I finally had to download Firefox browser because YouTube was just a blank screen. They had a warning message up for over a month stating they would no longer support IE. I really like it because it's modern, quick and easy to use. You have to agree to them using cookies in order to use it.
I just uninstalled the Firefox browser. On the first day over 10,000 cookies, trackers and other technologies were loaded onto my computer at about 1 GB. The next day it was around 8,000. That's hundreds of time greater than IE or Edge.

There are adjustments you can make in Firefox. First, click Options within the Tools drop-down tab. Then click Privacy & Security. You can then avail yourself of the following options.

You can select the Strict option under Enhanced Tracking Protection - It will still be possible for you to allow exceptions for specific sites.
Alternatively, if you have the patience, you can customize which trackers to block.

You can also check Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed under Cookies and Site Data
Again, if you have the patience you can manually designate which cookies to reject.

I don't work for Mozilla, but I read where you said you would be losing access to Youtube. If you find the adjustments I pointed out insufficient, then just forget about Firefox.

But maybe what you need is an anonymous browser, such as Tor. I've never used it, but I've heard it's very effective. If you decide to try it, let us know what you think of it.

I didn't know you could block them. I'll use Edge for now and look around for another one. I can still use YT with Edge. Thanks.

No hoarding in the Bronx! (So far.)
I just got back from the variety store across the street, and there was plenty of toilet paper at normal prices.
I didn't want to feed into a potential panic, and also wanted to maintain an optimistic outlook, so I bought only 4 rolls.

I fell asleep just before midnight last night as I was text communicating with a friend across the country...It wasn't that the conversation was boring or dull but because I was very tired from a busy work week and couldn't stay awake...

Went to town earlier this afternoon and stopped at Wal-Mart, seemed like half the town was there lol, but all was civil...I needed another bottle of Dr. Bronner's Hemp Almond Pure Castile Liquid Soap, the bottle in the shower was dangerously low lol...

Driving home the car starts to sound odd, looking I see the temperature gauge climbing fast, the car has an auto-shutoff to prevent permanent damage to the engine, but I didn't let it get that far...I pulled it over immediately out in the middle of nowhere 10 miles from home, I had water, 2 gallons in the trunk, popped the hood and steam everywhere...I told that Beroth mechanic it needed a water pump a few weeks back when I had the car in the shop, he insisted it was fine because he tested it and pressure tested the entire cooling system...That's nice nice but here I am possibly stuck, I let the car cool down just a bit, 20 minutes goes by, not one car passes me, not unusual for this road though, my cell phone works fine, got good signal, I was going to call for towing if I could get it home...I poured water back in and it drank both gallons, that's all I had, 10 miles to go to get home, I start up the car, sounds great again, the temp gauge sitting where it should be, but no time to waste, I can't push the car too hard to get home but I can't take my time either, it might overheat again quickly...Fortunately it's a 55 mph road and sort of flat, with hardly any cars in the road at the time, one just passed as I was getting back on the road, I get up to speed and set the cruise control...I saw the temp rise a little but made it home, made the call to Beroth telling them I'm bringing the car back Monday morning, fix it...

I received this email yesterday from my health insurance provider regarding the coronavirus pandemic...

Dear Member,

On behalf of everyone at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), I want to thank you for trusting us with your health care needs. There are a growing number of cases of COVID-19, or Coronavirus Disease 2019, in our state. Governor Cooper has declared a State of Emergency in North Carolina. It is likely that the virus will continue to spread, but there are steps that we can take together to protect our health and the health of our communities.

The health and wellbeing of our members is our top priority. That is why we are taking these five actions to help you prepare, stay healthy and get the care you need:

1. We are expanding virtual access to health care providers. Visits to doctors that previously required a face-to-face encounter can be performed virtually. These virtual visits must be medically necessary and meet qualifying criteria.

