'Oh my God, she's out!': Mother gave birth in Tesla after husband put the car on AUTOPILOT to help deliver the little girl

Pennsylvania couple Yiran and Keating Sherry (pictured left) recounted their three month-old daughter Maeve Lily's (right) dramatic birth in the front seat of the couple's Tesla. Her journey into the world started on September 9 when Yiran had contractions in the middle of the night, the following morning her water broke. When they pulled up to the hospital Yiran whispered, 'Oh, my God, Keating. She's out.' Luckily a pediatrician just happened to be outside the hospital who called on nurses to rush to the Telsa to cut the umbilical over the car's front seat.

Man blows up Tesla after mechanics charge $23K for new battery

Man explodes Tesla after mechanics charge $23K for a new battery
By Hannah Sparks December 24, 2021 5:07pm Updated

The cost of a new Tesla Model S is about $95,000, but the experience of blowing one up is priceless.

Finnish man Tuomas Katainen bought his Tesla in 2013, and it rode like a dream — for about the first 930 miles. “It was an excellent car,” he said. “Then the error codes hit.”

After a month in the shop, mechanics said he’d need the “whole battery cell” replaced, at a price of 20,000 euros, or about $23,900.

“So I told them I’m coming to pick up the Tesla,” he said in a video, produced by Finnish YouTuber Pommijätkät. “Now I’m going to explode the whole car away.”

More than 2.8 million have watched the eight-and-a-half-minute episode of the reality stunt web show, which received a call from Katainen for help blowing up his out-of-warranty Tesla.

A Finnish man bought his Tesla in 2013, but when mechanics told him it would cost $23,000 to fix the battery, he decided to blow it up instead.
YouTube
Crews set up the explosion at a former quarry in snowy Jaala, in southern Finland, where they flanked about 66 pounds (33 kilograms) of dynamite to the self-driving sedan.

The event wouldn’t be complete of course without Elon Musk in attendance — which, naturally, he was not. But the crew did go so far as to hire a helicopter to fly over the blast site and drop a crash test dummy with a portrait of Elon Musk glued to its face. It was also wearing a jumpsuit and a helmet, for realism.

The vehicle rode well for about 930 miles before the battery gave out, according to former Tesla owner Katainen.
YouTube
Tesla has been fighting off a lot of negative feedback as of late. The carmaker is currently dealing with some heat from the government after the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a probe into their built-in gaming console earlier this week. Tesla quickly responded and agreed to disable the “Passenger Play” feature from 580,000 vehicles from their 2017 lines.

Last month, Tesla also recalled 11,700 cars over a faulty self-driving system, following again a NHTSA investigation behind the cause of 11 crashes since 2018 of drivers using “autopilot.”

Experts strapped 30kg of dynamite to only one side of the car, so they could plan for the direction of the shrapnel.

Evidently, a $23,000 bill to replace a battery is par for Tesla’s course, while an Inverse investigation in October revealed a discrepancy between Tesla’s top dummy and the itemized receipts of disgruntled customers. Not only are their batteries less powerful and enduring as the company claims, but Inverse also found reports of Musk in 2019 stating that a total battery replacement should cost between $5,000 and $7,000. But FindMyElectric.com found that all parts and labor told, the final bill for their Model S Premium battery can put a customer out up to $20,000.

Demolishing the whole thing, however, was free. So when asked what’s more valuable — a working Tesla or the thrill of blowing it up, Katainen had to say: “Maybe more explosion.”

Elon Musk offered a 19-year-old $5,000 to take down a Twitter account that tracks his private jet

Elon Musk messaged the owner of a Twitter account that tracks his private jet, with an offer of $5,000 if he took the account offline, the tech news site Protocol reported Wednesday.

The "Elon Musk's Jet" account shows the movements of Musk's private jet, using bots that monitor publicly available air-traffic data.

According to Protocol, the owner of the account, the 19-year-old Jack Sweeney, received a message in fall last year at 12:13 a.m. from Musk. It said: "Can you take this down? It is a security risk."

Sweeney replied: "Yes I can but it'll cost you a Model 3 only joking unless?" Protocol reported.

Musk said: "I don't love the idea of being shot by a nutcase," according to Protocol.

Musk offered Sweeney $5,000 after a few messages back and forth, Protocol reported.

