Got the classic Western Electric 1970 500 rotary dial wall set still in daily use. Harvest Gold - painted the kitchen '70s yellow to match it. My great-nephew was here for a visit (about 10 at the time) and I realized on day three that he had been staring at the thing knowing it was a phone but had no idea what to make of it. The look on his face when I explained what to do when you screw up a digit was priceless. Was very skeptical about the 'that's where the '
dial a number' thing comes from'
The WE G1 handset was perfectly engineered for the human head. Actually comfortable. It's predecessor and everything else that followed it was definitely not. A shame it's gone by the way side. It was also perfectly engineered to smash the bases of telephones and other things within reach
