Programming and Techy Stuff

Dundee

Fading day by day.
Hello all,
I am far from a Guru in anything, except maybe Dedicating each glass Jack Daniels to Lemmy (RIP Mate) (aka GOD)

But I do have a reasonable history in Techy stuff (my Job is, 2nd level support, the stuff the help desk cant fix, plus project work and diabolical drama containment :) ) in other words when the IT boss says the sky is falling I am part of one of the teams that has to find out why.
And programming, well thats my passion, and I LOVVVVEEEEEEE AI. The last frontier :)

I am pretty Good at C#, C, C++, can fudge out some VB in a pinch when needed, Java sucks but is really just OO C..sort of, Use a fair bit of power shell (mostly server stuff) at work, so although I am not a guru, I can also usually fudge my way through that too. Have played in 8086 and 6809 ASM, even done some crappy COBOL. I dunno, forgetting now...done some Pascal back in the day, 4tran...probably more, cant remember, too old. now.
Can plod through Linux (my son is an absolute GURU) and at the tender age of 55 I can remember installing win sock and Netscape on windoes 3.1 to see my first ever web page. Prior to that the internet was just Telnet and ftp, anyone remember ftp.funet.fi ???
Man what a place. I was Fizban on there MUD by the way if you were there :) lol, Now there is some nostalgia for you old buggers.

Also I suspect with the caliber of folks we have here there is a bucket load of help to be had if needed from the rest of the crew.
So....
This thread is dedicated to techy stuff,

My Motto is the only dumb question is the one you didn't ask :)

So if your computer is arguing with you, if your writing a game and cant work out why your space invader changes color when it changes direction, Ask it here, I will give it my best shot, no promises, but I love that stuff. If I don't know whats causing your problem, I promise to hunt until I do.
Cheers
Me

I really like Linux, I use Slackware Linux, Salix Linux and a Slackware based server OS on my various computers and servers in my workshop building behind my house and in my house along with a couple computers on Win7 and Win10...

Yay I worked out why my Google Home was having a hemorrhage.
I have a plasma Ball close to it. Maybe 30 cm. Soon as I turn it on, Google home goes crazy. Changes volume up and down randomly, sometimes ignores voice commands, stops playing music. Soon as Mr Plasma lamps off, Google Home is happy again.
Interesting.
