near death experiences

Read this a while ago but the University of Virginia Dept. of Perceptual studies has (or had) a fair amount of stuff posted online regarding NDEs and children who remember past lives. Takes a bit to drill through the site but it's very interesting.

Got an Amazon coupon for a Kindle book burning a virtual hole in my virtual pocket. Looking for a decent book recommendation regarding NDEs and so forth. Not spiritual or religious or any of that, more clinical. Not so easy to find as I initially thought. I am aware of Dr.Eben Alexander, but the interviews I've heard him give just don't quite resonate with me.

Thanks in advance

Have you looked at books by Raymond Moody or Michael Newton?

I did have a look at both, so thanks. Amazon’s Kindle credit – revealed after a few too many clicks – was a shiny quarter. $0.25. Pinch me, I must be dreaming. Wound up ordering Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences. Might order Dr. Raymond Moody's Life After Life as a ‘should read.’

This doesn't quite fit the NDE profile but here's my own experience with piercing the veil: my Mom died about 20 years ago in a Hospice facility. Do not smoke – she died an ugly, undignified brutal death at just a bit over 64. She was heavily doped on morphine and weighed about 75lbs. False teeth didn’t fit and she was mumbling virtually every minute about something. After a while we realized it was some kind of life detailed review. You’d catch snippets of things you actually remembered. Odd.

A few days before she died at one point she started calling out loudly and clearly for her (deceased) father. After more than a week of mumbly life review it was surprising to say the least. This went on a while until my aunt told me to lean in and tell her “Daddy’s here.” Eeeeeee. So I did. She dialed into me instantly, eyes were completely clear and then she looked extremely disappointed and said “you’re not Daddy. He didn’t have a beard.”

Then about two seconds later she dialed in again, looked right over my shoulder and said “THERE'S DADDY !!” and was gleeful. Seemed to be a quick hi & goodbye & see you real soon. Her last fragment of any apparent lucidity. My skin was literally crawling and there was a genuine Ghostbusters moment where I had to gulp and then turn around, and of course nobody was there.

The skeptic in me can account for all of that.
My guts can’t.

I can relate to that as a fellow skeptic. Many years ago my grandmother was in hospital,we were told she had hours rather than days left to live.I had gone to the hospital straight from a night shift and after a few hours vigil had to go home to sleep.I had the most vivid dream that I remember to this day.I was sat next to grandma who was in her hospital bed and her deceased husband appeared. He bent down, kissed her on her forehead looked at me and said "She's not ready yet"..I woke up and drove back to the hospital to find grandma sat up in bed eating soup. She lived for several more years in reasonably good health after this.Again I can rationalise it being a coincidence or wishful dreaming but her recovery was almost unbelievable.

We may never find out what the hell a UFO is or where it comes from. I doubt I'll ever run with Sasquatch.
BUT, each and every one of us will drop dead sooner or later so I guess everybody will have their answer.

I always hate talking about stories like this, They always start out with I, me, my, Why should people care about that.

When I was younger, I had Sleep apnea, The worst attack I ever had was so bad I jolted awake, I could barely see and I ran to the bathroom where it was well lit and My lips and eyelids were dark blue. That was scary, But The experience I had was far worse, It was like I was in a normal dream state and the dream itself just melted away. I was in this very surreal place where I was keenly aware that I was dying. There was nothing but endless nothing forever in all directions, There is no greater feeling of being totally alone, When I think of that place, I call it a Void, It was like An infinite emptiness so dark that the darkness was literally washing me away into it. Like I was becoming part of it or even being erased by it.

This fear I had was so great, I woke up, ran to the bathroom, wherein the mirror I saw I was indeed dark blue in my lips and eyelids like I hadn't been breathing in who knows how long.

If you are thinking, That sounds pretty scary, You would be right, Till this day, I have sleeping problems and it's because of that one experience.
