I refuse to listen to any podcast that mentions Roswell. There will never be a definitive solution to that incident. It's all about selling books and dvds when it comes to that subject.

Why does the mention of Roswell make so many people break out in hives? That's a rhetorical question, of course, so please spare me the litany of reasons to hate it. For years now, I've seen such reactions as a sociological puzzle. I'm not too good at those, so it remains a mystery to me. I strongly suspect is has something to do with the growing tribalism within the UFO topic, and that makes me sad. When it comes to real answers about the various UFO phenomena, we basically know diddly squat about it, but we will fight tooth and nail over the correct spelling of Didley-Skwat.

From UFO trail:

Gene says he’s considering adding e-checks as a payment option for the Paracast plus. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE THIS MAN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION. You’ve been warned. Better safe than to be sorry

this is true a. Echeck will have your account number that with work can be accessed. the routing number a little more work.. never give Gene a check..

I thought I’d give the paracast another try as they seem to still be plodding gamely on. The lastest episode was just too painful for words. I’m sure the lady guest (Irena) was very intelligent/lucid in her day but she certainly seems to have lost it now - I’ve never heard such a vague, rambling, stumbling, unsubstantiated, pointless “interview”. I even felt sorry for poor old Randall trying to keep the whole sad sack together, Gene sounded as enthusiastic and participatory as usual.

IIRC, she began with a story about being exposed to someone retouching UFO's out of aerial photos at a NASA facility or somewhere. Since then, oh gee golly whizz, she has remembered a lifetime of alien encounters and added a bunch of other stuff to her CV (making me wonder if she's pulling an Imbrogno). I just checked her online presence; she's a flat out nutter as best I can determine. I would guess this must have been a creepy waste of time as a listen.

I looked at the Paracast website. There was exactly 1 member who replied to Irena Scott’s appearance. That should tell you everything you want to know about the state of that website. It’s close to dead.

Simply reading the paragraph of biog on the Parasite announcing her appearance was enough to tell me she was a wacko. It seems that is all that Gene can get on now - psychotic crazies or elderly bow tie wearing introverts who never leave their house or use social media and so are unaware of Gene's shenanigans (though even they will find out eventually).

yes that member has a been a previous forum guest himself - so has partaken of the Paracast Kool-Aid :) There a few remaining cult members, but essentially the forum sure is a lonely place these days

yes alas it's all pretty shabby these days :( I bet Chris O'B's glad he's out of it - but his name still appears on the end-credits voiceover

Eh, these things run their course. Doing a weekly podcast is demanding and I'm sure it's tough to keep fresh after years and years, especially if focused on a topic where not much new is ever really going to happen.

GS insists the Paracast is one of his many jobs but I think most would assess it as more of a hobby, maybe with aspirations toward it being a job. In my book there's nothing wrong with something being a hobby, especially when the creator and audience and other participants find it rewarding.

If GS doesn't seem interested in the show anymore, we can only speculate why he keeps it going. It gives him someone to talk to? It provides a population he can email asking for cash? He's still hoping to make a 'real' career of it?

I don't know he never seemed that interested in the topic or guests to me, other than as a chance to speak of his own past.

I'm glad he seems to have dialed back the begging, at least.

For many years now, the Paracast has been the vehicle to allow Steinberg to shill for money. Nothing more, nothing less. You can tell about the emphasis he places on being part of the show. His main goal is to make sure all the proper advertising breaks take place. If only he cared as much about his guests.

And appealing for volunteer help? Sure, fine. But folks - you can start your own podcast. Or you could learn the ropes here, from Darth Grift and his oddball apprentice. I know which way I'd go.

As Above So Below
A pretty hot deal here, in an appeal for volunteers to work on the Paracast. Can you imagine the power of a letter of appreciation from the likes of GS and JRM? You could write your own ticket in the world of... uh... the unemployable, I guess?

The last thing I would put on any resume is Gene Steinberg's name...

The only way I'd want his name on my resume is if it were preceded by text along the lines of, "secured the conviction of", "freed the Internet from the longstanding scourge of", "helped end the menace of". You know. Something like that.
