The nature of time.

I've spent so long studying physics I just assume certain theories aren't just possible they are likely.

What if time really doesn't exist. What if there is no past. What is there is no future? What if, Now is all that exists. and the only force of change is entropy? Sure time is relative. but just because time flows at different speeds doesn't mean that those different speeds aren't all transpiring right at this moment. What if time is simply a measurement, An illusion of our own creation and the concept of altering it is nothing but a fleeting fantasy?

I imagine that time is relative and does flow differently, I mean the corrections that have to be in place for satellites to work properly are based on the fact that time is relative. But even though the physical matter is affected by its distance and acceleration doesn't mean that all events aren't happening in real time. (The Present)

I've spent years studying physics. Most of you guys know this. As I get older, A lot of the scientific theory is beginning to sound more and more like Star Trek jargon, to be honest.

I've lost my mind many times over the years. But a mind is like any other aspect of life. You can always pick up the pieces and reassess the situation.

Well...

Physicists treat time as continuous.

Doesn't have to be.

If space is discrete on the subplanck scale, time is probably discrete.

Are we even sure its flowing continuously in one direction ? could it be a wave function ? Going forwards, slowing down, halting , and then reversing.. speeding up again

Well, I've been questioning a lot of scientific theory lately, But, If Quantum theory holds any water at all, It would have to be a wave function me thinks :)

More like a spiral...

It isn't a wave function (well not exactly).

Copenhagen is wrong, pilot theory is right.

There is a particle and a subspace wave front, think speed boat.

If you look at the water, it is a wave, if you look at the boat, it is a boat.

Watch the video in the EMDrive thread.

If we are going with spirals, Are you guys familiar with string theory, specifically the part where it's speculated that the reason we cant see dimensions beyond the 3rd are because it's speculated that those higher dimensions are curled and compacted into very tiny spaces?

For reference How can one imagine curled up dimensions?

What if time functions in a similar way?

So the wave itself is just a disturbance upon the surface of time?

this will take me time to process, I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm saying it blew my mind and I need time to consider this. Thank you CB :)

interesting topic  but i might have a hard time understanding it, I have stopped learning physics years ago. Like to see you guys talking about it tho.

With me, I reached an impasse with physics. I studied the subjects for so long. I may have actually suffered burnout. But it allowed me time to take a break from all the speculation and theories and approach physics from a different angle.

I've been looking at physics in a more practical sense lately. It's nice to understand theories. But I decided at one point or another that it was the time I cleaned up all the theory and just looked at what was proven a fact.

It's been enlightening for me. kind of like cleaning up all the bloatware from a hard drive. after so long one takes on so much theory that they forget to look at what is proven true. Science, The proven factual part of it. Is still a very amazing subject :)

Let's get everyone up to speed on what pilot waves are:

As a side note for you SUSY fans - they still haven't found any supersymmetric particles which should exist if the theory is valid.

Yes. supersymmetry is still (undetected) But consider that the observable universe may be an infinitely small fraction of whats really out there though.

Yes and no.

If they can't find a single supersymmetric particle of any kind...

How long do you fish around in your pocket for your keys before you conclude they aren't there?

No supersymmetric particles = no supersymmetry.

can I ask, Why must supersymmetry occur on the atomic level? I feel like we have observed supersymmetry, at least a loose definition of it.

The objective as I understand it in supersymmetry is to attempt to find a connection between Gravity and the other fundamental forces of the universe. well, I submit, That space-time as a gravitational force is an example of supersymmetry in some regards. But this is honestly just me grasping at straws for physical examples, We know that gravity has it effects on time itself right? Well, Time is also a property of entropy, Chaos or disorder. A fundamental atomic force.

Idk. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong or something. I do feel there could be a correlation between space-time and supersymmetry though.

Im wearing socks of opposing colors righ now. They are the same brand tho.. thats a form of macro level SUSY. Isnt it?

Ah, the irony... tastes like grilled cheese. Or maybe I'm just craving a grilled cheese. I see what you are saying. If supersymmetry can't be found at the atomic level then it's not the kind of supersymmetry we are looking for.

I still want that grilled cheese though.

Just because Casual hasnt found SUSY yet, doesnt mean it isnt there. She could be avoiding him. Or he looking at the wrong places p10
