I found it. Considering it is Fox News there is no telling how accurate it is.

Virginia school system cancels Dr. Seuss, citing racial 'undertones' in writings: report

Supposedly there is research claiming that only 2 % of Dr. Suess characters are non-white???? Go Dog Go, Red Fish Blue Fish, Horton Hears a Who, where are the "white" characters in those stories?

The above link has a this link and the title is exactly the point in my opinion. "Woke" means scared, biggotted and arrogant in my opinion. Control freaks gone mad.

Oh The Places The Woke Will Go: Dr. Seuss Canceled For ‘Racial Undertones’

The first paragraph of the article explains why...

OK. so he reads what someone gives him to say, just like Reagan, except he is not a trained actor and has trouble remembering his lines sometimes. People forget our president is a representative of our leaders, not The Leader and the game is to blame each president for anything that the congress and senate does, or that his owners tell him to do, that we don't like instead of focusing on getting rid of the old reprobates that get re-elected over and over, pretending like they are doing "a good job"; so any time I see a president blamed for something that doesn't sound right I look it up to see what really went on and who actually did it. We haven't had a president with a mind of his own since Nixon, with the possible exception of Trump whose mind was on another planet or some "king for a day" video game. There is always an agenda and the president is always owned by someone just like 90% of congress and the senate.

Well this is not a political thread so I'm not going to start haggling about who said what and who's to get blamed for what, too much of that going on in the world already and that's part of the problems we're having now...No one wants take responsibility for themselves and want to blame others for everything under the sun...

I agree with you, it is a bad habit and I am guilty of it. I just think the Dr. Suess thing is another attempt at division, not by politicians. Not sure who but It is getting so that I don't believe anything any more.

This would be the ultimate result of all these attempts at dividing the people, once the people as a whole cannot trust nor believe those elected and in authority, well empires crumble and collapse, barbarism becomes the norm...I hope I don't live to see it happen but it seems we're heading there...

My most immediate thought in reading this was it reminded me of the Kurt Vonnegut dystopian science-fiction short story published in 1961 entitled Harrison Bergeron In case you have never read this short story, let me briefly summarize it for you:
  • In the year 2081, the 211th, 212th, and 213th amendments to the Constitution dictate that all Americans are hereafter fully equal and not allowed to be smarter, better-looking, or more physically able than anyone else. The Handicapper General's agents enforce the equality laws, forcing citizens to wear "handicaps": masks for those who are too beautiful, implant loud radios that disrupt thoughts inside the ears of intelligent people making them average and impose heavy weights for the graceful, strong or athletic.
One April, 14-year-old Harrison Bergeron, an intelligent, athletic, and good-looking teenager, is taken away from his parents, George and Hazel Bergeron, by the government, who exists, they are told to care for their every need. . They are barely aware of the tragedy, as Hazel, Harrison’s mother, has "average" intelligence (a euphemism for stupidity), and George, his father has a handicap radio installed by the government to regulate his exceptional intelligence.
Hazel and George avid fans of the ballet and are watching the ballet on television. They comment on the dancers, who are weighed down to counteract their gracefulness and beautiful physiques. They are also wearing masks to hide their attractiveness. George's thoughts are continually interrupted by the different noises emitted by his handicap radio, which piques Hazel's curiosity and imagination regarding handicaps. Noticing his exhaustion, Hazel urges George to lie down and rest his "handicap bag", which weighs 47 pounds (21 kg) and is locked around George's neck. She suggests taking a few of the weights out of the bag, but George resists, aware of the illegality of such an action.
On television, a news reporter struggles to read the bulletin and hands it to the ballerina wearing the most grotesque mask and heaviest weights. She begins reading in her unacceptably natural, beautiful voice, then apologizes before switching to a more unpleasant voice programmed by the Handicapper General. She issues a Government Alert that Harrison Bergeron has escaped from the Government Re-educati0n Center. A full-body photograph of Harrison is shown, indicating that he is seven feet (2.1 m) tall and burdened by three hundred pounds (140 kg) of weighted handicaps.
George recognizes his son for a fleeting moment, but before having this thought, it is immediately eliminated by his radio transmitter. Harrison himself then storms the television studio in an attempt to overthrow the government. He calls himself the Emperor and rips off all of his handicaps, along with the handicaps of a ballerina, whom he proclaims his Empress. He orders the musicians to play, promising them nobility if they do their best. Unhappy with their initial attempt, Harrison takes control for a short while, and the music improves.
After listening and being moved by the music, Harrison and his Empress dance while flying to the ceiling, then pause in mid-air to kiss, another illegal act.
Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General, enters the studio and kills Harrison and the Empress with a ten-gauge double-barreled shotgun. The musicians put on their handicaps again after she threatens them at gunpoint, and the television goes dark. George, unaware of the televised incident, returns from the kitchen and asks Hazel why she was crying, to which she replies that something sad happened on television that she cannot remember. He comforts her and they return to their average lives.
So, in the world of Harrison Bergeron, everyone is equal in all respects. Equality abounds! The Government has made certain of that. Because, after all, the Government is all-knowing and exists to care for your every need.
Of course, this is all science fiction….or is it?

