Anyone tried the Model 3 ?

And I'm bit sceptic to the huge cost of servicing the Tesla. Oil filter change for the fixed gearbox and new tyres, thats about it.

I read the news,
seems as if lately they kill about once a week,
I sure would not want to get into one of them

I haven't read of anyone dying from driving a Tesla, can you post a couple examples?...I thought they are relatively safe vehicles?...

I would love to own one of these, I've been wanting an electric car...I would engineer a charging conversion (if possible, I would need to know the specifications and requirements) so I can have a wider range of options for charging, back-ups...lol

I did some looking into Tesla safety, but wasnt able to find much, but this list from a software engineers

In 2014 a guy stole a Tesla, took it on a high speed police chase and was killed when he hit a barrier ripping the car in half

Also in 2014 a guy died when he drove off a cliff

In 2015 a guy was killed in Manitoba when he hit a dump truck

In 2016 a guy put his car on autopilot and started watching a movie when he hit a tractor trailer and was killed.

And that's about all I could find in an admittedly quick google search.

edit: the NHTSA says there was no evidence autopilot guy was watching a movie. I also was informed in the comments that cliff guy was a suicide.

Also, some more accidents:

In 2015 another guy drove off a cliff, this time in Malibu (previous one was Sonoma)

In 2015 an 85 year old died after driving through a wall and into a pool. His passenger escaped

In 2016 a Tesla was rear ended by a large SUV possibly driven by a drunk driver, killing a 10 year old girl and critically injuring a 13 year old.

In 2016 a drunk woman drove her car into a tree. The Tesla exploded killing her and her boss who was a passenger

In 2016 a guy in China had the car in Autopilot and drove into a street cleaner truck.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is an agency of the Executive Branch of the U.S. government, part of the Department of Transportation. It describes its mission as "Save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes." Wikipedia

Thanks, it seems most accidents were driver caused, human caused accidents, not because of the car or it's design otherwise there would be recalls...

here is the sort of thing I was seeing
Tesla Bursts Into Flames After "Violent Crash" In Switzerland, Killing Driver Trapped Inside
Tesla Model S Bursts Into Flames After "Horrific" Crash, Killing Two Men Trapped Inside
Man Killed After Tesla Model S Crashes Into Pond
Tesla says vehicle in deadly California crash was on autopilot | CBC News

they look safe enough if you never get into an accident. (and don't use the autopilot feature.)
but the fire from the batteries seems like a pretty bad penalty for getting into a wreck

Yeah I would not trust autopilot just yet, like any budding technology it will have some failures during testing and development...We are far from depending on that type of technology...

The fires caused by batteries is concerning but it may be a matter of location in the vehicle, but any major impact on super powered batteries is a possible explosion in my opinion...

Why worry,lol

The best way to go is with some style.. A big electric Tesla bang... And you're off to Next Life

the tesla car company choose lithium ion batteries, and I bet it will be there downfall.
lithium iron phosphate batteries last 4 times as long (as in years of use) and don't ever catch fire.
they are a bit more volume for the capacity, but not enough to mess up making a car with them. (and if anything, they weigh less)
seems to me that once a company starts making a lithium iron phosphate powered car, the lithium ion cars will vanish pretty fast.
and if they ever start making the Ni-Mh powered cars again, they will replace all the lithium powered cars of any sort.

A Tesla is like a smartphone with all the Bling Bling and added wheels.

Musk and his boys arnt dumb . Far from. The batteries are the type they are cuz of economical reasons.

Here's another one in the news today, spontaneously exploded?...

'Thank god our girls weren’t in the car': West Wing star Mary McCormack claims her husband's Tesla Model S spontaneously burst into flames while he was driving in traffic in Los Angeles

'This is what happened to my husband and his car today,' McCormack wrote on Twitter Friday, posting a shocking video of a Model S spewing flames from the front driver's side front wheel well.
