Good Bourbon

Kchoo

At Peace.
I was in a store browsing bourbon when a guy filled a shopping cart with several bottles of Johnny Walker Black.

So I asked if it was all for him.

“Yes, its all I drink any more... I live way out, so I am stocking up... these bottles should last me a few months. I think I may enjoy it too much, but I am old, and I can’t imagine a better retirement plan.”

Double black is even better than the black and the Platinum is so very smooth...

Not strictly bourbon but if you are drinking Johnnie Walker Black or Double Black you need this in your liquor cabinet...

Not to put down Johnnie Walker, but once you try some Islay whiskies it’s hard to go back to blended. Good choices are Ardbeg 10 YO, Lagavulin 16 YO and Talisker 10 YO.

I seemed to have lost my comments. I opened a bottle of Old Forester this afternoon. This is my first taste of an Old Forester product and this one is first rate in my opinion.

1E3EFCC3-8A10-4D8B-8952-AD2906267E80.jpeg I recommend that you try bourbons that are higher than 40% ABV. They have a better taste to them. A few drops of water bring out other aromas.

The Pikesville Rye is 55% ABV.

I've not tried Rye Whiskey before but I've wanted to...This Crown Royal Mash is okay, it's got a little bite to it though...I'm drinking it straight at room temperature (about 76 degrees) in a bourbon glass and chasing it with Coke Cola...Its not bad but Johnny Walker Double Black is much better lol...

I spent a lifetime not drinking much and when I do I can't handle it. But this stuff is good.

Meh,, About a half of cup of this stuff is good, after that, it just tastes like every other alcohol.

If you enjoy smoky peated whiskies, you need to try Islay whiskies. Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Caol Ila, Ardbeg and Bunnahabhain should be on your list. You won’t go back to Double Black.

Generally I prefer rye, but a good bourbon is hard to beat. One of my favorite ryes is Wild Turkey, which is the first rye I tried if memory serves. I reasoned that I like Wild Turkey bourbon very much, so that was a good place to start. I can still taste some corn in rye now and then, but by law it can be mixed with plenty of bourbon.

Evan Williams is damn good whiskey, and cheap too. Their 1783 is really good, and still a great deal. Like me some Jameson too, now and then. Goes down a little too easy in the middle of March.

The Wild Turkey rye makeup is 51% rye, 37% corn and 12% malted barley. So you will be able to taste plenty of corn in the mashbill.

I'll try this one next time, it looks good...Drink enough of the Crown bourbon I have open and it goes down smoother lol, can't complain though since it was a gift...