  • Please call your doctor's office and ask about virtual appointment options. If you are feeling unwell, call ahead before showing up in person. This will help prevent the spread of illness.
  • Rest assured knowing that we will cover telehealth services offered by in-network providers.
  • Many members have additional telehealth benefits included in their plans. Look for MDLIVE® or Teladoc® listed on the back of your member ID card and call for more information.
  • Note: Federal Employee Plan members can access telehealth services through Teladoc only.
2. We will waive early medication refill limits. This way, members can have the medicines they need on hand.
  • You can ask your doctor to order a 90-day prescription.
  • You can even ask for these to be mail-ordered for delivery to your home.
  • State and federal laws regarding prescription refills will still apply.
3. Testing for COVID-19 will not need prior approval. If you believe you need COVID-19 testing, call your doctor.
  • Be prepared to answer questions about your symptoms and if you may have been exposed to the virus.
4. BlueCrossNC.com/Coronavirus.

Thank you for choosing Blue Cross NC and for trusting us with the health of you and your loved ones.

I'm back to the point I can't watch YT videos. They suggest downloading Chrome, Firefox, Opera or Edge. I already have Edge. If I download it does that mean it's an upgraded version and somehow different from the one I have?

Yes usually the version downloaded is the latest version, there are some sites where you can find older versions of software, for instance this link for older versions of Firefox...

Have you tried Pale Moon browser?...

...
No, I haven't tried Pale Moon. It looks like Alphabet and other players rigged the game. When I downloaded then later uninstalled Firefox I had to agree to cookies and the volume was insane. It should be called the Totalitarian Net or the Cookie Monster's Crib.

Thermostat maybe? Sounds like it's time for a new car.

Thermostat maybe? Sounds like it's time for a new car.

They installed a new thermostat a few weeks back instead of the water pump stating that it was the source of the problem, apparently not unless this new thermostat also failed...

I use Firefox and throttle it right down - no cookies, no history, no home page, never save passwords, pay attention to extensions and plugins. I use it generally for banking and shopping. Works great for that but periodically there are things it won't do, which is why I throttle it in the first place.

I'm using Chrome right now pretty much 'right out of the box' for stuff like this and periodically clean it out with my A/V software's utilities. I don't have issues playing video or anything else. Chrome is also handy in the same way for the same reasons on my iPhone because Safari can be a little fiddly.

This is a handy free cleaner: Clean & speed up your slow PC | CCleaner Official Website

This is a really handy uninstaller: Uninstall Software, Remove Programs, Easy Delete - Revo Uninstaller Pro

I always use the 'custom install' and make sure I know exactly what I'm getting with freeware. I've also found that if you let them update they get jacked up with their own adware trying to get cheapskates like me to actually buy their products. If I think they're stale I just uninstall them and download a newer version.

Pale Moon didn't float my boat. I have an aversion to Edge for really no goof reason. Tried Tor for a while but I suspect there are implications for using it - a little paranoid. I guess that's why Tor's there in the first place ...
Beyond masking your general location, which I make no great secret of, I don't really have a need. Richard Doty does maybe, so I've heard.

I am heading home from the hospital this morning. I should be out the door around 10:30am. They say that you don’t get well in the hospital. It will be nice to finally get some rest without someone constantly picking and prodding you every half hour.

The good part is that I am out of the hospital now and I will need set up home care starting today. The unfortunate part is that I am having urinary tract problems. I didn’t have this before but now I need to see a urologist very soon.

You never know how much you miss your own home until you find yourself in a hospital for a week. For once getting discharged went smoothly. I made sure everyone signed off on my release beforehand. Hospitals are notorious for being inefficient. I sort of cracked the whip on whoever needed to sign me out of the hospital.

As an addendum, the hospital is not where I wanted to be with the Corona heading our way. One nurse told me that the hospital is days away from blocking visitors from entering to see other patients. When my wife came to drive me home this morning, the streets were desolate. Sunday morning in the capital would have people out walking and running or walking their pets. Nada.

It seems like a good time for a retiree to bunker down for awhile. We have a good amount of supplies so no problems there. My wife did see two women in the grocery store having a shouting match over paper towels. Get ready for more of those situations. Take care everyone.