"Any chance to up that to $50k? It would be great support in college and would possibly allow me to get a car maybe even a Model 3," Sweeney responded, per Protocol.

According to the outlet, Musk said he would think about it but has not been back in touch.

When Sweeney told Musk where he was aggregating the data from, Musk responded: "Air traffic control is so primitive," Protocol reported.

It's not clear whether Protocol viewed the Twitter messages.

Musk tweeted earlier this month that social-media accounts tracking his movements are "becoming a security issue."

Sweeney did not immediately respond when contacted out of hours for comment. Insider was not immediately able to contact Elon Musk.

Elon Musk space rocket on collision course with the Moon

Elon Musk space rocket on collision course with the Moon
Astronomer Jonathan McDowell says the effects of the crash will be minor and it is possible similar impacts have taken place unnoticed.

Published On 27 Jan 202227 Jan 2022
A chunk of a SpaceX rocket that blasted off seven years ago and was abandoned in space after completing its mission will crash into the Moon in March, experts say.

The rocket was deployed in 2015 to put into orbit a NASA satellite called the Deep Space Climate Observatory

Since then, the second stage of the rocket, or booster, has been floating in what mathematicians call a chaotic orbit, astronomer Bill Gray said on Wednesday.

It was Gray who calculated the space junk’s new collision course with the Moon. The booster passed quite close to the Moon in January in a rendezvous that altered its orbit, said Gray.

He is behind Project Pluto, software that allows scientists to calculate the trajectory of asteroids and other objects in space and is used in NASA-financed space observation programs.

A week after the rocket stage whizzed close to the Moon, Gray observed it again and concluded it would crash into the Moon’s dark side on March 4 at more than 9,000km/h (5,500 mph).

Gray appealed to the amateur astronomer community to join him in observing the booster, and his conclusion was confirmed.

The exact time and location of impact may change slightly from his forecast but there is widespread agreement that there will be a collision on the Moon that day.

“I’ve been tracking junk of this sort for about 15 years. And this is the first unintentional lunar impact that we’ve had,” Gray said.

‘Time to start regulating’
Astronomer Jonathan McDowell said, however, the effects of the collision will be minor, adding it is possible similar impacts have taken place unnoticed.

“There are at least 50 objects that were left in deep Earth orbit in the 60s, 70s and 80s that were just abandoned there. We didn’t track them,” he said.

“Now we’re picking up a couple of them … but a lot of them we’re not finding and so they’re not there any more,” he added. “Probably at least a few of them hit the moon accidentally and we just didn’t notice.”

The impact of the chunk of SpaceX rocket, which weighs four tonnes, on the Moon will not be visible from Earth in realtime.

But it will leave a crater that scientists will be able to observe with spacecraft and satellites such as NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter or India’s Chandrayaan-2, and thus learn more about the geology of the Moon.

Spacecraft have been intentionally crashed into the Moon before for scientific purposes, such as during the Apollo missions to test seismometers.

In 2009, NASA sent a rocket stage hurling into the Moon near its south pole to look for water.

But most rockets do not go so far from Earth. SpaceX brings its rocket boosters back through the Earth’s atmosphere so they disintegrate over the ocean. The first stage is recovered and reused.

Gray said there could be more unintentional crashes into the Moon in the future as the US and Chinese space programmes, in particular, leave more junk in orbit.

The US, together with international partners, is already planning a space station to orbit the Moon.

McDowell noted these events “start to be problematic when there’s a lot more traffic”.

“It’s actually no one’s job to keep track of the junk that we leave out in deep earth orbit,” he said. “I think now’s the time to start regulating it.”

SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Elon Musk’s company is currently developing a lunar lander that should allow NASA to send astronauts back to the Moon by 2025 at the earliest.

You have to admit, without reading the article the title 'Elon Musk space rocket on collision course with the Moon' alone is catchy. Imagine beaming back in time 20 years and leaving that one the coffee table.

Jack Sweeney, teen who tracks Elon Musk's jet, gets job offer

Jack Sweeney, teen who tracks Elon Musk’s private plane, gets job offer from NetJets rival
By Thomas Barrabi
February 1, 2022

Jack Sweeney, the 19-year-old college kid who ran afoul of Elon Musk by running a Twitter account that tracks his private jet, has already parlayed the viral exchange into a career opportunity.

