Bizarre Reality Shifts - The Mandela Effect

High Priestess
there was a day not to long ago I swear both rikki and I heard reports that the United states had left south Korea and there were concerns that the north was about to attack.
our twins heard no such reports. when I realised it was not happening i was confused even now I swear we both heard it on the radio at least 3 times.
I was in the car with my husband listening to the report. I said "Even Trump is not that stupid"

I recall hearing FDR referred to as Franklin Dalenar Roosevelt. I recall watching this old show listen to how his name is said!

It's at about 5:55. I hear Delano. Please tell me Fala is still Fala and not Falafel or something .... :)

I always thought 'Billy Don't Be a Hero' by Paper Lace was 'Felix Don't Be a Weirdo'. Dunno why. My brother and I still laugh over that - he had it on an 8-track tape and I remember listening to it while we cruised in his shag carpet '70s love van. Don't think it was The Mengele Effect, I think I was just a kid not paying attention.

There is a New York City disc jockey named Vin Scelsa. He was pretty famous back in the day, as in the 70s and 80s I think. He gets cranky when people call him Vince, complaining that people "mis-hear" his name when he says it on the air. Scelsa (at least in this case) is pronounced Skelsa. Vin Skelsa sounds an awful lot like Vince Kelsa. Try saying them out loud. I'm sure there would be a lot less confusion about FDR's middle name if his last name had been something like Jefferson.

Trapped in a service truck for years. I used to listen to Imus in the Morning, then it was Soupy Sales mid-day and then Howard Stern in afternoon drive time on WNBC. Lesbian amputee dial-a-date - ahhh, the classics. Opie & Anthony was great before they imploded and I remember Sean Hannity as a new voice on the '50000 watt blowtorch of Freedom'
Jesus, he won't go away .....

After listening to the audio several times I heard Dorothy Killgalan say Deleno. J.C Daily at first I thought Delenar. But after a few times I heard Deleno.

Eleanor Roosevelt was very famous and we've all heard a lot about her. Delano is an unusual name that sounds an awful lot like Eleanor. Both were usually followed immediately by Roosevelt for many years, at least until Eleanor Rigby appeared in the news. That's a small bit of confusion, and of a very common type.

That's probably it. Genuinely caught me by surprise that anyone thought differently.

So then (playing devil's advocate) this must be proof the matrix has changed leaving no trace of the original Delanor spelling in history except for the memories of a few people like Fruit Loops and Looney Tunes...

Fruit Loops and Looney Tunes...

If Delanar and his dog Falafel have been Corrected then who am I to argue?

OK, I'll bite. What's up with two of my favorite Saturday morning things? Tucan Larry? Bugs Woodchuck?

Froot Loops was apparently spelled as Fruit Loops previously but allegedly the timeline has changed...

Current: Froot Loops

This one appears to keep changing!

Wikipedia (currently) says the popular Kelloggs breakfast cereal was launched in 1962 as "Froot Loops".

Several people have seen references to "Fruit Loops" and there is some evidence of this on the web. This could be explained by Kelloggs themselves changing the branding so the "OO" is styled in the form of the cereal if it was the other way round, but that's not the direction it went - the "OO" was supposed to always have been there, and the "Fruit" spelling the one it changed to, for many people.

Things gets stranger when reports come in of it changing back again!

Many question the spelling of Looney Tunes or is it Looney Toons?...

Many people have raised the issue of “Looney Toons” as an alternate memory and reported seeing “Looney Tunes” changed to “Looney Toons” on many websites. One week it would be spelled “Looney Toons” and the following week it would revert back to “Looney Tunes”. Normally it would be dismissed as a brief and localized issue such as a print media error or a typo in a digital media listing but it has cropped up too many times to count.

Varying spellings and pronunciations are nothing new. With stories and songs being shares across cultures and languages, it's bound to happen. Happens all the time. Has no doubt happened since stories first were shared. For the last 150 years or so, new methods of communication have only increased the borrowings. The entry at the Wiki link there actually covers the variations well. No mysterious "alterations" needed for the explanation. Most of us here grew up hearing about "Donner and Blitzen".

My favorite misheard song lyric (or mondegreen) is this one:

Ol' John Prine is still performing in spite of major health problems. I don't want to live in a timeline where he is absent.

There are many ways to represent the surface of a sphere on a flat map. These are usually referred to as "projections". Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. All will have some amount of distortion, but some, like the one you posted, greatly exaggerate apparent land area the farther you go from the equator. That's why Canada looks so huge, for example.

Have a look at a globe.

Here are some images of various types of projections. It's an interesting subject, full of history and brilliant solutions to the problems of navigation.

Here is a good page explaining the basics.

Rich Uncle Pennybags of Monopoly fame never wore a monocle.

go find one anymore :)

saw a bit of Close Encounters while surfing - the scene where they figure out it's coordinates and have to break into an important someone's office to swipe the giant metal globe ....
That's one of my favorite scenes in the movie. I was a teenager when it came out (I think) but later had some experiences with ad-hoc groups much like that, and it's easy to imagine something like that happening just as it was shown.
