Biden administration awards ICE $86M contract to secure hotel rooms for illegal families

The Biden administration has awarded ICE an $86.9 million contract for hotel rooms near the border to provide temporary shelter and processing services for families who have not been expelled from the United States but have been placed in immigration proceedings for their removal.

The contract, through Texas-based nonprofit Endeavors, provides 1,239 beds and "other necessary services." The families will receive a comprehensive health assessment, including COVID-19 testing. The announcement comes days after White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Thursday that the White House plan to provide 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine to Mexico.

Endeavors president and CEO Jon Allman confirmed the contract with DHS to provide "critical services to migrant families, which is a continuation of services we have delivered to the migrant population since 2012." Allman deferred questions regarding specific details about the contract to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Other services for migrants provided by Endeavors since include victim services, therapeutic regiments, educational resources and mental health care for migrant families navigating the U.S. immigration process. Endeavors also provides culturally appropirate, trauma-informed, child-centered case management, home study, and post release services for unaccompanied children and their sponsors.

According to data released by the Customs and Border Protection, the number of migrant family members caught crossing the southwest border more than doubled between January and February.

Around 7,000 migrant families were caught in January compared to nearly 19,000 migrant families caught in February. Meanwhile, unaccompanied children and single minors caught crossing the southwest border increased from 5,694 in January to 9,297 in February.

ICE acting director Tae Johnson emphasized in a statement that the border is "not open."

"The majority of individuals continue to be expelled under the Centers for Disease Control’s public health authority,” Johnson added.

Thanks, Joe! Thousands blow $1,400 stimulus checks in Vegas after Nevada lifts restrictions and the Strip roars back to life

The huge crowds that swarmed the Las Vegas Strip on its first weekend after reopening had one message: Thanks Joe! Thousands of people descended on Sin City over the weekend after Nevada governor Steve Sisolak relaxed his state's stay at home order to allow casinos, bars and restaurants to reopen at 50 per cent capacity. Many of the revelers told DailyMail.com they had taken the opportunity to blow their $1,400 stimulus checks on a weekend of partying – while hotels took advantage by hiking prices to pre-pandemic levels.

On Saturday night, The Strat was offering rooms for $179-a-night compared to $50 during the summer, while the Cosmopolitan had hiked prices to $610. Paris Las Vegas – which offered rooms last July for a bargain $55 – was selling beds for $284. At neighboring Bally's, stays shot up to $269 while drink prices were also hiked with domestic Dos Equis beers selling for $13 a bottle. Restaurant worker Ashley Stafford, 37, from Las Vegas said: 'People are totally out spending their stimulus checks – the crowds are huge and different than usual.

All I have to say about this is at least he is trying to fix something Trump did by forcing people to stay in Mexico while waiting for their paperwork to be processed. Maybe you would understand if you went down to the border and saw how they were living.

I watched the President give the expected partisan speech after the Boulder murders, and afterward he immediately walked off stage while reporters shouted questions like he couldn't take it anymore. I'm honestly worried about the guy. Even if he doesn't have dementia, there are a thousand other things that could be wrong with him.

Well one of his obvious mental problems is that he is a Democrat (Socialist).

I've lived in Mexico for a short while just across the border and traveled in Central America and traveled in most countries in South America, I know exactly how they live in the countries south of the US, there's good places and bad places, kind of like it is all over the world...There are many poor areas though throughout Central and South America however that's not the fault of the US...

I'm not talking about how Mexicans live, I am talking about how the refugees wanting asylum in the U.S. lived while waiting for their paperwork to be processed.

Just watched the president's first press conference. I thought he performed pretty good, no worse than anyone else his age would have done.

You're speaking of this as if they were being politically abused or something. This is a pure economic betterment situation - they want in so they can work, pay no taxes, and send nearly all the money back
home. I don't believe we are obligated to help them accomplish this desire. The few that are from
areas that might suggest an application for political asylum - such as Venezuela, are not in the majority.

Most are Hondurans, Mexicans, and a few that somebody paid for them to come by boat from Africa
and Syria. They did not float in from Syria or Africa to Panama - these are not boat people, except that they probably came on a cargo boat with their fares paid. This is a planned disruption of America, plain and simple. The ones paying for the trips should be charged with either terrorism or as traitors. But Soros is paying for a lot of them, and his is related to the Clintons, as I showed previously, and to the Dem. party in general. So nothing is being done.

You really don't know what you are talking about. You don't even live in the U.S. anymore, how long has it been and what southern state did you live in when you were here, probably someplace like Mississippi or Kentucky based on your opinions.

What I know or don't or what you know or don't, is debatable.

No I don't live in the US anymore.
I live where I can watch the caravan people proceed from Panama, through Costa Rica, where I live,
and I see the local news reports that two of the African members died right off the boat in Panama
from a very strange new version of Covid. I also see where we paid out our limited funds to feed
them when they passed through, and from time to time had to house them here for awhile until
Nicaragua let them pass. I also see their images in the areas that are clean and decent, with good
food and medical care, while they are here - and their clothing and belongings alone tell one that they
are not what they have been portrayed as - poor immigrants seeking political asylum in the US.
Oh, and by the way, if they need political asylum, why did they not seek it in Panama or here or
in Guatemala or Mexico? No, that's because they want a certain type of political asylum - the type
that comes with being accepted into the US.

I am a Floridian, third generation, and a poor son of the South, I will grant that. I also lived
the last five years in the US in San Antonio. Does something that I have done or expressed
lead you to equate that with racism or ignorance?

Look to yourself first, and ask what your own motives are.
I have not a racist bone in my body. But I am a Veteran, and a proud citizen, and I can't stand
to see the country being brought down by wealthy groups with an agenda.

And that agenda has nothing to do with asylum, but with reducing the wages of the legal
immigrants and citizens that are hard-working tax payers and are having their incomes eroded
by this unnecessary "act". And acting is what they are doing here.
Good day to you.

Pete Buttigieg says the Biden administration is considering taxing drivers by the MILE to fund their $3trillion climate-friendly infrastructure proposal

The White House is mulling a tax on vehicles' mileage to pay for a proposal to revamp the nation's infrastructure expected in the coming days, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said on Friday.

In an interview with CNBC, Buttigieg said a tax on miles driven 'shows a lot of promise,' as President Joe Biden's administration faces pressure to find ways to fund infrastructure improvements, a goal that has eluded the past two presidential administrations.

'The gas tax used to be the obvious way to do it. It's not anymore, so a so-called vehicle miles traveled tax or mileage tax, whatever you want to call, could be a way to do it.'
