Are flat earthers a conspiracy?

Recently I have been inundated with stories about people who allegedly believe that the earth is flat on news aggregation websites, my Google information feed and on YouTube, and those services all seem very keen to persuade me that there is a recent resurgence of the flat earth belief. However, I have never actually met a flat earther, and am dubious as to whether they actually exist. What do you all think?

Met one guy who was adamant he was right about the earth being flat.No amount of evidence would dissuade him.I concluded that he thought he was one of the special few who had seen through all the lies.Moon landing, fake!,Earth billions of years old, fake!.He was too smart to fall for all that.Photographs doctored, plane windows curved to falsely show the earth as round. At first I thought he was joking but no,he meant every word.

Stare..... They are always staring
Unless you want to start a flame war you probably should not mention that the moon isn't made out of green cheese

I guess that humans eyes are curved to cause the curvature of bodies of water then.

We don't have an example of a flat planet from astronomers. I read that Earth is the bottom half of Tiamat the planet that was where the asteroid belt is. What if the Earth is a half sphere.

There was the rocket man in California who recently launched himself up to prove the earth was flat but I don't think he reach the altitude he desired...We have a thread on this stunt...

Just finished a book about Apollo 8. Samuel Shenton of the New England Flat Earth Society said right in the middle of the mission that "the public was being hoodwinked by NASA" Well, who doesn't love a good hoodwinking?

Frank Borman's response - still in transit - was "It doesn't look too flat from here ....."

It's not just that you know, I think Thomas would agree with me on this, But then, I understand that he won't touch a flat earth thread lol, However, Gravity wouldn't affect the earth as it does if the earth were flat, Mathematically because we can see the rest of the solar system and how it orbits the sun, and how the moon orbits earth, how it affects the tide, If flat-earthers could do math they would see the flat earth theory isn't just impossible, It's an insulting accusation to those with elementary comprehension, That's why I don't understand what flat-earthers want from people. To me, A flat earther is someone who wants to play a psychological joke, Like a malicious intent almost, Almost like, Hey look, everyone, look what I can get people to believe, Then they go and laugh about it... That's how I perceive a flat-earther :/

I've always thought Flat Earthers were jokes, I just wasn't sure exactly what kind of joke. Sure, some people are actually thick enough to buy such claptrap, but most of them have got to be kidding.

It's true, It's like Farmer said, You can't underestimate how daft some people can be. :(

95% of the conspiracy theories talked about in the 1980s came true by the year 2010
people noticed that. and they started to pay attention to them, clearly a threat to global domination...
would seem that this needed "fixed"
so it seems that the conspiracy theories have been diluted with broken nonsense.
the flat earth idea is just one of many to distract you with misdirection.