I never read Dr Seuss, but from covers seems like he uses non-human cartoon animal characters or similar non-realistic depictions. I guess I'll never know

:laugh8: I do find the question "what do you look for in a man" offensive. Just as offensive as asking a man "what do you look for in a woman" However, the interviewer was from the magazine Vanity Fair! What did she expect? She should have looked at the magazine before agreeing to the interview, though I suspect her agent set that interview up for her in order to get her more work.

On March 2, 2021, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced that And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street and five other books would no longer be published because they "portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong". In the book, there is an illustration of an Asian person who is wearing a conical hat, holding chopsticks, and eating from a bowl.

On March 2, 2021, Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced that If I Ran the Zoo and five other books would no longer be published because they "portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong". In the book, there is an illustration with two barefoot African men who are wearing grass skirts and whose hair is tied above their heads, as well as three stereotyped Chinese carrying a caged animal on their heads.

Maybe Beyond Zebra! is offensive because it has characters called a Jogg-oon, a Sneedle, a Zatz-it, a Wumbus, and a Yekko?

At first I thought Scrambled Eggs Super! is offensive because it's about his taking eggs from exotic birds. But now I think it may be the way "Eskimos" are depicted.

So far, I can't find out what people find offensive in McElligot's Pool. or The Cat's Quizzer.

I found them at two different sites:

The Cat's Quizzer
"In ("The Cat's Quizzer"), the Japanese character is referred to as 'a Japanese,' has a bright yellow face, and is standing on what appears to be Mt. Fuji," the authors wrote.

Why Is McElligot’s Pool On The List Of Seuss Books Being Taken Out Of Print?

Likely because of this image and accompanying text:

Metanoia
The Cat in the Hat is next but for now he is sorta reprieved, but not for long.

On the second day of March
I got out of my bed
And what did I see
That mixed up my head?

Thing One and Thing Two
Were locked up in chains.
My good pals, those sweet imps
Were now writhing in pain!

“Chins up and let’s roll,”
Said I to my boys.
“The Cat in the Hat
Is here to make noise!”

“No, no,” said one Thing.
“We can’t come to play.
The correctness police
Are to keep us at bay.”

“How’s that?” said I.
“Have you lost all your spark?
Let’s jump off of couches.
You sound like a narc!”

I saw some of the images that are being objected to and to be fair, they don't play well to a modern audience. But they are pulled out of context from a totally different era and are being judged against modern opinion. If pulling these books, or renaming a street or removing a statue actually fixes a problem then have at it, I'm just skeptical that it will.

Incidentally, some of the images are Chinese people. Imagine that - somebody finally remembered that Asians have had to endure tons of s**t too, historically speaking. I wonder how many lives were lost in the 19th century alone building railroads, etc.

It's a mental illness that has manifested via the W.W.W.

I wasn't suprised to hear of mallice and evil in all walks of life from the Internet, I swear it must be the ones who were shocked by another's plight that has crested this wave of concern and it fed something inside them with air and not much more. It seems being seen is more important than the doing which has a legal edge to it, sharpened daily by those who gorge on the fat of their own ego. It's keeping up with the Jones's on a virtual level.

For all we actually know this is a one time affair and I for one am going to make the most of it by not filling my life with pity and sorrow because I am me and not them.

This judging of an act committed during a time when sentiment was different is a great example of how the innocent become guilty for the sake of vanity. This is a side of our species that belongs in amongst all the others that reek of injustice that somehow are overlooked and becomes the default mode of acceptability . Hypothetically speaking a rapist from the neolithic time who was probably akin to a player by today's standards would get life and be thoroughly glad about it with being in relative luxury.

Time is a twisted bitch and then you kick it.
