses. Pages for products such as “MASCOTKING Solar Eclipse Glasses 2017 - CE and ISO Certified Safe Shades for Direct Sun Viewing -- Eye Protection” and others that the company hasn’t been able to verify as coming from a recommended manufacturer have been removed from the site. Customers who purchased these glasses are getting refunds, along with a warning not to use them. The notification also says that customers don’t need to return the glasses in order to get a refund.

Experts say an ancient petroglyph on a free-standing rock in Chaco Canyon could possibly portray the solar eclipse that occurred over New Mexico on July 11, 1097. The rare petroglyph shows a circle with curved, intricate swirling emissions extending outwards – possibly depicting a coronal mass ejection, which are most visible during a total eclipse.

While people are getting excited about the upcoming solar eclipse (August 21), Emeritus J. McKim “Kim” Malville, a CU Boulder Professor, claims that an ancient petroglyph in New Mexico's Chaco Canyon may depicts a total eclipse that took place almost a thousand years ago, CU Boulder Today reports . Apparently, our ancestors were just as curious and quick to share news about a solar eclipse, but in the absence of computers and social media they used more primitive ways to “catch” the breathtaking solar eclipse…rock art.

-First contact is in the state of Oregon, the 33rd state in the USA. The last contact is in South Carolina on the 33rd parallel. This eclipse happens on day 233 of the year. If the Revelation 12 sign is valid, then the eclipse is also 33 days before September 23, 2017. Jesus is thought to have been 33 when He died.

-Just for fun: It is 99 years (3 x 33) since the last eclipse to go coast-to-coast in the US, in 1918. From September 23, 2017 (Revelation 12 sign) to the end of the year, December 31, 2017 is 99 days (or 3 x 33). The number of days from the 1918 eclipse to the August 21 eclipse are 26,234 days. (2+6+2+3+4 = 17; 2017?). From August 12, 2017, the date of the Charlottesville Virginia “State of Emergency” declared to the August 21, 2017 Great Solar Eclipse is 9 days (3+3+3) and the dates are also mirrored – 12 and 21.
