Another thing to consider, many people had a shitty holiday season last year because of Covid and now anticipation of a better holiday this year is getting stymied by the supply shortages and inflation, both causing high prices and both getting worse by each passing day...
Way to go Brandon...
...
This is one of those roll-you-eyes-and-groan comments, but shouldn't the holidays mean a bit more than retail schlock?
If I hear '
but it's for the kids' one more time I'll scream. Yes - that increasingly enormous plastic pile of Halloween and Christmas decorations that are wooing and booing and hohohoing and blinking and all that crap are apparently what the holidays are all about.
All that garbage is made of plastic being imported from another country that doesn't give a shit about Santa or any of that. We pay lip service to climate change and cluck over electric cars, meanwhile they're running three shifts on coal burning plants to make all this nonsense - and don't think too much on exactly
who is making what - so it can pile up in ports because we have a 'supply chain crisis' . To us a crisis means not getting the preferred brand of toilet paper. A supply chain crisis in Brazil say, that's something else.
Growing up my brother and I heard an awful lot about the Depression and WW2 and rationing. I seriously doubt we have the national will or character to deal with anything like that anymore.
