I was going to buy this from a friend but decided that I could not afford the parts.

My old BMW Series 2

Got some pictures of my Lotus back in the 80s

What do I love driving now?

My old clapped Fiesta which had just cost me another £400 on MOT repairs.

I love driving that old car, as there is nothing for anyone to wreck.

Went to get petrol for it about three months ago and was told: " Get out you tramp...and go get a job!" by someone who wanted to push in. (I was wearing scruffy jeans whilst working)

I like being a tramp
Many years ago I could not even afford to by a banger

Very slick. An acquaintance has a Lotus Elise that he has generously offered me the keys to a couple of times. I just can’t fit in the damned thing

Lol...

If you look at the Ferrari 308GBT (above) I had the same problem.
They also make a beautiful aerodynamic car to spoil it with that gear stick.

It has Fiat 'written all over it'

Did have a Lotus Europa but instead of the Ford twin cam engine it had the Renault 16 engine. Still pretty fast

Lotus are a disgrace as they use everyone else's parts into their own.

If I am correct, they use the Rover 2000 rear lights upside down (or was that the Nova?)
On the Europa it had parts of the Hillman Imp!.

Trouble with the Brit cars, was that they still used the slow low compression engines without hardly any difference in design based on years previous.

One of the best cars I had was the Triumph Stag. Very similar to the American Ford Mustang.

The Daimler in black (above) used to return 11 mpg.

6.4 litres V12 with six SU2 carburettors.

At the time back in around 1984 (I think) the complete exhaust system would cost £300 Probably around £2500 in today's money?

It used to be fun. If I got pulled up by the police for a none endorseable motoring offences they never bothered fining me because if I could afford Margaret Thatcher's car to drive...money would not have bothered me.

The acceleration was awesome. I could beat a Honda 250 motorcycle at traffic lights.

In sold the radio for more than I could sell the car. It started corroding and with a limousine if folks could afford to run one, they may as well buy a new one.

The fastest car I had ever driven was the MR2 above. Some drivers would try and race you at the lights without you knowing about it. They would underestimate the car's acceleration and drive into the back of you. I never lost my no claim's discount but when I had the car repaired..half of it was orange under Sodium lighting.
I got fed up with fast cars because of the idiots on the road.

Did actually try to find a similarly fast car, but the agents said that nothing could beat it. Perhaps a Porsche with a price tag around £35,000? When that turbo 'kicked in' it was like a Nitrous Oxide boost. Being pinned to the seat with a whoosh of air.

The only turbo car i have had was a Mazda RX7 turbo2, fun car. since the 2 stood for a power band like in old dirt bikes, and when it and the turbo kinked in Damn. some other fun cars i`ve had , 1966 corvair monza, 1969 Datsun 2200 roadster. 1971 Vega panel w/350 full race cam. 1966 ford galaxy xl500 w/390, 1971 Olds 442, 1927 ford model T fordor sedan.

Hate to be dull here, but my full size supercab 4WD 2015 F150 is running a ridiculously tiny 2.7 liter v-6. Twin turbos. Put your foot into it lets out a funny little whistle while it takes off like a scalded dog. You would think there is big v8 under there. At 325hp/360 ft.lbs of torque that cast iron little bitty motor makes numbers that old muscle cars boasted of and gives me 20+ mpg around town

Cool stuff on your list. Friend of mine stopped by yesterday for beer & bullshit in the garage. Sadly the old ‘vette has developed an electrical conf**kulation that is proving a challenge. That’s short for ‘ain’t runnin’ right’.

My buddy parks his ‘63 Galaxie (with the Tbird v8) in his garage next to his Plum Krazy Purple Challenger 440 Magnum six pack. Oh, and he’s the original owner of both and they’re both Day 1 original with maybe 75k miles between them. He ought to call Jay Leno. Not the fastest but rare and cool

The classic car forum I am in is boring as hell so here's what I am thinking about this right now.

My 'fast car' has been annoyingly sidelined. I rebuilt the front and rear suspension, power steering system, new brakes and lines, shocks, etc over the winter. Was running beautifully when I parked it. Took it for a ride a few weeks ago because the suspension has to settle in a bit before I torque it all down for good and suddenly it started backfiring and farting and puking.

Got it home and finally, mercifully figured it all out the other day. Starter wires had been shoved out of the way when I was painting. I failed to check them and they were hanging there like a wind chime and that's what started the initial problem. The rough ride cased another part of the wiring harness to slip forward just enough to immolate itself on the exhaust manifold. Did it burn up a hunk of wire easily replaced? Of course not. These old cars with mechanical distributor and breaker points run on 12 volts like anything else, except for the primary ignition system. The coil is what puts the spark in your spark plug and with GM it only wants to see 5-7 volts at the + lead of the coil. GM accomplished this with a hunk of 'resistive wire' that can't be spliced, since melted a bit and oddly providing zero resistance. Now there's a Mopar ballast resistor on the firewall doing the same job.

The voltage regular also took a powder causing the charging system to run at max - 14.9 volts, which subsequently fried the points and cooked a set of plugs. Think R2D2 when he got blasted by Darth Vader and Luke sped down the trench with a hot proton torpedo. The starter decided it had enough right in the middle of all this for it's own reasons. Probably the same as I have toward many things - age and ennui. Fortunately there is an excellent alternator and starter rebuild place local to me.

All of that was corrected and it still ran like crap. Turned out to be an $10 p.o.s called a 'power valve' that got blown with the backfiring. There is a test for it while the car is running and it passed. I rebuilt the carburetor myself two winters ago and it's clean as a whistle. Process of elimination caused me to pull it a second time and change that valve - test passed or not. So I got it running perfectly again, has a nice predatory lope to it. Washed it, backed it in the garage and have had enough of it for a while. I still have to get it in for an alignment and safety inspection but this has been a case of 'too much of a good thing' for me and it must lie fallow for a while.

Some would laugh if you included a '69 Corvette in a list of 'fast cars' and I wouldn't argue. But I would take you for a ride and you would have one big s**t eating grin plastered on your face afterward
