Penn State faculty vote to end terms 'freshman,' 'sophomore' & others

Faculty at Pennsylvania State University have voted to replace traditional descriptors like "freshman" and "sophomore" with "1st year" or "2nd year," citing the former's "male-centric academic history."

The decision came as part of a Faculty Senate bill on the "Removal of Gendered & Binary Terms from Course and Program Descriptions."

The introduction states that "the University, as with most all academic institutions world-wide, has grown out of a typically male-centered world."

"As such, many terms in our lexicon carry a strong, male-centric, binary character to them. Terms such as ‘freshmen’ are decidedly male-specific, while terms such as ‘upperclassmen’ can be interpreted as both sexist and classist. Terms such as ‘junior’ and ‘senior’ are parallel to western male father-son naming conventions, and much of our written documentation uses he/she pronouns."

The bill, which came out of the Committee on Curricular Affairs, was one of several equity and diversity resolutions to pass at the Senate's April 27 meeting, according to Penn State News. The changes for gendered terms would apply to all written materials, including both internal and outward-facing documents.

Some may believe that they deserve their own thread but I beg to differ.

I'm talking about Ginger and the whinger aka Smegan Darkle and her lap dog Hairy Butsor. They make me puke my boots.

These two are a shining example of what is wrong in the world. Tucker from fox news made a very good point about the powerful fiegning weakness to silence those below them and this angers me greatly as it has a cowardice in its belly.

Hairy is an ugly pubic headed hand shaker and has a job ! Chief impact officer, pointless and also hilarious that divvy bollocks doesn't even feel the smoke being blown up his arse any longer. Utter embarrassment to the a nation and if I had the power I'd strip them of what they are using to swell their already huge wealth.

Remember these two telling us to fly less and then took a private jet straight after, yes it's this behaviour that infuriated and ignited the fire. Everything before was gravy and then the lies come from her who lives in Narnia with her own truths. The media here were pro Smeg and Hairy and I had no feeling either way but boy oh boy they are right up there and Piers Morgan has risen in my estimations by doubling down and seeking names as proof of this mistreatment they claim while living in a eleven million dollar mansion that has been given to them.

I would strip and flog them while in the stocks.

Please take them back, we don't want to hear their nonsense over here anymore, take them back please...

Democrats are getting increasingly nervous about 'woke' culture, analysts say

A New York Times opinion writer wondered in a new op-ed on Wednesday if the progressive cancel culture push will backfire on Democrats at the polls, and he isn't the only analyst asking the question. "Is Wokeness ‘Kryptonite for Democrats?’" Times contributor Thomas Edsall's headline asked.

Edsall quoted several surveys finding most people are against the more radical campaigns, such as efforts to defund the police and upend traditional gender norms. And yet, he said, Republicans can still point to the extreme minority that is pushing these ideas to argue that the Democratic Party is increasingly beholden to the radicals.

"Although centrist Democrats make up the majority of the party in the polls I cited above, the fact that a substantial minority of Democrats takes the more extreme stance allows Republicans to portray the Democratic Party as very much in thrall to its more ‘radical’ wing," Edsall wrote.

That belief is shared by Democratic strategist James Carville, who made perhaps an even bolder statement on how cancel culture will impact the party last month. "Wokeness is a problem and everyone knows it," he said. "It’s hard to talk to anybody today — and I talk to lots of people in the Democratic Party — who doesn’t say this. But they don’t want to say it out loud."

Andrew Guttmann, a New York City parent who has been speaking out against schools' push for critical race theory, said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom" on Wednesday that the cancel culture curriculum "is going to destroy our country" if it's not reversed. In a new piece for The Hill, he argued that the campaign for wokeness will only hurt the progressives spearheading it.

"There appears to be widespread belief that opposition to critical race theory is a view held solely by the political right," he wrote. "This perception is wrong. It is certainly true that the conservative media has almost exclusively embraced viewpoints unfavorable to critical race theory while the liberal-oriented media has been overwhelmingly approving. But our polarized media does not seem to accurately reflect the view of most Americans."

Washington Post reporter troubled by 'racist legacy' of some birds

According to The Washington Post, it's hunting season for cancel culture and its latest targets are "racist" birds. The Post ran an expansive report on Thursday, titled "The racist legacy many birds carry," focused on the "birding community," which apparently is having a difficult debate "about the names of species connected to enslavers, supremacists and grave robbers."

"Corina Newsome is a Black ornithologist, as rare as some of the birds she studies," Post environmental justice reporter Darryl Fears began his piece, noting she was hired to "break down barriers" at the Georgia Audubon nature preserve.

"But overcoming those barriers will be daunting. As with the wider field of conservation, racism and colonialism are in ornithology’s DNA, indelibly linked to its origin story. The challenge of how to move forward is roiling White ornithologists as they debate whether to change as many as 150 eponyms, names of birds that honor people with connections to slavery and supremacy."