The tech-savvy teenager told The Post that Stratos Jet Charters, an Orlando-based private charter flight firm, was impressed enough to offer him a job on its tech development team. Stratos competes in the sector with Wheels Up, NetJets and other private jet services.

“It was pretty cool. They’re UCF alumni, so it’s pretty interesting,” Sweeney told the Post. “There’s just a lot of UCF that think it’s cool.”

Sweeney told The Post he is “not sure” yet if he will accept the offer, given his other obligations. The college student noted he already works as a part-time app developer for UberJets, another private charter firm.

Stratos’s CEO Joel Thomas, a UCF alum, confirmed he has been in touch with Sweeney about working for the company.

Thomas told The Post the college student “showed his creativity” by creating the jet-tracking accounts. Sweeney’s knowledge of real-time flight tracking data could help Stratos make “more efficient inquiries of suppliers and predict flight times more accurately,” he added.

“Understanding that he is currently enrolled at UCF, Stratos is happy to work with him on a project basis, part-time or internship to help him further his educational goals,” Thomas told the Post.

Musk offered $5,000 for Sweeney, a student at the University of Central Florida, to shut down @ElonJet, which uses publicly available data to keep tabs on the Tesla founder.

Sweeney rejected that deal, and Musk didn’t respond to his counter request for $50,000 and an internship. Musk previously decried similar accounts as a “security issue.”

Aside from the @ElonJet account, Sweeney operates accounts that track the flights of jets owned several other billionaires and well-known figures, including Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates. However, he has no plans to make similar requests of those billionaires.

“I’m not going to bother them,” Sweeney said.

Musk reached out to Sweeney via direct message last November, asking the teenager to shut down the tracking bot because it posed a “security risk.” The pair exchanged messages and the Tesla founder eventually offered him $5,000 to delete the account.

“I don’t love the idea of being shot by a nutcase,” Musk said.

Sweeney counteroffered, requesting $50,000 and an internship to delete the account. Musk said he’d consider the offer, ultimately decided it didn’t “feel right” to pay to shut down the account and stopped responding.

The @ElonJet account has gained more than 200,000 followers since The Post and other outlets reported on his direct message conversation with Musk.

However, the public exposure appears to have rankled Musk, who has blocked Sweeney’s personal Twitter account. Sweeney expressed regret about that development.

“He didn’t have to block me,” Sweeney said. “I can get why he’s mad. Some of them, they don’t like the news, so if it’s all over the news, you can totally see why he would be like that.”

Sweeney said Musk has taken some steps to make it more difficult to track his private jet since the account went viral, but the college student said he’s still able to do it.

“It’s a little more complicated, but it’s not crazy hard,” he added.

Tesla's self-driving technology is slammed as 'flawed' by experts after car owners' videos showed vehicles steering into oncoming truck, failing to stop for pedestrians and hitting roadside obstacles

Screenshot_20220210-193701.jpg

In footage recorded earlier this month by YouTube user AI Addict, a Tesla Model 3 sporting the technology - which is still being tested but is available to selected Tesla owners in its incomplete 'beta' stage - can be seen smashing into a bike lane bollard at 11 mph while driving through the streets of San Jose. During the same drive, the feature attempts to drive down some light-rail tracks, mistaking it for a road, while another video posted by the YouTuber in December shows it failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. In another video recorded late last year by fellow self-driving 'beta' tester and YouTuber Dirty Tesla, another Tesla vehicle using the technology fails to detect on oncoming truck as it prepares to make a turn, forcing the driver to intervene and put his hands on the wheel to avoid a collision. Tesla CEO Elon Musk claimed only last month that the FSD Beta system had never had an accident, but the new footage offers proof that this is no longer the case. The jarring videos highlight some of the flaws with the still largely untested software, experts say, highlighting the unpolished feature's failure to detect common road obstacles and pedestrians.

Elon Musk says Starlink is active in Ukraine amid internet disruptions

Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov appealed to Musk on Saturday morning, saying that while his "rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people!"
Just 10 hours later, Musk responded that Starlink is now active in the eastern European country and more terminals are on the way.
Starlink is a network of about 2,000 satellites in low earth orbit that provide high-speed broadband internet by connecting with user terminals around the globe.
Because it isn't limited by traditional internet infrastructure, Starlink can be deployed quickly in hard-to-reach areas and disaster situations.
