How is The Coronavirus affecting your life?

So, I expect everyone will be maskless whether they are vaccinated or not.

Those who don't want to wear masks haven't been wearing them already...I wouldn't be too negative about it, I went to town earlier and there were a lot of people still wearing masks, I assume the unvaccinated and those who want to take extra precautions...

My mother said she is still going to wear a mask indoors in public areas like the grocery store...I don't blame her as she is elderly and higher risk, although she is vaccinated with the Pfizer brand shot...She's been fully vaccinated for a couple months or longer, she doesn't have any health issues nor is she on any medications, she's fairly healthy for her age...

Had a conversation with a coworker yesterday, older guy in his 60s or early 70s. We noticed a number of people walking in maskless right past the three huge signs that tell you to wear one even if vaccinated. Absolutely nothing I can do about that.

In the course of the conversation he was trying to articulate his concerns over masks, vaccines and everything and it sort of devolved into a general complaint as to how filthy everything is and how he wants to continue with masks and gloves and sanitizer no matter what. Some I understood and some not so much.

For the ones that want to run around maskless and deny a the problem there are also those that go to the opposite end of the spectrum and swaddle themselves in bubble wrap and hide under the bed and see a coronavirus lurking under every twig or blade of grass or p.o.s hunk of consumer product - which they apparently can overcome their fears to go get. Tell you what, if I was that worried about a virus I wouldn't be wearing a deep sea diving helmet into a busy store on a weekend to go buy solar lights that look like rocks. Food, gas yes. Plastic rocks, probably not.

Looks like things are easing up de facto just not de jure. We'll probably get the shot this week. Big motivator was going back to Gold's Gym and if Big Andy will ever shut up and drop the state mandate the vaccine might be the ticket to being able to work out normally again. I work in a mask all day and it isn't easy when you are really huffing and sweating.

I've had both doses of the vaccine, but I still have to wear a mask because it is the law around here. No exceptions for the vaccinated. I think it is reasonable enough, because you cannot tell if someone who walks through the doors of a shop maskless is vaccinated.

There is also the little issue of the Indian variant of the virus outcompeting the Kent variant and new cases now beginning to rise again, despite a fairly high proportion of vaccinated people. The Kent variant was supposed to be about 40% more transmissible than the original strain.

I don't know how the offer to go maskless in exchange for getting vaccinated, as in parts of the US, is workable while still offering protection to the unvaccinated in public. But in this country, we do not have the same problems as the US with inducing people to get vaccinated. I think Britain has one of the lowest rates of vaccine hesitancy in the world. It is also not such a politicized issue.

I went to the barber the other week, for the first time since the beginning of 2020. I had my mask on, and the barber told me that he had been fully vaccinated. I told him I was due to get my second dose later that day. He eventually had to cut around my ears where my mask straps are. He told me that I could either hold the mask to my face without the straps, or else the regulations would permit me to have the mask off for fifteen minutes. Since he was OK with it, I took the mask off.

In my state, North Carolina has not dropped the mask mandate completely, masks still must be worn on public transportation, hospitals, child care, and nursing homes...Along with that any unvaccinated people must still wear a mask anywhere in public...Its an honour system in a way, and of course some unvaccinated are going to shed the mask, it is expected...

I went to town twice yesterday and entered in two different shops and there were plenty of people still wearing masks, and I did not wear a mask...At this point personally I am trusting the vaccine and along with that I live in a rural area, a low population of people, nothing like a big city...If I get covid so be it, the symptoms will be mild as evidence has shown for vaccinated people, very rare cases have been serious and those people likely had other pre-existing conditions...

Why get the vaccination but live as if we are not vaccinated, if we had to wait until more people are also vaccinated we may be waiting a long time given the resistance of vaccinations in the US...We may see a surge in new infections in the coming weeks but I think it will hit a plateau rather quickly with half the population vaccinated and more of those cases will likely be mild...I was all for mask wearing when we were vulnerable and without any vaccines, but things are different now and the vaccinated are no longer as vulnerable, if at all...I trusted the vaccine enough to get the shot, so now I'm trusting it to do what it intended to do...

