You guys may think I'm joking about this issue, but really I'm genuinely asking a question about the times and What's okay and what's not okay.

Lately, I've hit a phase in my life where It seemed like everything was all downhill, I was beginning to put on weight, and with my heart condition as it is, It's just Honestly deadly for me to be overweight. So, Rather than be depressed about the issue and Cry into some pillow as some people would, I saw this as a chance, I've literally been on a perfect diet, Very few carbs, High protein no sugars, Diet sodas. And Yeah, It's working.

I've never been a vain person, but I've noticed in my life most people are very vain. If I'm twenty pounds overweight and out of shape, Some people will look at me, Like im just blocking their view of nature, But When I'm in shape, I turn heads get waves and women even stop on the side of the road to speak to me.

To be honest It pisses me off because. I think people should like me for who I am not how I look, But, That's the way the world plays ball I guess. Anyway.

Side note, No, I'm not here to brag, I'm not here to say I'm sexy or get some sort of Ego boost If you think that, quite honestly, Work as Hard as I've been working and see if you aren't proud of the results... This has been ongoing for two months, It's been hard And The diet alone is torturous, The exercises part gets easier as time goes by. I'm proud of the progress I've made and To be Honest without bragging. I'm not a bad looking old dude. So, If people think That's Vain or egotistical of me, I really don't care, I've worked really hard for this and I'm proud.

No, My Question is, All this time out in the sun, I've gotten A really Really Dark tan. You wouldn't recognize me as a white person, It's very Dark. And My question is legitimate, Could this be considered Blackface? Could some Dumbass accuse me of Blackface because I have a really dark tan? That's what I'm worried about. I don't want that shit happening. What Do you think? Could someone call me racist, Just for getting so much sun that the tan made me look like I was a different race? How do blackface accusations work?

Just curious, SP.

I don't think anyone would call you a blackface. Justin Trudeau is currently dealing with a blackface issue. About 25 minutes ago I was trying to find something you wrote that the sun creates pixels and I presume that happened on AH. So, I guess people could call you pixelface.

Maybe a majority of the population is having problems with short term memory. It could be orchestrated to mentally disarm us. An activity to help people with Alzheimer's is to have them make lots of decisions like shopping or playing video games.

You hit on something there, yes, Normally I would say the FDA has something to do with this, But, I think the culprit is modern culture, With tablets and internet and smart devices on every arm and in every hand, people don't feel a need to commit information to memory as they once did. Yeah, Technology is slowly or rather quickly mentally disarming us.

It's even changed the way people seem to think. No names, but I have a friend, Who is in very poor health. He's about seven years younger than me, But He's allowed his health to become out of control, It's confirmed he has diabetes And Nerve damage in his back and legs, And now, they have found out he has something called a fatty liver. "I don't actually know what a Fatty liver is" But it doesn't sound healthy. I try to get him to get out walking and exercising with me, He simply refuses, He says, He would but his Back is just in too poor a condition to handle the movement. 36 is too young to just give up. But I can't make him do these things, In truth, he's pissed off at me right now, Because With me being more active, That's did wonders for my energy and I come off like a happy chirpy morning person, And he can't stand that.

:(

And in truth, I haven't been on this health kick for terribly long, So he's not convinced it will stick anyway. But, I've tried negotiating with him, saying things like, Even if this health kick isn't permanent, It's still healthy to do and worth the effort. I can't even get him to stop with all the mountain dews. And In fairness, It's not my place to thrust my recent lifestyle on the man. I just, I know he could be doing so much better, It's like he doesn't even want to try. It makes me sad. :(

What Jeff Rense said about education is memorize and forget. I bet engineers and scientists have to look up a lot of information they supposedly learned in college. You can't fix people. There's exercises he can do while sitting in a chair.

I've tried and I would do those exercises with him, But I think part of its depression, "Today is never the day" If I can ever get him motivated, It would so go down. It's been forever since I curled free weights. I'd love to do that :D

And yes, I have to look subjects up and read about them shortly before I speak about them here. Multiple reasons, And I could claim It's because I didn't want to be wrong and that's a small part of it, The larger part of it is, I have forgotten a great deal of it and need refresher courses on entire subjects. it's sad but true.

Would he be willing to go to a gym and get on a treadmill or just go for a hike?

