Prudent or maybe just crappy missiles. Several of them failed. I doubt it was intentional and bet they would have preferred to kill as many as they could. Remember that errant Scud that wiped out a barracks in Saudi Arabia and killed a couple of hundred service men and women? Those things are unguided about on par with a V2.

Also, remember all the oil well fires? I can't find a link to what I'm talking about but there was part of a refinery leaking into the Persian Gulf. There were pictures from orbit showing the blight. F-111 precision strike took out some valve that stopped it. Wow. That was almost 20 years ago and those planes far older. Defense contractors haven't been idle and ours hit what they're pointed at. Today's announcement will probably include some sort of reminder.

I did see supposed footage of a crater I could have dug in under a minute as being one of the missiles that missed the target. Very unimpressive and somewhat telling.

I may be wrong but I believe they were at the mats praying to Allah that no lives are lost, it's a new one I know but yeah I think it was a pretty pathetic attempt to cause damage and quite deliberately so.

I do remember the errant scud and there used to be a pub in Hackney London named after it. The flying scud it was called, had the typical hanging picture of a scud missile flying down a street.

I think we would all be amazed at how precise things are now, the Iranian regime is for sure.

American Officials Say Intelligence Points To Iran Shooting Down Ukrainian Airliner

U.S. officials say they are "confident" in intelligence that an Iranian surface-to-air missile brought down an airliner belonging to Ukraine International Airlines. Ukrainian investigators had already said that they were considering this possibility as they explore the incident, which followed a recent and unprecedented Iranian missile strike targeting U.S. forces in Iraq. This all comes as Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which carried out the strikes on targets in Iraq, says that it was on high alert for an immediate American counter-attack and was prepared for an ensuing conflict that might have lasted days or weeks.

Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752, a Boeing 737-800, crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport at approximately 6:12 AM local time on Jan. 8, 2020. The flight was heading to the Ukranian capital Kyiv and had 176 crew and passengers on board, all of whom died in the subsequent crash. Video footage that subsequently emerged showed the plane engulfed in a fireball before it hit the ground. The incident occurred hours after the Iranian missile strikes aimed at American troops in Iraq first began.

Newsweek was among the first to report that U.S. defense and intelligence officials, as well as an Iraqi official, had told them that they also believe an Iranian surface-to-air missile brought down the 737. CBS News and other outlets have now also reported that U.S. officials believe this is what happened, based on various sources of intelligence.

So Iran thought that passenger plane was a US bomber and they fired two missiles at the plane with at least one of them hitting the plane killing all those people...

Has the cover-up begun? Iran CLEARS debris from plane crash site with bulldozers before investigators even arrive after condemning 'big US lie' they shot the jet down and insisting Tehran will 'handle' black box data

Bulldozers (pictured above at the crash site just hours after the plane came down) have removed the debris of the Boeing 737 from the crash site near Tehran before Ukrainian investigators have even arrived, sparking fears of a cover-up - with the site now at the mercy of scavengers. Tehran says it is 'opening' the plane's black boxes (one of which is pictured bottom) today but has indicated it will not allow the US government to analyse their contents.

Washington and its allies believe that the plane was shot down by two Iranian missiles which were launched just minutes after the airliner took off. Footage which emerged last night showed the Ukraine International Airlines jet exploding in mid-air after it was hit, killing all 176 people on board. Iran, which claims the crash was caused by a technical failure, has accused the West of 'psychological warfare' as it denied the claims today.

Another Fine Mess.

A couple of scattered thoughts. America faces "another Vietnam" if it does not leave the Middle East, aide to Iran's supreme leader warns

Vietnam has just as many, probably more, excellent reasons to hate our guts. They've made public statements in support of the Iranian Revolution in the past, and their government is hardly warm and fuzzy. The Shah fell about 5 years after we pulled out of SE Asia. Yet in roughly the same period of time since look at how the relationship has developed between mortal enemies:

The Evolution of U.S.–Vietnam Ties

Vietnam has nothing to boast about when it comes to human rights or personal freedom, but they are a practical lot and in their own self interest have a market economy and have managed to put aside the red hot enmity. They've become a trading partner who has certainly earned the right to sneer at US behavior while quietly becoming a trading partner.

Granted the Middle East is a different story but there are some broad parallels - in short, why can the Vietnamese get their shit together like nobody in the Middle East can seem to? Crazy religious zealots with their hands on power all over the region, some shooting at us and some buying everything we make to shoot at each other with. Add Israel and oil and money and it makes me wish the whole area was filled with that clumping type of catbox sand so we could just scoop it all away easily.

And no doubt it's a cultural thing, but have you noticed that when we receive lectures about our Evil and are threatened with torment it's always with that damned annoying finger wag? I usually wag back with a different finger.

It is completely Iran's fault, they chose to attack at that time and obviously they didn't have the technology to tell the difference between a passenger jet and a bomber and its their missiles not ours...They push the button the fire those missiles, the US strike on the general is irrelevant to this tragedy, putting a label of retaliatory or claiming cause and effect doesn't shift blame automatically, they are fully responsible for that disaster...

