Mount Everest is turning into a Disgusting Eyesore

The Nepal government needs to charge climbers extra money in order to keep the mountain clean. They should have been doing this from the get go. Instead, after
all these decades, someone is finally worried about all these bodies left on the mountain? Go figure.

A deposit based on how many items they take plus a body removal fee. If they come back with all their items they get the say $2000 deposit back.

I don't think the body removal fee would be around 40 or 50 years later. Also you should see the piles of trash removed at the end of the season. If you are coming down half dead you are not going to care about anything left behind on the Hillary Step.

One of the big problems with removing "waste" from the upper reaches of the mountain is that the people removing it would have to wait until after the climbing season is over. However, that would be during the monsoon season where the weather on the mountain is quite often lethal. So to remove it then would be very dangerous. But if they wait the waste will be covered in snow and ice.

I agree that it is becoming quite a mess...….but is it really worth the lives of others to go get it. I'd have expected to be left on the mountain...unless I died at base camp.

Do helicopters work at that altitude or is the air too thin?

It aint't the bodies, it's the crapola. I agree. Sagamartha is undoubtedly pissed to be festooned with garbage

I'm sure Chomolungma is pissed as the death rates have gone up...…...but cleaning the upper reaches is only going to add more bodies.

Agreed. Into Thin Air was a nifty book

Hey - since you're here right now, in case you didn't see it in another thread, Shattered Sword by Tully & Parshall is worth a read

Yes.....''into thin air'' is a good book. When I first saw the movie it made sense based on what I saw. I was there the year before. Due to the high altitude and the sudden changes in weather it certainly appears enchanted.....and I still think it might be.

But as for bringing amateur climbers there reminds me of a line from ''Rambo''.....''its like bringing the pigeons to the cat''.

I'm not familiar with shattered sword.