I ran my errands yesterday and I did not see anyone maskless except in the parking lots. All the stores still have the required mask signs up so I think the governor's change in policy is being taken as a suggestion. We have more people per capita vaccinated in our state than most but there are still cases of the virus being found all over the state. I think people are nervous about the whole thing. I did have two friends come over Friday for dinner and we did not wear masks. It seemed pointless because we all 3 are compulsive hand wahsers and do wear masks in public. When my brother was getting chemo we always wore a mask to go visit him but now he is not wearing a mask except to go shopping. And he is doing much better. His last checkup was good and he has one more scan next month to verify all is good.

I don't really know what to think as far as this goes. I mean Alberta has a zero tolerance level with government getting involved in personal decisions. Our government knows and understand that unless it is life or death - butt out. They are saying that it is life or death and have gone so far as to double the dollar amount on fines for not following the rules regarding Covid 19 restrictions. They are saying that over 70% of Albertans are fully vaccinated and yet we are in our third wave of lock down procedures because our hospitals are overwhelmed and the infected have increased exponentially.

Somebody is lying to us. But hey, that's nothing new, is it?

Canada is averaging 4 to 5 thousand new cases per day for the whole country, far less than the US has per day...Seems your government is acting way more stricter than us...

In the end it may be that strict is the way to keep the population safe. We had a full weekend after the governor said it is ok for vaccinated to go without masks and people do not have to wear them outside unless there is a crowd and people are being safe, wearing their masks anyway. All of the stores still have the signs up and the employees are all wearing masks.

Fratty and out of touch.
I've chosen to focus on personal responsibility and not worry about the bigger picture. I've had the first Phizer vaccine and I will have the second one in another week or so. I know a lot of people who refuse to get vaccinated. Vaccines for polio and smallpox have probably saved thousands, even millions of lives. If businesses are going to continue to require that fully vaccinated people wear masks, it's not a big deal with me.

The US has a population about nine times that of Canada's. When adjusted for population, Canada appears to be coming out worse:

Moreover, Canada has had a significant late-March/early-April surge in cases, which is more than the increase that the US saw over the same period.

There's still a lot of people wearing masks in my area, when I was in the city this morning it was the same way...In my county about 54 percent of the residents have been vaccinated, not sure what the percentage is statewide...I haven't worn a mask anywhere I've gone in the last few days, no one has given me any issue about it and I noticed in Wal-Mart that some of the employees are maskless now too...Many stores around here are allowing their employees to go without a mask as long as they show verification of being vaccinated...I have pictures of my vaccination card on my phone as well as a screenshot image from the NC state health and human resources website that also shows proof of my vaccination...If anyone wants to see proof of my vaccination I have no problem showing it...

I don't think it can be true that 70% of Albertans are fully-vaccinated against Covid-19 presently. While I cannot find Alberta-specific numbers easily, I did find an up-to-date figure of 1.41 million Canadians being fully vaccinated. This amounts to 3.7% of the population of Canada. Even if all of those 1.41 million were in Alberta (which they certainly aren't), that would still only amount to 32% of the population of Alberta. The true figure for Alberta must be much lower.

Number of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19

About 45% of Canadians have received at least a single dose of a vaccine.

I don't think any country or region has hit 70 percent vaccination, except perhaps Israel but I'm not sure about that...China boasts high vaccination percentages but it's difficult to believe anything China says in regards to Covid...

I had to do that the day after I got my J&J vaccine. I did end up with a fever of 103, slept all day, all night and half the next day.

I hope he feels better soon. My theory is that the people who have sever symptoms from the vaccine probably have a weak immune system. I think that is why I got the symptoms. I have been isolated for a year and a half with very little interaction even with my daughter and grandson.
