The Pentagon has finally uttered the words it always avoided when discussing the possible existence of UFOs — “unidentified aerial phenomena” — and admits that it still investigates reports of them.

In a statement provided exclusively to The Post, a Department of Defense spokesman said a secret government initiative called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program “did pursue research and investigation into unidentified aerial phenomena.”

And while the DOD says it shut down the AATIP in 2012, spokesman Christopher Sherwood acknowledged that the department still investigates claimed sightings of alien spacecraft.

“The Department of Defense is always concerned about maintaining positive identification of all aircraft in our operating environment, as well as identifying any foreign capability that may be a threat to the homeland,” Sherwood said.

“The department will continue to investigate, through normal procedures, reports of unidentified aircraft encountered by US military aviators in order to ensure defense of the homeland and protection against strategic surprise by our nation’s adversaries.”

Nick Pope, who secretly investigated UFOs for the British government during the 1990s, called the DOD’s comments a “bombshell revelation.”

Pope, a former UK defense official-turned-author, said, “Previous official statements were ambiguous and left the door open to the possibility that AATIP was simply concerned with next-generation aviation threats from aircraft, missiles and drones — as skeptics claimed.

“This new admission makes it clear that they really did study what the public would call ‘UFOs,’ ” he said.

“It also shows the British influence, because UAP was the term we used in the Ministry of Defence to get away from the pop culture baggage that came with the term ‘UFO.’ ”

It’s no wonder that the general population mistrusts those in authority. We get lies and misinformation on a daily basis. I’m sure those same authorities think that the citizens can’t handle what is really going on and that they are doing us a favor keeping everyone stupid.

Most UFO investigators would be happy if they would reopen Project Blue Book. I'm sure critics would point to the cost and call it a waste of money but, considering what the DOD spends every year, it wouldn't even be a drop in the bucket.

The Pentagon has finally uttered the words it always avoided when discussing the possible existence of UFOs — “unidentified aerial phenomena” — and admits that it still investigates reports of them.

It's funny that they went straight to John Greenewald with this - the first thing I thought when I read this was "we should all give John Greenewald a wide berth today, because he's going to be testy about this." After many months of saying at the top of his lungs that the AATIP was probably just a mundane foreign aircraft study program, the Pentagon has just forced him to eat those words...even though Sen. Harry Reid had already plainly stated last year that the AATIP was a UFO study program. Clearly John's surprise in this clip is genuine: he's always known that the DoD has never unambiguously stated that they study UFOs, so he probably thought that he could keep insinuating that the AATIP was a mundane program and that everyone at TTSA are mendacious con artists until the cows came home and get away with it. But oops - something new happened.

So this is yet another example of an unprecedented development pertaining to this whole unfolding story.

All of the people who keep trying to argue that this story must be some kind of scam because every major UFO story that came before has turned out to be a scam, are starting to look pretty foolish right now. The problem with seeing everything that happens through the filter of the past is that when something actually new happens, you'll be the last the realize it.

Most UFO investigators would be happy if they would reopen Project Blue Book.
Actually Project Blue Book was a very uneven and often sloppy effort, which was ultimately turned into a smokescreen: not a good investigative model. Trying to study public UFO reports is almost always a fool's errand. The AATIP was a much better concept - by limiting their focus to reports emanating from the armed forces only, they culled out nearly all of the noise, and would (at least in theory) have access to the supporting data collected by the most sophisticated gun cameras and radar tracking systems on the planet. Luis Elizondo has flatly stated that the AATIP has continued (presumably under a different name following the publicity in the press) and I see no reason to disbelieve him.

The problem is the secrecy. The House of Representatives and the American people have a clear need to know - we can't govern properly without all of the available facts about our reality. I'm convinced that if Congress simply declassified all of the anomalous cases studied by the AATIP and its successor program - so we could see the full hi-rez footage from various intercepts, and so we could see the supporting active and passive radar data, there would be no question that nonterrestrial devices are navigating terrestrial airspace from time to time.

I cringe when I see Nick Pope's name mentioned. He wasn't an "official" or "investigator" at the MOD. He was simply a clerk. He has made a good life passing himself off as a high representative. He has told the lie so often that everyone believes his made up resume.

Its amazing the hostility there's been towards TTSA and AATIP from the likes of John Greenewald then, like you said "oops", a big oops in my opinion and the funny thing is there's more to come...All these naysayers will be likely whistling another tune very soon and flipping their views in an attempt to keep themselves relevant lol...

We must learn from the past but not let the past blind us from what's actually occurring in the here and now...

If all information on alien visitors were made public by all the governments of the world that have said information, it may be enough to unite humanity like never seen before...The public being aware of what I think are regular ongoing and sometimes heavy traffic of alien visitors to our world, would see this as a potential threat, as it may be, and from that realization humanity uniting in a truly meaningful and lasting way and stop fighting one another...