Fears wrote that birds such as Bachman’s sparrow and Wallace’s fruit dove "bear the names of men who fought for the Southern cause, stole skulls from Indian graves for pseudoscientific studies that were later debunked, and bought and sold Black people."

Six different species of birds are named after British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace, who "boasted about caring for a Black baby after fatally shooting her mother during a trip to Africa" claiming he had "mistaken the woman for an animal," The Post reported. And three birds are named after James Sligo Jameson, another British naturalist who was "involved in a heinous act committed against a young girl he purchased as ‘a joke’" and "drew sketches of the child being stabbed and dismembered."

"Conservation has been driven by white patriarchy, this whole idea of calling something a wilderness after you move people off it or exterminate them and that you get to take ownership," Black ornithologist J. Drew Lanham told the newspaper.

"They are a reminder that this field that I work in was primarily developed and shaped by people not like me, who probably would have viewed me as lesser," Asian American ornithologist Olivia Wang similarly expressed. "They are also a reminder of how Western ornithology, and natural exploration in general, was often tied to a colonialist mind-set of conquering and exploiting and claiming ownership of things rather than learning from the humans who were already part of the ecosystem and had been living alongside these birds for lifetimes."

The report points out that the National Audubon Society itself is problematic since it is named after famed ornithologist John James Audubon, a slave owner who has been dead for 170 years.

"I am deeply troubled by the racist actions of John James Audubon and recognize how painful that legacy is for Black, Indigenous and people of color who are part of our staff, volunteers, donors and members," Elizabeth Gray of the National Audubon Society told The Post. "Although we have begun to address this part of our history, we have a lot more to unpack."

Newsome was troubled when she first wore a work shirt that featured Audubon's name, Fears writing that her "pain is real."

"I felt like I was wearing the name of an oppressor, the name of someone who enslaved my ancestors, Newsome said. "I believe they should both absolutely change the name. It feels wrong to enter African American communities … celebrating [Audubon’s] name. It’s a reality I am wrestling with constantly."

While efforts to rename such birds and the National Audubon Society had faced resistance, there was apparently a paradigm shift following the viral Central Park incident in 2020, when a White woman called 911 on a Black birdwatcher she dubiously accused of threatening her and her dog.

"Within days of the incident in Central Park last year, Newsome helped organize a very public declaration dubbed Black Birders Week — an event that quickly became a viral movement," Fears reported. "By happenstance, it took place amid nationwide demonstrations and calls for racial justice following George Floyd’s death under the knee of a Minneapolis police officer."

NYC shrink tells Yale audience she fantasizes about shooting White people in head

A New York City-based psychiatrist told an audience at the Yale School of Medicine in April that she had fantasies of "unloading a revolver into the head of any white person that got in my way."

Dr. Aruna Khilanani spewed the race-hating virtual remarks — in which she also said she’d walk away from the shooting "with a bounce in my step" and that white people "make my blood boil" and "are out of their minds and have been for a long time" — at the Ivy League institution’s Child Study Center on April 6.

Audio of the talk was posted on the substack online platform of former New York Times opinion writer and editor Bari Weiss on Friday, along with an interview of Khilanani conducted by writer and podcaster Katie Herzog.

A flyer promoting the talk and posted online by Weiss titled the lecture, "The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind" and included "learning objectives" such as "Set up white people’s absence of empathy towards black rage as a problem" and "Understand how white people are psychologically dependent on black rage."

A new PC concern pertains to bird names. It's not that the names in themselves are offensive, but that they are named after naturalists, or others, who sided with the Confederacy, or some other non-approved cause, ideology, or group.
Even the very name of the National Audubon Society is considered problematic because its namesake was a slave owner.
Washington Post reporter troubled by 'racist legacy' of some birds
The absurdity of this complaint is that virtually no one knows about the history of these names. A person has to painstakingly search for possible negative histories for the innumerable names of birds and other things. Also in their present use these names do not carry a connotation in relation to their origin.

On Having Whiteness

Abstract
Whiteness is a condition one first acquires and then one has—a malignant, parasitic-like condition to which “white” people have a particular susceptibility. The condition is foundational, generating characteristic ways of being in one’s body, in one’s mind, and in one’s world. Parasitic Whiteness renders its hosts’ appetites voracious, insatiable, and perverse. These deformed appetites particularly target nonwhite peoples. Once established, these appetites are nearly impossible to eliminate. Effective treatment consists of a combination of psychic and social-historical interventions. Such interventions can reasonably aim only to reshape Whiteness’s infiltrated appetites—to reduce their intensity, redistribute their aims, and occasionally turn those aims toward the work of reparation. When remembered and represented, the ravages wreaked by the chronic condition can function either as warning (“never again”) or as temptation (“great again”). Memorialization alone, therefore, is no guarantee against regression. There is not yet a permanent cure.

