Historic moment King Charles III is declared sovereign and vows to follow his mother's example of 'lifelong love and selfless service', watched by Queen Consort Camilla and Prince William - before cannon fire and 'three cheers for the King!'

King Charles III has made a personal declaration on the death of his beloved mother Queen Elizabeth II today and vowed to uphold 'constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands, and of the Commonwealth realms and territories throughout the world' - as Britain's new monarch was formally announced at St James's Palace in London today. Charles automatically became Sovereign on the death of his mother aged 96 at Balmoral Castle on Thursday afternoon, but the Accession Council - an ancient body of advisers that dates back as far as the time of the Norman Conquest - has formally announced his role as Head of State today. Paying tribute to the Queen at the throne room of St James's before the assembled Accession Council shortly after 10.20am, the King said: 'Her reign was unequalled in its duration, its dedication and its devotion. Even as we grieve, we give thanks for this most faithful life.' Broadcast cameras were allowed into the historic event giving the world a first glimpse of an ancient ceremony dating back centuries - and one of the first changes to convention instigated by the new King.

Although William hasn't arrived yet, he is en route after recently arriving in Aberdeen. Two men in body armor carrying HK MP5s have just replaced a couple of regular-looking police officers guarding the front entrance. Those young men clearly take their work as security guards seriously.

That's not the vibe I'm getting...

Anyone else see a pattern here?

No disrespect intended - really - but I find it odd to open news apps that want to give me live updates on the Queen's death. Eh?
Reminds me of the SNL Weekend Updates that tell us that the Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

People who complain about the extent of media coverage, like Howard Stern fail to realize this is real history we're witnessing. I suppose he needed to get out an update to remind us he's not dead for those that forgot about him entirely.

Britain's fattest man, 32, who weighs 47 stone complains that his human rights are being infringed by new calorie-controlled diet as doctors battle to save his life

Jason Holton, 32, from Camberley, Surrey, (pictured) has been housebound for seven years and recently came moments from death as he suffered a series of mini strokes and a suspected blood clot on June 4 this year. It took two hours to get 32-year-old Jason to Frimley Park Hospital in a specially-designed ambulance after his huge frame put immense pressure on his internal organs. His diet consisted of JustEat takeaways including doner meat, chips and chicken chow mein washed down with 1.5 litres of orange juice and five cans of diet coke - costing around £30 a day - totalling over £10,000 a year. In October 2021 Jason had to be hoisted out of his third-floor flat by a crane (inset) and by 30 fireman in a seven-hour operation, which involved structural engineers reinforcing the floor of their two-bed maisonette in case he fell. Now, the NHS is paying for Jason to be taken care of at a private nursing home outside of London, where staff have put him on a calorie-restricted diet. Pictured right with his mother Leisa.

Wow, that's about 650 pounds or 295 kg. He needs more than a restrictive diet, his head is messed up. I hope he gets counselling with those meals. Although it may be difficult for him to accept because he did not choose to get help. He is being forced.

Please give it a chance, Jason, you won't regret it. I promise.

I would estimate about 30 percent will do something productive with the money to improve their lives...

Denver is set to provide 140 homeless people with $12,000 in no-strings-attached cash to see if it lifts them out of destitution

Denver has allocated $2million from the American Rescue Plan Act to fund the program, which will be run by the Denver Basic Income Project. The total program, which will cost around $9million, is seeking to help around 820 people, but the $2million provided by the city will fund around 140 people. The program will be divided into three groups with 260 receiving $6,500 upfront and $500 a month for 12 months. Another 260 will get $1,000 a month for 12 months and 300 will get $50 stipends to complete surveys to help see how the program is working. The participants will be chosen at random and will largely derive from women, transgender, and non-binary individuals.

This is ridiculous. There is not enough to cover living expenses each month let alone put money aside for such things as damage deposits, or utility hook up fees, or any furniture, or even a set of pots and pans,or dishes to eat with. Then there's blankets, sheets, shower curtain, drapes, food, transportation, clothing, grooming supplies, towels, soaps, shampoo, deodorant, shoes, coat, boots....

Denver has not got a fucking clue if they think that money is going to help anyone. They should be embarrassed for being that out of touch with the homeless problem.
