trenching and piping in my generator feed was a bitch this summer but boy am I glad I did it. No fuss, no muss. Plug it in, fire it up and throw the interlock. Maybe a future home will have an automatic transfer switch and I won't even have to disturb my repose. I hope not to need it. Several bad storms earlier this year edited out many of the troublemaker trees.

Its 18 degrees here too and we have a winter storm warning starting tonight thru tomorrow night, ice storm approaching, I'm getting fuel and propane stocked for the likely power outage that will occur as a result...This is the time of the year my area gets hit with rough winter storms...

Well I'm prepared as I can be for this 4/10 of an inch of ice that's forecast to come calling soon...If we loose power from the grid I can keep the house heated without electricity and I have my solar batteries fully charged to run power to the house if necessary...Car is full of fuel too, and have plenty of food and water in the house...

This has not been a hard winter yet here in Iowa. We have had a lot of little snows dumping only a inch or two at a time. Biggest storm yet only dumped 7.5 inches. We get artic blast about every year here it just is we have had 0 or below temps now for the last two weeks with the lowest at -18.
Compare it to two years ago when we had 20 inches in october and 20 more in december and a number of 5 inchers later on with -20 cold blast that lasted maybe a few days.
Good news is we are starting to warm up ,they say by monday we may get above 32.We can always assume hard winters and hot summers here and take what we get.
Wont be long and spring will be here :)

Spring is on it's way in NYC! It's expected to reach 63° today.

[Hurray, this was my first time ever inserting a degree symbol while using a browser!]

Us too a little north of you! Lost the heavy coat then the jacket and now the sweatshirt.

How did you put the degree symbol in anyway?

In New Mexico we are getting 50 to 70 degrees during the day. Unusual for this time of year. We are getting wind like usual but the last year we have had more cloudy days than we usually have in 6 years. Less rain, more cloudy days, quite depressing. Today will be a bright sunny day, maybe it will get over 72.

I used the first option:

One can type Alt+248 or Alt+0176
Note: "0176" is different from "176"; Alt+176 produces the light shade (░) character.
Note: The NumLock must be set first; on full size keyboards, the numeric keypad must be used; on laptops without a numerical keypad, the virtual numeric keypad must be used (often requiring that the Fn key be held down as the numeric sequence is typed).

We've been getting so much rain lately, but it looks like the next five days after today we'll get a break with some sunshine before another week of rain commences...

I remember when I lived in Georgia for 2 years I was so tired of the rain, being a desert rat, rain is a gift until it doesn't stop. Then I lived in Virginia for a year and a half and was depressed for not seeing the sun once the whole time. In the 70's and 80's the paper mill pumped so much pollution into the air that there was a constant haze. And when it rained it rained for 4 days straight. I was amazed that people had clothes lines, because even on a "dry" day clothes did not dry on the line. When I lived in the Dallas area I remember over hearing several times people from the south or midwest commenting on the heat (105 in the shade) and someone else would say "yes, but it is a dry heat". I would laugh. 50 - 80 % humidity is not dry. There was the occasional 30% humidity for a day or two but for me that is high.

I like the humidity at a minimum 50%, but I've never lived in a dry climate...

When I was growing up average humidity was about 9 to 15 % depending on the year. Now it tends to be about 16%. If it gets up to 30% it is uncomfortable for me. We use swamp coolers here so if the humidity gets over 30% the coolers don't work. In the 50's a lot of people in the eastern humid climates who had asthma were told to move to the south west to get out of the humidity. The altitude is a lot higher too.
