On how natural selection is at odds with the Buddhist notion that pleasure is fleeting

This was in the Buddha's first sermon after his enlightenment is that a big source of our suffering is that we crave things, we want things, but then the gratification tends not to last. So we find ourselves in a state of almost perennial dissatisfaction. And, in fact, people may have heard that Buddhism says that life is full of suffering, and it's true that suffering is the translation of the word dukkha. It's a respectable translation, but a lot of people think that that word would be just as well translated as "unsatisfactoryness."

mindfulness meditation is to not run away from feelings that you normally run away from. By "run away from" I mean you're averse to them. Like, if you feel anxiety or physical pain, you want it to go away. You want to do something that makes it go away. And the idea of mindfulness meditation is that you actually sit there — kind of observe the feeling, experience the feeling — and ironically, that can give you a kind of critical distance from it, a kind of detachment from it. So not running away from the pain or the emotional distress, or whatever, can, through meditative practice, disempower the pain or the distress.

On how natural selection is at odds with the Buddhist notion that pleasure is fleeting..........................
Why is it at odds?
I am no expert but have read a lot about Buddhism,. It is about all that makes sense to me. But I can't think why it is at odds. In fact the Dalai Llama embraces science.
Why do you say natural Selection is at odds? i see no contradiction.

I prefer a 'living' meditation, it's more complete and functions as a whole whilst steadily engaged in individual affairs...When in a sitting style mediation such as your reference, I use this opportunity to travel...

Like you zoom out or inwards while doing everyday normal stuff ?

Letting the reptile brain do the physical work .... freeing you up to meditate

Or

Observing oneself is key to first discovering oneself then understanding oneself...One must collect data, information through objective observation...

A living mediation is not something that can be easily practiced at first, the discovering and understanding must preceed...

You believe you can assess yourself (more) objectively through meditation ?

Does Buddhism come into play aswell in this process ? Or is it just another flavour of the same

Living meditation.. Can you refer this further pls

By “true” Wright means that Buddhism’s “diagnosis of the human predicament is fundamentally correct, and that its prescription is deeply valid and urgently important.” That diagnosis goes something like this: the human condition is defined by constant and ultimately inexplicable suffering. Meditation isn’t a way out of this suffering. But it helps us transcend it by teaching us to see it clearly for what it is, and by making us more attuned to our emotive impulses and the behaviors they produce.

There is no complete truth, unto itself or otherwise.

All information exchanges are inherently false to some extent.

Perceptual filtering/shaping on the part of the speaker and listener means the listener never exactly understands what speaker is saying.

Plus, you have to cut down the "truth" to something that can be conveyed in words and in minutes. Plus if you take more than a few minutes your listeners occasionally take a mental walk in the park and miss part of your presentation.

Complete truth never had a chance.

It's within every breath exhaled, living and breathing through the body, why attempt to access oneself when one needs to be oneself, in order to do, one must first be....

A signpost for some, a place of rest for others, still others a place to work, it's up to the individual whether it is useful for them...

Living in one's meditation is having full awareness of oneself whilst active and engaged in our normal conscious lives, no matter how interesting or mundane the moment is and when an individual can successfully meditate in this way it strengthens the soul in relation to one's physical environment, amongst other things...

“The active man, busy with the affairs of human life, has no time to think of death, and hence, no need for immortality; if he thinks of death, he only sees in it the warning to arrange wisely his allotted span of life, not to waste precious time on unworthy objects, but to apply it to the fulfillment of the tasks he has set himself to do.”

— Ludwig Feuerbach