I want to think that he would. But thus far, I've only been able to get him out of the house if we are riding somewhere in a car.

I won't say he won't, but I've been trying for a while. Hope is fleeting. And I can tell, It's not laziness. It's all depression, And I know that's hard to fix, but I've learned, A stronger healthier body tends to be less depressed, It would even help that, but getting over that initial hump can be difficult :(

Why not give him a simple piece of exercise equipment you aren't using?

That's not a bad idea, I never use the treadmill anymore, To be honest, I've learned over my time of using it that a treadmill just doesn't fully substitute for a real walk, It's just somehow not the same thing. But it was a piece of equipment that got me yearning for even better health and lead to this change, if he will take it and use it, I will give him my treadmill. That's a really good idea brother :D

I have had this conversation with a morbidly obese friend more than once.

All treadmills become clothes racks eventually. That's why I belong to a gym - let all that clutter up their place.

No, he won't just take a walk. Has a long list of excuses. I keep track of what I walk and 6-8 miles per day on my old busted feet are normal.

People have to want to help themselves first.

Bunch of snowflakes some people are these days, whining about almost anything, I swear some of these people should have been given a good spanking when they were younger, but some could use a belt across their arse even as 30 somethings...

I have tried for three years to get my retired uncle to take a walk regularly, he drinks alcohol from morning until evening and only wants to sit in his dining room chair all day drinking, smoking, and playing music on his phone...He will sit there until his semi retired neighbor gets off work at 12 noon, then that same neighbor will come over to his house and join him...Both will sit and talk amongst themselves through the afternoon...My uncle cannot walk well, he's 66yo and frail from years of drinking, he used to walk fine until he retired and proceeded to sit and drink for years...His sister, my Aunt, takes him to the grocery once a week, that's all the walking he will do besides whatever he does in the house...I visit him regular to check up on him, some days I can't get him to walk out to the mailbox to get his mail, he asks me to do it and when I tell him to walk with me he refuses...

"I'll be right here in my chair when you get back in", he'll say lol...

My Grandpa was exactly like that, He was also a moonshiner, Yeah, You couldn't pull him out of his garage, And all he ever did was sit there making moonshine, So you know he was drinking it too lol, Some people are stubborn, They simply won't change their ways, My motivation has been Looking around I'm 42, A sizable number of my classmates didn't even make it this far, and as I look out at my family and friends, A lot of them are sick, It's one illness or another. To me, It doesn't seem like a bad idea to try to stay healthy, Cause only the lucky ones even make it to 66, Most people think they are guaranteed to make it till their sixties. But if you look at the real numbers, Only the lucky ones do, Most really don't either some accident or sickness or just random occurrences, but a lot of people never make it that far, And I'm gonna try my best, And Even if I don't make it that far, The exercise gave me the energy to have a better quality of life, it's worth it no matter how one rationalizes it. I'll die someday, but not without a fight. :cool8:

Fratty and out of touch.
I'm 56 and I just had my physical a few months ago. All my tests were fine. I need to get a colonoscopy soon due to my age.

Like pigfarmer, my secret to good health is I walk every day and try to eat as healthy as possible. I've never belonged to a gym. I never do marathons or iron man competitions or any of that crap.

I have a basic safety net healthcare plan with high out-of-pocket costs just in case I get in an accident or have an unforeseen illness like cancer.

What always amazes me is how many people do not have healthcare even though Medicaid and Obamacare are available. Never mind the fact that we're legally required to have it in the US. Even if you're young and healthy, it's brainless to try to do without healthcare.

Don't fall for the same nightmare I did, They gave me a Virtual colonoscopy, Don't fall for it, It's a trap. It's just a colonoscopy while you are awake. It's a nightmare, Tell them you want a regular colonoscopy, Don't fall for the hype. It's a trap. :(

It isn't but doesn't have to be. For example you can get really good at a certain exercise like curls on a plate loaded or cable machine. Then grab a free weight steel curl bar and go sit at a preacher bench. Ooooof. That requires far more involvement of other muscles to control it you get a different benefit from it. The machines allow you to isolate specific muscle groups. Great for therapy and injury recovery. Something I am working on right now as my shoulders seem to have stopped working.

The treadmill won't be the same as a walk but you could still work up a decent head of steam on it.
