Hurricanes 2018

The latest I've heard is that Florence will not be quite as strong at landfall as originally predicted but it will be a little larger. This means the storm surge will probably be worse in the outermost areas like Nags Head in the Outer Banks.

Central Virginia is apparently going to be spared and we'll probably only receive about 4 inches of rain. Prayers for the people in Myrtle Beach and SC. They're going to get hit a lot worse than originally predicted... unless it changes again.

But I hope we don't come across as " ambulance chasers"...or whatever term you'd give it. As well meaning as it is , the last thing somebody likes to see is grandiose stories of what could happen.
The real problem after hurricanes is the disreputable contractors who come around offering to cut up fallen trees and make quick repairs. Most contractors are honest and reliable but there are always a few bad apples who will exploit the situation and run away with people's money.

I seen a guy had posted on facebook "storm surge is expected to be 18 feet or higher 5 miles inland" is this true? wow

I heard the highest storm surge will be 12' so he might have been exaggerating a little. Still, they say just 3' of storm surge can carry away a car.

They predict storm surge of 20 feet.
Scientists say Hurricane Florence could produce historic storm surge of up to 20 feet
  • The surge from Florence will be particularly dangerous due to the flat nature of the coastline off North and South Carolina.
  • The storm surge could reach heights of up to 20 feet, according to scientists.
  • It's expected to drop between 20 and 40 inches of rain in some parts that could produce "catastrophic flash flooding."

Wow! Once the surge crosses land, there's really nothing to stop it, just some sand berms.

It was downgraded to a high cat 3 today. Hopefully it'll drop to a cat 2 before landfall.

As Above So Below
My friend in Wilmington NC has no power in his apartment, he's on the second floor and he's not worried about water as much as the winds lol...

It's getting windy here now and a big band of heavy rain will hit us in a couple hours...

We almost ever get anything but downgraded tropical storms where I live, Still. Ocean storms have a weird smell to them. It almost makes me sick. I can't explain it. Yucky ocean smell. I can't stand it.

Some people like the smell of the ocean, But it's literally water that animals have pooped into for hundreds of millions of years. I'm just being practical here. yucky ocean smell.