Shifting blame in this way is also a logical fallacy...

Fessing up from that part of the world is a new one on me and a sure indicator that they panicked. This happened after they light the touch paper and ran.

Luck has played a huge hand for the Iranians, the Irish will be looking over their shoulder. Maybe mass prayer facing the same way really does work because either incident could have taken one American life and that happened to be where your president drew the line.

Or on both counts they played it like pros, deliberate miss with a pre warned target and the passenger list for that flight showing no Americans on board. Maybe claiming the Americans got over adventurous and accidentally shot it down but I lean to luck being on their side with just a wiff of stink to make me wonder.

Either way which religion took most casualties ?

Iranian national 'armed with a machete, ax and knives and carrying $22,000 in cash' is arrested just four miles from Mar-a-Lago - days after Tehran put an $80million bounty on Donald Trump's head

The suspect, Masoud Yareioeill Zoleh (pictured left and right being arrested), was identified by his passport while being taken into custody on Flagler Memorial Bridge on Friday morning. He had in his possession $22,000 in U.S. currency, a machete and a pick ax, in addition to the knives. Zoleh was arrested by three Palm Beach Police officers and two plainclothes officers who were reportedly from a different department. It comes days after Iranian officials offered an $80 million bounty for the murder of President Donald Trump. The Flagler Memorial Bridge is about four miles from Trump's Mar-a-Lago club, but the president is currently at the White House in Washington DC. Trump recently spent the holidays at Mar-a-Lago, and it is possible that he may return as soon as next weekend.

@nivek Oh, can we have anther wager / survey.

Few months back Israeli stealth planes flew into Iran, took few selfies and safely came back home. So, I would like to predict this:

1) tits for tats with military force is going to continue at subdued rate, like once per every 3 months, while Trump is president.
2) this is my wager: in a course of low key slap exchange a wing of US F-35 stealth planes will fly into Iran and hit a high value military target with next 12 months.

I had to look this one up about multiple polls in a thread, aparrently its not an option for Xenforo, its not available in their 2.1 version, which we are planning our upgrade to that newest version...I have seen requests for such an add-on to the software but nothing released for that feature yet...I will also send a request for an add-on on their customer feedback form and post it in their forum, see what happens...

And ... things are cooling really fast. Oil price fell another $2.0 since yesterday, and $5.0 off the peak at $71.0. Please note, that Trump hasn't ordered any new Navy carriers to move to Persian Gulf.

Oil prices recede after rise on Iraq missile attacks

This should be noted, although we did send troops to the middle east I still think its true that no naval vessels have been sent to the Persian Gulf, no extra vessels at all...I looked around online and searched, couldn't find anything that says otherwise...

Protesters in Tehran clash with riot police as they demand the Ayatollah RESIGNS and call for regime change after Iran finally admits to shooting down jet and killing 176 people

Untitled.png

Angry crowds gathered on Saturday night chanting 'death to liars' and calling for the country's supreme leader to step down over the tragic military blunder, video from the scene shows. What began as mournful vigils for Iranian lives lost on the flight quickly turned to outrage and protest against the regime, and riot police quickly responded with tear gas in an attempt to break up the protests. Ukrainian Airlines Flight 752 was carrying 176 people, at least 130 of them Iranian citizens, when it was shot down by hapless Iranian Revolutionary Guard air defense forces shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8.

Britain's ambassador to Iran is ARRESTED for 'inciting' protesters in Tehran during clashes with riot police

UK ambassador to Iran Rob Macaire has reportedly been arrested during the protests in Tehran today, after photographing clashes calling for the Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei to resign. Angry crowds gathered tonight in at least four locations in Tehran, chanting 'death to liars' and calling for the country's supreme leader to step down over the tragic military blunder, video from the scene shows. Following a 'brief period' he was then released. The Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said: 'The arrest of our Ambassador in Tehran without grounds or explanation is a flagrant violation of international law. The Iranian government is at a cross-roads moment. 'It can continue its march towards pariah status with all the political and economic isolation that entails, or take steps to deescalate tensions and engage in a diplomatic path forwards.' The senior Foreign Office figure was appointed to the Ambassador role in April 2018, replacing Nicholas Hopton.

Justin Trudeau casts doubt on Iran's claim that shooting down of passenger jet was an 'accident' as he calls for full investigation and demands justice for families of 57 Canadian victims

Untitled.png

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cast doubt on Iran 's claim that it accidentally shot down a Ukrainian jetliner on Wednesday. Trudeau said the shoot-down of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 'is one of the issues that we certainly need better answers to,' during a news conference on Saturday. 'I am, of course, outraged and furious,' Trudeau said of the crash, adding that whether the tragedy was an accident or not still needs to be determined. Asked whether he was confident it was an accident, Trudeau replied: 'This is one of the issues that we certainly need better answers to. And that's why this first step of admission of responsibility is an important one by Iran but there are many other questions like that one that will need clear answers to in the coming days and weeks.'

We already had one for impeachment and it turned out to be well predictable.
