THE ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE

I missed the vorlons part.....who are they?....some fictional 3 eyed ETs.....:wondering:
I assumed everyone here would know them....they were the super advanced aliens in the tv show Babylon 5.
That was one of their cryptic sayings they often shared with the Captain of Babylon 5 space station.

I never watched that one......didn't watch deep space 9 either.

It was an interesting sci-fi show...it had some grit and edge to it with a unique portrayal of aliens and humans. Deep Space 9 being a Star Trek spin off had that slick veneer that all the Trek shows had but it was still pretty good.

I was never able to get into Star Trek Voyager either.

Voyager was a bit boring at times but I found Deep Space 9 to be intriguing on several levels. They had an interesting cast with a shape shifter and the theme of traveling through a stationary wormhole near them as well as an alien planet near the station led to some good story lines.

I guess I couldn't get past the first couple episodes.....but then I likely had something else going on then.

I think dej has found a home at another forum where some like minded people hang out. since he seems to have left this 'absence of evidence' thread.

Reviving the main idea perhaps he's right in that there seems to be a distinct absence of hard objective evidence for aliens and ufos as their vehicles.
Is anecdotal material useful and can it help us to discover any truths in the ufo arena?

I noticed that.... I'm a secret lurker there with another name ever since 2004...

I like reading and listening to all different views about a topic... gives me something to think about even if I don't believe in any of it... Probably wouldn't change my mind, I'm way too tenacious for that to happen lol, but there's always the chance to be able to see something in a way I didn't before... I call that adding extra points towards lateral thinking... 'That's based on the book, 'I Am Right, You Are Wrong' by Edward de Bono...

In this book Dr Edward de Bono, who is well known worldwide for his origination of lateral thinking, puts forward a direct challenge to what he calls the 'rock logic' of Western thought. Rock logic is based on rigid categories, absolutes, argument and adversarial point scoring. Edward de Bono believes that this thinking cannot solve our problems. Instead of rock logic, he proposes the water logic of perception. Drawing on our understanding of the brain as a self-organizing information system, Dr de Bono shows that perception is the key to more constructive thinking and creativity. Here, in this brilliantly argued assault on outmoded thought patterns, he calls for nothing less than a New Renaissance.

Isn't the UFO arena a completely human view, and at best, isn't it ALL anecdotal?

But if you believe, isn't it more likely you'll see a UFO?

What do you mean by 'human view'?
Anecdotal material is by far the main source of info for the ufo phenom .....and that's the problem for many skeptics.
I'm a skeptic by definition but I don't dismiss all anecdotal material.....I think people do indeed have strange experiences. I'm not sure what they all are and I don't think we should jump to the conclusion, which many ufo fans do, that they are aliens from outer space. While that's a possibility for some it certainly doesn't explain many cases imho.

Well...I'm skeptical but open minded even though many don't see that. The skeptics on that other place are hard core science materialists...they accept nothing other than cold hard facts and regarding this topic I had argued with them saying that we shouldn't automatically dismiss all tales and look into some to see where it takes us. They w eren't having any and said that all tales are worthless. If you think I'm hard on stories you should see how arrogant and closed minded thye are.
They almost make me look like a believer. :D

I've noticed that many people automatically think all UFOs are ET in nature.....when by definition they are simply unidentified objects. What is a UFO to some won't be a UFO to some.

By Human View, I meant that we tend to project human qualities on things... including UFO's... when they are often just inanimate objects like balloons, or chineese lanterns.

Some deserve to be called UFOs, and some definately behave strangely. And in those cases, it is easy to project human elements, such as "It must be piloted by an intelligent being".

Personally, I usually don't assume a UFO is of alien origin... but the one in iceland was obviously not a normal aircraft, and there was a feeling of a presence...
I didnt really believe they would talk to me the next eay... it was a joke between me and the other guy on the bus...

I know it is easy to dismiss my testimony, but I will not back down from my story.

I am here because I know we are in contact with real beings, not of this world...
I want people to think about it when they bump into someone at the coffee shop, that they may be meeting someone who is not really from here...

I know this will become obvious and evident someday.... and we will have all the proof we need...

But really, all people need to do is be open to that possibility, to be bold enough to recognise we are not alone... you dont need to call them aliens... we could just call them visitors...

Personally I do believe that there are intelligent races of ETs living beyond our solar system......some may even be able to travel between universes, not just between stars or galaxies.

What I have a problem with is all the fuzzy white spots, aircraft in landing or take off patterns or "events" that have become almost religious in nature. Perhaps some day they'll land and present themselves to us.....but I hope its a ways away from happening. If it happens sooner rather than later they may come to save the earth.....and that might not be good for us.

To me all of the events help answer my questions.....and that is what we should all be doing. Its a waste of time to expect others to do it for you.....so waiting for ETs to land or for some alleged information to be disclosed is pointless. Using our own independent thought to answer our own questions is best.....the question is how many want to find their own answers and put in the work.