Yeah that was a face palm for me when I heard his name mentioned lol...

Simon Parkes said in a YT video that they track UFO's in space. He went on to say they see a lot of Star Trek Enterprise like craft. I was listening to a James Rink presentation and he said the Dark Fleet traveled back in time 400 years and seeded worlds with presumed human life. I suspect this was done because the human crop on Earth could be lost in an ascension event. I don't know if it matters where a species is in space when the event occurs. In SG-1 all the Ancients ascended. There must be protocols for avoiding or glitching these events.

I don't think DOD has really told us anything new. Of course they are going to investigate any unidentified aircraft (some of which are UFOs), they would not be doing their job otherwise. AATIP is a catch-all program whereby DOD can collect information on UFOs without actually "investigating UFOs", as they are investigating unidentified aircraft (once again, some of which are UFOs).

AATIP is probably the safe poster boy to bring into public.

Those other secret UFO programs they have, that have taken alot more black money, theyre not gonna be public anytime soon.

The problem is that there is a such a strong CYA culture ingrained in govt. Real knowledge is power and sharing it with anyone will only put you at risk.

That's a startling admission, though. Of course they have been tracking and investigating anything that could be perceived as a threat, but stating so publicly, and in such a forthright way, is something new. The timing is never an accident with something like that. This is getting interesting.

mon Parkes said in a YT video that they track UFO's in space.

Sure they do.

All the way back to 60's NORAD had capability to track football size objects, both with radars and telescopes, in geostationary orbit that is 36,000 miles up. Both radars and telescopes are positioned around the globe: Australia, South Africa, Spain etc. so that tracking can go 24/7.

There was one case in UK, where a soldier was dying from radiation because his body was covered with cancers. He claimed to be a part of one of 4 NATO clean up squads, that would remove anything that might cause panic after UFOs had landed. He said that his team always got instructions in advance where and when UFO will land. With NORAD's technology it is straightforward to see where they UFOs are aiming for.

Oh, and another thing that Washington Post published last year. Pentagon's black budget debt now reached total of $17 trillion. With that money they can easily reverse engineer UFOs if they collected information for 40-50 odd years.

Has anybody asked himself / herself what would happen after government went for full unequivocal UFO disclosure?

IMHO the first next question government would have to answer would be: "What are they doing here?"

Very awkward question to ask, particularly in front of media poised to make a fortune out of public's confusion.

What are they doing here?
How many different species of visitor does the government know about?
Has any civil contact been made with any of them or vise versa?

There's a host of questions that can come from full UFO disclosure, I think the world in general can handle knowing we are being visited by alien species from other planets...There may be some protests and social disorder out of fear, but overall I don't see the world going into chaos from UFO disclosure...It should united the world more so, especially if we do not know the true intent of the alien's who visit our world...

What if media than asked a logical questions:

- "Are the abduction stories true?" followed by "Are they doing experiments on humans?" followed by "What is government doing to stop this?"

There would be a major fall in trust into government. These obvious questions are reason why there would never be full release.

You're absolutely correct, without a doubt, this could get really ugly once questioning and discussion begins concerning alien abductions...That did slip my thoughts earlier...Our species is being abducted by another, in my opinion, this is occurring and has been happening in the past...The governments would need to answer those type of questions if full UFO disclosure were to take place, irregardless of whether they know anything about alien abductions or not at all, the latter of which I doubt...

There is government and there are civil servants. All military officers are civil servants. Essentially government governs, civil servants do the groundwork.

It is very unlikely that any congressmen or senators are even vaguely aware about anything related to UFOs. Their focus are day to day things and getting re-elected. They would be as surprised by UFO disclosure as everybody else, and that would create nightmare for civil servants. Than, most of civil servants that set up current policies, back in 1950's, are now dead. Who's to blame? Civil servants have intrinsic interest not to disclose any of this.

And they have ages old strategies to distract politicians, like simply overwhelming them with low quality info, like noise. If you watch congressional hearings, you can always see those 25,000 pages documents. It's pathetic how unprepared most congressmen sound. What congressman has time and stuff to read 25,000 pages in 7 days? And than next week he/she would have another issue, with another 25,000 pages. They simply can't keep up.

Civil servants are here to do their job, and protecting nation's secrets is their top priority. Nobody can argue against that.

We all will be guessing forever, or until civilian scientists reverse engineer UFOs.

How about the possibility that not only are there various alien races here on Earth but they have been here longer than the human race has existed. How would that make all of us feel? Would we be in fact second class citizens on this planet we call our own? It's certainly something to think about.
