Lol, your a hard man Castle :)
That is a very scientific answer on your part mate, "Its up to people to back up their claims" is it really?
It certainly is for an Academic making some statement. But a lot of the stuff presented here and on other websites are nothing more than, "Hey check this, this is what I found, this is my take on it"
I am probably less of a skeptic than you I suspect, and as you say there was no infrared images he claimed existed. But I didn't really pick him for a chuckle head lol :)
Remember, it is an worn out, misused and abused line I agree, but...

"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence!"
Carl Sagan.

Call me ignorant if it is warranted, but, here is what I got from the video.

On the side of wonder...
  • Some awfully weird shapes on the surface of mars.
  • An object of some sort 20km long appearing just before a space probe shuts down.
  • Some apparently crazy arse shadows on the surface of mars.
  • A Russian scientist coming forward with some spooky unexplained photos.

On the side of the skeptic...
  • No proof whatsoever.
  • No infrared images presented.
  • Much wild speculation.
  • However no alternate explanation.
Don't you think your doing yourself an injustice by being so dismissive?
And
In advance...
Peace man :)

I agree completely in that Carl Sagan quote......he was someone I admired back in the day. I also do understand how things are presented on websites similar to this and on youtube. To me the person narrating this does qualify as a chucklehead because all he does is make claims.....and in the case of his "city" all I see is pixelated mush.

Personally natural landforms fit as an alternative explanation....especially in the case of his alleged "city".

No need to call you ignorant.....especially since you strike me as one of the more intelligent and knowledgeable people here. Your observations of what the narrator claims to see are quite clear and the same about the skeptics take on this.

Am I more of a skeptic than you......in some ways yes. Am I hard on reports like this.....yes.....but then when I review scientific reports I expect data gaps to be minimized. I expect claims to be backed by evidence and not wishful thinking....and even then nothing is 100%. But at least evidence helps answer questions.....if the people are open minded enough to want to find the answers.

I guess I am less analytical than that, I tend to take things at face value mostly. Unless something hits my lunatic alert button I just sort of enjoy it for what it is. I suppose i should be more critical. I think if maybe a person ups and claims something as fact and it doesn't ring true I will question it.
It is like when I see a movie and it is a sequel.
A lot of peoples first comment will be, "Well it wasn't as good as the first one" That never even crosses my mind really. I am a pretty easy critic :) Most of the time at least.

I guess it depends on what the original movie was like......like the first Star Trek movie sucked as far as I am concerned. The Wrath of Khan was awesome.

I think my chucklehead/lunatic/seeking attention alert is more sensitive than most.....but then as long as I can answer my questions I don't need to get to upset. But then I'm just trying to find answers/valid information on things I believe in like certain cryptids, paranormal and intelligent races of ETs living outside of our solar along with unexplained phenomena.

I just have a different concept of "unexplained" and "unidentified" as many on sites like this.

"Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence!"
i wonder what this saying will be worth in?? =hmmm 20/50/200 years time?

Dundee me ol' mate; give us a future date when you feel the new take on this saying will be something like: '"Absence of evidence can only mean evidence of absence!"

what do you think?- just out of interest:wink8:

I think the opposite, in my opinion it will become more apparent and more relevant than ever.
Science is an ever changing ever evolving thing. Much of what seemed impossible of fanciful or just plain incorrect by science of 100 years ago, becomes common place and easily explained today. So unless we blow our plnet back to the stone age. It seems to me we discover a lot of things through new evidence.
So while I agree there will likely be much that stays in the realm of nonsense, much will not.
I do believe however that very little is impossible. And I certainly don't rule something out because science can't currently prove it.
So I guess the answer to your question would depend on to exactly what topic it is applied ot?
Do I believe Unicorns exist because ther is no proof they don't, well no, I don't believe in Unicorns
DO I believe the Phobos incident may be ET, well yes I believe it may be ET. Perhaps we will go there one day and know for sure one way or another.

it is for sure-- but science needs something to study== ya know, REAL evidence- not 'just a story' which is all we have after 80+ years of modern ufology! oh well, there ya go:wink8:

Maybe the UFO/ Alien reports are Supernatural /Paranormal in nature if that were the case then there would be no real evidence, even though the phenomena is real.

if there is no real evidence (of which you admit to) then your good self saying: 'the phenomena is real' by default is 'just an opinion'= correct?

If the UFO/ Alien phenomena is Supernatural / Paranormal as with Ghosts and the like then it is real but almost impossible to quantify scientifically.

I'd say its going to stay the same as I think it quite likely there will always be mysteries.

That's because science is changing as you say and is always trying to prove itself wrong. What makes me laugh is how science allegedly is so ridged it won't change. Whoever says that isn't paying attention and needs science lessons.....not to mention they've never seen real scientists in their life.

Oh so what you're saying is:
because no one has proved aliens are here on this planet then there must be another explanation for the fantasy?
So how would you feel if an alien race did land here for the world to see (ya know the real deal) & tell you they're the first here? then you're feelings would be justified I guess...
How would you feel if they also told you the supernatural does not exist?== would you say they need an open mind & need to think outside of the box?
Just out of interest...
I'm making up a little scenario here to get you thinking.. & why not- I see little scenarios, stories regarding this enigma all the time:wink8:

It would be good if it didn't exist ( supernatural/ paranormal ) as my house would a lot quieter at night time. I would get more sleep. Tell me about your little scenarios.

I don't think people say Science is so rigid it won't change. My issue has been more the selective recognition of exactly that. One one hand as you say science is constantly trying to prove itself wrong, and history does show that it has often been wrong. Yet even with the recognition of that fact, scientists are often the most scornful of anything not yet proven by science. The rigid opinion that because it is yet to be proven, it is just rubbish seems a pretty selective way of looking at things. If as you say a scientist is aware of science constantly proving itself wrong as we learn. Surely a scientist should be more open minded than anyone. Yet, it seems quite the opposite.

all due respect but you're missing a major point:

scientists having an open mind is completely different to 'having an open mind' & attempting to study something that is not there to study! having an open mind in the way you're suggesting will need time, effort & no doubt money= science can not & will not do that.. why would it?

What do you call real evidence?
You mean like seeing something in the night sky and confirming with the local Airport that it was a commercial aircraft full of passengers?
Or..
When something is currently unexplained by science and requires more study?
Or...something else?

There are plenty of unexplained reports of things that have been observed by multiple people, that can't be studied because the event was transient, but no less real however just because it was brief.
These reports then by you assessment are just stories and therefore not real.
There is an absence of evidence because the event can't be duplicated as it was unknown.
But that absence of evidence leads only to no answer. Not to the event never having taken place.
But you dismiss it because it can't be studied?

Well if you don't have any 'real' ones the point is mooted.
real stories? hmm, how do you work out what's real?

ok here's one:

i saw a small silver disc-shaped object hovering over the sports field at the end of my garden. it moved like it was distorting. i was gob smacked== never believed in ufos until now!

you'll know it's BS because you know me- correct.

i rest my case:wink8:

I don't know you from a bar of soap . Only what I have seen on here, maybe you think that's enough to put you on trial for heresy or something ? I know what I know and that's enough for me I have nothing to prove either way except for the fact that something is going on and most probably always has been going on since humankind turned up on this rock.

it just gets tedious after a while & i have no real answer to that, Sir
