What has happened to hiring out contractors to do household projects? I have had issues with a couple of them lately. I needed the toilet and the bathroom flooring changed. When I got estimates one guy asked me where I purchased the toilet. When I told him, he said it was a good thing I didn’t buy it at Lowe’s or Home Depot. He wouldn’t do the work if I had purchased from either of those two places. Needless to say, he didn’t get the job.

I needed to have some ceiling tiles replaced in our family room. The guy I hired sent out two workmen I had my doubts about. When they showed up, I went upstairs to stay out of the way. I didn’t hear anyone working for a long period. They finally came upstairs and said they couldn’t do the job. Alarm bells started going off. They left and I went out in my garage. I heard them opening the door to the garage. I thought they were throwing something out in the garbage can out there.

It turns out I was missing a couple items I use on a regular basis. I called the contractor and told him his guys didn’t do a thing and I though they stole some items of mine. He stopped out and we had a discussion. The next day he arrived back with the stolen items in question. He said the one worker was in jail now. He still wanted to send someone else out but I said thanks but no thanks.

I now feel I have to keep a close eye on anyone that works for me. It is a sad state of affairs that you can’t trust anyone who is contracted out to do some household repairs.

This is why I just DIY.

Unfortunately I am unable to physically do these sort of projects on my own. These contractors have me by the short hairs.

Unfortunately there are a lot of bottom feeders out there - both contractors and homeowners.

You have to have enough meat on the bone to make it worthwhile to have a contract. I have a few guys that I've come to trust for things like tree removal, roof repair etc that I really don't want to do anymore.

You do small stuff for cash you have a problem getting paid. Usually isn't worth the bother.

I`m so tired of not knowing the truth about certain person in my childhood. If i did find out the truth it wouldn`t change the way i feel about them. The things they might`ve done was before or near my birth and didnt involve me so why do i even freakin care. maybe cause of the stigma that would go with it. I hope i can deal with it. if it ever comes. My memories haunt me, more so than any of the paranormal ufo bigfoot NDE stuff i`ve encountered through out my life. so why am i watchin prodigal son right now, its kinda like flashbacks with fire in the sky. Jeez just end it.. forgive me i just smoked some cotton candy

Yesterday I was given an offer to take over the position that I had been covering temporarily because of the previous manager getting fired...I would be transferring to another building and pass on my previous responsibilities to another...It comes with a nice wage increase as well and I accepted the position last night and went out for dinner and drinks with the owner afterwards...

I just arrived back home 20 minutes ago, the time is 2208, had a fairly easy day at work for being there about 10 hours...Then a friend needed a ride to the city of Charlotte which is about an hour and half drive on the highway one way, three hour round trip...He asked me to go back to Charlotte on Sunday and pick him back up and bring him back to his house a few miles from my house...His car got wrecked a couple weeks ago and he doesn't have transportation currently until his car is repaired...I have the weekend off work which is nice, but next weekend I have to work the whole weekend to help rebuild a few hydraulic cylinders...fun fun

Will your hours decrease because of the promotion?

My hours will fluctuate with spikes of longer daily hours as needed because this facility is sorely in need of structure and a sound plan and execution of that plan to get it operating as it should...I'm not going to overdue it or burn myself out, but some work needs of be done on non-production hours and days, so I'm spreading out that level of work over the next 6 months...So next weekend the rebuild work will consume the entire weekend for myself and 2 employees that work for me who volunteered and my boss...The next large project that needs to be accomplished during non-production hours I'm scheduling for early May...I don't mind 'some' extra hours over 40, 50 to 55 hours isn't a problem for me and I'm enjoying this work I took on...I could be a non-working manager and have all the employees do all the manual labor and programming and not get dirty so to speak, but I don't operate like that...I get right into things, get dirty and lead the projects by example, it's the best way to build a good team that work together well...I have 2nd and 3rd shift people I need to work with to get a feel of them and where their head is, so I'll also do some shift jumping and work through the shifts with them...All the while I'm making sure none of my team is overworked including myself, spring will be here soon too and I'll need my time to start my garden and grow it...I am planning a large garden this season with a large watermelon patch...Can't wait lol...

I've been working outside the house all day, was in my workshop until it warmed enough in the afternoon and tilled up my garden locations for spring...Had a busy day but stuff for me instead of my job which made it more enjoyable...
