How is The Coronavirus affecting your life?

Living in the south and being from the south are two different things, the latter knowing more of the traditions and religious aspects of southern folk than the former...I was born in the south and have lived in four different southern states with each area/place I've lived at has observed Good Friday as a traditional holiday at Easter...I think the federal government and banks observe the Monday after Easter as an observed holiday for Easter and close facilities...

...
The only time I ever got the monday after easter off along with good friday was when I worked for an oil company in Midland, TX. The software company I worked for in Plano always gave us good friday off until the corporation they bought started making the rules and we lost that holiday and christmas eve.

Earlier today I had to stop by the car dealer that I recently purchased my new used car to sign a paper that was incorrectly filled out and they have a sign on the main front entrance that says they are closed for Good Friday and Easter Monday...They are taking a 4 day weekend like many other local businesses here...

When I have worked for private companies in New Mexico we only got 6 days off for holidays. In Texas we get at least 7 and recently because of a merger we lost Christmas eve, but go two floating holidays, so we have 8. The company in the merger that had 2 floating holidays is in Florida. In 2o2o I took veterans day and Christmas eve as my floating holidays. One company in Texas that I worked for gave us our birth day as a floating holiday but if there was something going on at work we sometimes had to postpone our birthday off though we did get a day.

Well, a car dealership is not an essential service. If this pandemic is as dangerous as "they" are saying, life or death.... wtf are they doing closing to observe a 4 day holiday weekend?

The outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been declared a global emergency. As per experts, the coronavirus disease is considered the worst crisis since World War II and has led to stringent lockdowns by governments worldwide. The coronavirus infection is especially associated with a high mortality rate in individuals with heart diseases, diabetes, and cancers and the elderly.

  • The pathogen shortly dubbed as COVID-19 by the World Health Organization (WHO) may have possibly originated in China.
  • WHO states that around 80% of the COVID-19 cases are mild, with either cold or flu-like symptoms. These symptoms are mostly seen in the young population with no health conditions.
  • The possibility of multiorgan failure exists in elderly patients, especially those with pre-existing diseases such as diabetes or heart failure.
  • As per healthcare providers, almost all patients presented with fever, more than two-thirds had cough, and almost 50% had weakness or muscle ache. More than half complained of shortness of breath.
  • Many patients complain of “cytokine storm.” This is a condition in which the body releases huge amounts of toxic substances to kill the virus but ends up damaging itself.
  • The paramount reason for breathlessness is the fact that this new virus attacks the lung tissues causing severe pneumonia.
  • It can also attack the heart muscles and cause myocarditis (severe heart dysfunction).
  • We are yet to know if the COVID-19 infection can cause definite long-term sequelae in infected children, pregnant women, or elderly.
For most people, COVID-19 seems to be mild, and it takes a while, that is, 5 days to 2 weeks to cause symptoms.

  • Unfortunately, that’s exactly what makes the novel coronavirus more dangerous.
  • In the period that an infected person is asymptomatic or mildly ill, they could transmit the virus to dozens of other people through water droplets expelled by coughs or sneezes transferred on skin and other surfaces unknowingly.
  • Studies have shown that the latest mutant coronavirus strain found in the UK is more dangerous because of its potential to spread easily in the population.
  • Some mutant strains may not respond to the available vaccines as well.

How Dangerous Is the Coronavirus Disease?

They have already outlawed the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine here in Canada if you are over 55. I don't get it though because people over 55 get blood clots too... I think there is more to it and they just don't want to panic people who have already taken the shot.

Canada's vaccine advisory committee is recommending immediately suspending the use of the AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine in Canadians under 55 following reports of rare but potentially fatal blood clots in Europe that appear to be connected to the shot.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) updated its guidelines to provinces and territories against the use of the vaccine for younger Canadians on Monday over safety concerns.

People should not be in such a hurry to get this vaccination shot. Don't be a guinea pig, people. 80% of the population only get mild symptoms when they get infected with the virus.

My state has everything opened up and back to normal operating times and days, so all the businesses are back in regular schedules and taking the regular holidays off...We are still required to wear masks in public and social distance in the shops but we aren't in any sort of lockdown right now...

I wasn't too worried about the vaccine but now I look at it differently. They just relaxed all the restrictions regarding nursing homes here in NY state and we are dealing with not one but two situations right now that may very well mean we'll be in and out of the damned places and that shot might just be a requirement. I put my top people on it immediately; that means my wife has started looking for what's available where........

.... and I now have to pick and choose who makes what and which one I get? Yeah right, suddenly we're all experts. If my problem was a lack of network connectivity or I ran out of dial tone I could give you a professional opinion. Vaccines, not so much. Only shots I can recall ever having were tetanus.

