what i wrote on the picture sums up the question.. so how is this possible? how does my computer glitch out then suddenly i look at my photos and not only does it go before the date the computer was created (which i can understand if you save a pic off a digital camera it can timestamp that picture).. but 1921?... what happened in 1921? this computer died since then.. cannot read the harddrive >.>

Could be the Cmos battery but usually, a rule I follow is that whenever the time changes like that it's a virus setting your time back so scheduled updates won't occur and thus eliminating the possibility of virus scanners updating and catching it.

The drive is dead, I would bet it's a boot sector Virus, A low-level format would probably fix it if you could find the right low-level format tool for it.

This one is supposed to be universally capped at 180 gigs though. It may do the trick.

I do not think that a faulty CMOS battery can cause a date as far back as 1921 to appear. I believe the system time as maintained by the motherboard's real-time clock is usually Unix time, which starts in 1970. There are other date data types in software, which can go back as far as 1 BC.

A computer at work had a faulty battery on its main board which cause the date to jump back at random dates between 1992 and 2002 whenever it was restarted...It did this for about two weeks until I replaced that battery, since then its been spot on the correct time and date...