The left, to which these academic fraudsters belong, are intent on the destruction of western civilization. Nothing less will ever satisfy them, and they never rest in working toward this aim. Unlike them, their opponents do not belong to any particular ideology and are thus disorganized. They are able to out-manoeuvre conservative-leaning people, who are scarcely aware of what has happened until it is too late. In the Anglosphere of countries, they have seized control of academia, much of the press, state and private education, the police, the judiciary, the legal profession, and many other sectors of public and private endeavour. They hold all the meaningful levers of power, no matter which way elections might go.

New Jersey school board removes holiday names off school calendar to prevent 'hurt feelings'
Have a Merry "day off" and a Happy "day off"!

That’s the message from the school board of Randolph Township in Morris County, New Jersey, which unanimously voted Thursday to remove holiday names from their academic calendar following an uproar over renaming Columbus Day to Indigenous People’s Day, according to reports.

Now holidays like Thanksgiving and Memorial Day, as well as Jewish holy days like Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, will simply be listed as "day off."

FAA group urges move to gender-neutral terms, no more ‘airman’ or ‘cockpit’

A Federal Aviation Administration advisory group is urging the agency to replace words like "airman" and "cockpit" with gender-neutral terms like "aviator" and "flight deck."

The FAA’s Drone Advisory Committee put forth the recommendations in a report released Wednesday, part of a broader push for equity in the agency and aviation industry.

"Research shows that the utilization of gender-neutral language can lead to a more inclusive environment that draws more people to the industry and helps keep them there," the report states.

The committee offered several alternatives for terms commonly used in the industry, such as using "manufactured" or "fabricated" instead of "man-made."

It also noted that the term "cockpit" has at times been used by male crew members to "undermine femme co-workers" — and proposed that "flight deck" be used instead.

The group — made up of representatives from different sectors of the industry — was asked by the FAA in February for suggestions on switching to gender-neutral terms, according to The Washington Post.

University warns against using 'oppressive' language such as ‘picnic,' ‘killing it,’ 'rule of thumb,' and ‘walk-in’

A Massachusetts university compiled a growing list of words and phrases it considers “oppressive” and discouraged people from using them. The phrase “killing it,” for example, is language Brandeis University wants people to stop using.

"If someone is doing well, we don’t need to equate that to murder," Brandeis’s Prevention, Advocacy, and Resource Center wrote in a new "oppressive language list."

The list is divided into five categories: violent language, identity-based language, language that doesn’t say what we mean, culturally appropriative language, and person-first alternatives.

“Take a shot/stab at,” “trigger warning,” and “go off the reservation” are all on the “violent language” list because they “needlessly use imagery of hurting someone or something.”

People should also stop using “rule of thumb,” another phrase on the list, as the “expression allegedly comes from an old British law allowing men to beat their wives with sticks no wider than their thumb.”

The “identity-based language” list includes terms that are masculine-dominant, such as “you guys,” “policeman,” “congressman,” and "freshman.”

“Ladies and gentlemen,” a phrase often used to address a crowd of mixed genders, should also not be used as it is “within the gender binary, which doesn’t include everyone.”

The term “African American” should also stop being used. “Black” is listed as a “possible alternative” as “not all Black people are from Africa and/or America.”

Even a more generic term such as “people of color” is considered “oppressive,” as the center said: “If you are talking about a specific racial group, name the group you are talking about.”

Similarly, “transsexual” is a word people “outside of that group should not use.” Instead, the school recommends people simply refer to them as “trans and gender non-conforming folk.”

The word "picnic" also made the list because it is "often associated with lynchings of Black people in the United States, during which White spectators were said to have watched while eating, referring to them as picnics or other terms involving racial slurs against Black people."

The university also encourages people to stop using words such as “crazy," "insane," "wild," "lame," or "walk-in,” as in a walk-in appointment, because they are “ableist.” Brandeis’s PARC discouraged the use of euphemisms, vagueness, or any “language that doesn't say what we mean.” The “oppressive” list also discourages the use of “victim,” “survivor,” “addict,” “prostitute,” or “homeless person.”

"cockpit", "rule of thumb", "picnic"??? Are people crazy? or do they think everyone is stupid? If someone takes offense at the word "cockpit" there is something wrong with them, that word has never been used for anything but the area where the pilots sit has it? And Picnic???!!! how is that supposed to be offensive?

Federal Reserve tells employees to avoid 'biased terms' like 'Founding Fathers'

The guidance contains a list of "biased terms" to avoid, including "blacklist," "grandfathered," and "Founding Fathers." Employees are instructed to use terms like "denied," "legacy," and "Founders" instead.

The Fed also said the terms "whitelisted, "manpower," "manmade," and "singular generic pronouns" – such as "he," she," "his," and "hers" – should be replaced with more "bias-free" alternatives like "allowed," "artificial," and pronouns such as "they," "their" and "theirs."