Gotta say it again. I have has an interesting perch to watch all this from. Been working in retail throughout the whole thing in an area that got hit pretty hard and early. Didn't even have a mask for weeks and since then I've just been using cloth masks that tie behind your head like surgical masks. No way to maintain that 6' distance and compliance with the mask rules has been spotty to say the least.

So there I've been dealing with - literally - thousands upon thousands of people in public regularly at close range. Didn't get sick. I got it by dealing with an emergency situation - with masks - where we all had to grab hold of someone and manipulate them. Up close and personal.

I really don't mind the mask to tell the truth. It's God's Gift to retail workers. Little kids have traditionally been the source of all plague - they are a dirty lot those little bastards. Just to keep the boogers down a little they masks probably do have some value. Don't know about the rest of this buy am really sick of all of it.

Only 80% get mild symptoms, as opposed to how many getting the vaccine? Are you really sure you would rather have Covid than get the vaccine? It is objectively the case that you are orders of magnitude more likely to die or become severely ill if you get Covid. And if you wish to live your life like you did before the pandemic, then there is quite a high probability that you will get Covid. Plus there is 'long' Covid, that we don't know much about. You are becoming a guinea pig in an ongoing experiment with demonstrably worse outcomes if you are infected with this virus (which might be the result of Chinese gain of function research on bat coronaviruses, for all we know).

If I'm not vaccinated and have not had covid yet I'm not likely to be hired by many of the local companies here or at least diminishes my prospects of being hired...Its not a requirement yet to be vaccinated in order to work for various businesses but I see that on the horizon...In my opinion the Johnson & Johnson is the safest shot for me and that's the one I want to get...Also being vaccinated when applying for employment will greatly raise my prospects of being hired and I think also reflects that I make responsible sound decisions when those decisions affect others...I don't not wish to wait another 8 months before going back to work, financially its not feasible and its unsustainable...

I haven't been finding it that difficult. But then again, I never did get out much.

I do have trouble with the mask. It makes me over heat.

I already had it and I seriously thought I was going to die, I was that sick.

History is full of examples of us putting the cart before the horse. Remember thalidomide?

Were you tested and confirmed with Covid or did you suspect your illness was Covid without any testing?...

Without any testing.

There was no test.

That's very common, I've heard it from a number of people. Two I know of tested negative - and coincidentally contracted the actual virus some weeks later.

From my p.o.v what made this different was the effect on taste. Definitely weird and unique to this crud. Everything tasted like Scotch tape (not that I've eaten any to be sure)

My aunt in Georgia was very ill for a few weeks and told everyone she had Covid-19...My mother pressed her to ask if she was tested but she never went and got tested until a couple weeks later when she saw her doctor...Turned out she had the flu not Covid-19...

I haven't had a cold or "the flu" since I was a teenager. Even though I was around a lot of people who had a cold or flu in my household or work place, I never contracted it.

I don't get sick. Then suddenly, I'm so sick that I feel like I am going to die. So sick that I actually seek medical attention. I never seek medical attention. Ever!

One week after I recover the epidemic is globally announced. There was no test. People with symptoms were told to stay indoors. Even after tests were created, it was next to impossible to get one. Unless of course, you were rich.

Is that hard to accept that I may have caught it, guy's?

Believe whatever you like. I am going to have to tell you that I feel a little insulted. As though I was some kind of hypochondriac before this? Whatever, I have nothing to prove.

The same thing happened to my brother-in-law, but it was Thanksgiving time 2019. He lost his sense of taste and smell, had a cough that would not go away, a fever for a bit, then he got where he couldn't breathe and was admitted to the hospital (that was Jan 2, 2020) and no doctor could figure out what caused his illness. The even treated him for Valley Fever before the tests came back showing he didn't have valley fever. It is not hard for me to believe. I have known the virus was around even in the U.S. & UK long before we were told about it. There were even stories in December 2019 of "plague ships" describing cruise ships where everyone was sick and quarantined, but the U.S. citizens were allowed to fly back to their homes, along with healthy passengers. And for cruise ships to be that contagious in December means the virus came on board and some of those ships did NOT have anyone from China or who had been to China.

I'm not doubting the severity of the illness you had but without testing or a doctor exam you could have had a number of things that got you sick...Look at the illness I just went through for a month, I almost died from it and the doctors still don't know what caused it but they did rule out a number of things including covid...There are illnesses of unknown origin and that's what they labeled my illness as...

Not at all, just a common theme. I believe you.

I got chicken pox at 16 and that was an order of magnitude worse than covid, at least for me. That’s saying something because covid was no picnic. If that was going around I wouldn’t be working with all these people. No way
