I bet that insurance companies would tell you a car fire that damages a home or garage is more common than you think. It's a serious concern of mine and I am very cautious about it.

Teething problems with new technology. If I remember right - and may not - weren't early TV sets made with all sorts of natural resins and didn't a few of them in the UK actually start fires and maybe injure people?

Tesla Model S Plaid is now the world's fastest production vehicle: Car sets record breaking EIGHT SECOND quarter mile run at Maryland International Raceway

Tesla’s Model S Plaid is the first production car to complete a quarter mile in under nine seconds. The vehicle, driven by American race car driver Christine Dodworth, reached 125.10 miles per hour during the trip, finishing the run at the Maryland International Raceway in 8.944 seconds.

The Model S was a stock, meaning it came directly from the factory without any modifications, and only had the passenger seat removed to reduce weight. The record also places the Tesla as the second-fastest all-electric vehicle in the world, following the $2 million 2021 Rimac Nevera, which used four electric motors to run an 8.6- and 8.7-quarter mile earlier this year.

Back during the Great Depression, my granddad got an enviable job as the local school custodian because he was a licensed boiler operator. This was way up north, and the school had steam heat. Boiler explosions were not unheard of, and the license had been required for some time by then. The job came with a house next to the school. Grandpa tied one end of a rope to the porch railing, and the other end to a railing at the school so he wouldn't get lost in a blizzard in the middle of the night, since he had to make frequent trips to check the boiler. This was about 80 years ago.

"The kinds of things that we do about this is, focus less on thinking about free speech, but thinking about how the times have changed."

Faster than this thing .... but who cares? Go pinstripe your toaster

I've probably posted this before, but a 9 second car is generally something not many people would want to drive anywhere. They are ornery, very thirsty, expensive to maintain and a shitload of fun. I saw that video of Jay Leno setting a record that lasted fifteen minutes or something. Very cool, especially considering Jay's age. He has some reflexes left, for sure. But yeah, my buddy's pinstriped garage beer fridge has more character than that Apple Car.

The missus bought a newer Volt recently. The old one was a '15, last of the first gen. This one is a '19, as new as they will ever get. It's much more fun to drive. Many of the things I grumbled about for five years when driving the old one have been fixed. Coolest thing is the traction control is apparently limited in its function. I had been in the habit of flooring the old one when leaving stoplights sometimes. It never slipped a wheel, ever. I tried. So I did it with the new one just about the first time I drove it. He he! Scratched the tires a bit as it took off like my old GTO.

Apparently, the Volt weighs more than that old Goat! It had a 400 with a 4 speed and got about 17 mpg cruising at 60-65. The Volt has a 92 cubic inch engine, with something crazy like 12.5:1 compression. I guess if you have a 50 hp starter, it's no big deal, but apparently it is careful to stop the engine in a certain camshaft position to aid starting. It gets about 40 mpg just on gas, or about the same as our old Civic that weighed half a ton less. Interesting car. Not contemplating pinstripes though.

Elon Musk officially owns no homes: Tesla CEO sells off lavish Silicon Valley estate for $30 million - $7.5M lower than its asking price - and fulfils his pledge made last year to 'own no home'

Elon Musk sold his Silicon Valley estate for $30 million, the last of his seven California homes, fulfilling the pledge he made last year to 'own no home.' The world's second richest man sold his 16,000-square-foot estate for $7.5 million less than the original $37.5 million asking price that was first listed in June. Musk, who has a net worth of $151 billion, had previously shared that the 47-acre property south of San Francisco was his 'last remaining house.' It features 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a music room, grand ballroom, and a cocktail room with retractable library shelves.

I'd be willing to bet that insurance companies and law enforcement will take a different view of 8 second production cars. Maybe mandate a certain software load for civilian use that acts as a governor.

The obvious answer is that if you don't agree with Twitter ideology, you don't use Twitter. What do these people think that they will be missing if they stop using it? It is a bizarre compulsion that some people have to use the service. It has brought society no benefits, and has poisoned public discourse, and cost many people their jobs needlessly. For the love of all that is good, just please don't use it.

It's a privately owned website. Some people seem to think rights only work in one direction, and don't come with responsibilities. There is a vast amount of confusion about free speech. Some windbags make tons of money fomenting ignorant shouting about it. It's demented.

Elon Musk Calls Elizabeth Warren 'Senator Karen' After She Dubs Him 'Time's Tax Freeloader

Billionaire Tesla founder Elon Musk lashed out at Senator Elizabeth Warren on Twitter, calling the Massachusetts Democrat a "Karen" after she accused him of "freeloading" by not paying his fair share of taxes.

Musk engaged in the Twitter spat with Warren on Tuesday, one day after the senator shared an article about the billionaire being named Time magazine's person of the year. Warren tweeted that the "rigged tax code" should be changed "so The Person of the Year will actually pay taxes and stop freeloading off everyone else."

The world's richest person responded to the senator by tweeting a 2019 Fox News opinion article calling the then-presidential candidate a "fraud" while maintaining that she had spread "lies about being Native American" in order "to benefit from affirmative action or other preferential programs." Musk captioned his link with the comment, "Stop projecting!"

"You remind me of when I was a kid and my friend's angry Mom would just randomly yell at everyone for no reason," Musk added in a tweet minutes later. "Please don't call the manager on me, Senator Karen."

Grimes has something to say about ex-boyfriend Elon Musk's Time Person of the Year cover.

Not long after the magazine named Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as the wealthiest man in the world, its 2021 Person of the Year, Grimes tweeted a detail about the entrepreneur's look in the cover photo.

The close-up portrait of Musk, 50, features his slicked-back 'do and shaved sides, which Grimes, 33, says he trimmed himself.

"And he cut his own hair for this pic too - icon ," tweeted the musician, who shares 18-month-old son X Æ A-Xii with the entrepreneur. (Musk has yet to confirm whether or not he chopped his hair himself.)

Earlier this month, Grimes appeared to reference Musk through subtle song lyrics about him in her new single, "Player of Games."

In the electric heartbreak anthem, the musician sings about being in love with a "player of games," and makes space-related references. Meanwhile, the Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder is known to be an avid gamer.

Grimes (L) and Elon Musk

"I'm in love with the greatest gamer/ But he'll always love the game / More than he loves me," she sings. "Sail away / To the cold expanse of space / Even love / Couldn't keep you in your place."

Musk and Grimes split in September after three years together. At the time, the SpaceX founder told the New York Post's Page Six they were "semi-separated."

"We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms," he said. "It's mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA."

He added, "She's staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room."

Musk and the musician were first romantically linked in May 2018, when they made their public debut at the Met Gala following his split from Amber Heard. In May 2020, they welcomed their son X Æ A-Xii.
