Astronomers send message to planets 12 light years away

Exoplanet Exploration: Planets Beyond our Solar System: GJ 273 b

I actually looked up where the signal was sent and am a lot less worried.

The "super earth" specifications of GJ 273 b (where they sent the signal)
1. 33+ times the size of earth.
2. Gas giant
3. Orbital distance 0.09 AU.
4. Period 18.6 days.
5. Eccentricity 0.1 (earth's is 0.005).

CMEs will have about 100 times the effect (R2 law).

Occasionally the planet will come close to going through the stars envelope.

Earth is not a 33+ times larger gas giant.

Again, unless you have visited hell recently and still have your wings this planet isn't for you.

Scientists seem to be disturbing ignorant about what "habitable" means.

Habitable eh? “You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means”

Fratty and out of touch.
SHOULD WE BE WARY OF ALIENS?

If there are any intelligent alien life forms out there, Stephen Hawking thinks we're playing a dangerous game by trying to contact them.

You guys have been watching too many sci fi movies. I think any aliens capable of coming here and destroying/enslaving us would have done so by now if they so desired.

And as for Stephen Hawking -- c'mon where's that unified field theory you guys have been looking for? I think he needs to buckle down on his work and spend a little less time playing with alien theories! :p

I think they'd be more likely to come here and save the planet like in "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

That's assuming they already knew our location, perhaps an aggressive species didn't know about us until we messaged them, leading them right back here...

Don't forget about the assumption that anyone is ever even going to hear the message in the first place.

True, there's little chance anyone would hear our message especially if they are quite advanced they may not even be monitoring the frequency we are broadcasting...

At Peace.
They send messages out to be lost in space, but they cant acknowledge that the guy or gal standing in line at the coffee shop is perhaps visiting us from another planet? Hahaha

Fading day by day.
I am with Stephen Hawking on this one. Ever walked on an ants nest, killed a spider?
First contact, be careful what we wish for.

That and the signals would likely be degraded into static by the time is reaches them.
