No you're not getting the picture. I went to a small fiberglass specialty shop to get respiratory protection for my mother and I (because there's usually nobody else there, and I've never seen a kid there in 25 years) - and while I was at the counter waiting for the salesman to get the respirators from the supply area in the back, a dumb redneck walked through the door behind me with his 3 yo daughter and they waited by the door, blocking the exit, as she began coughing violently nonstop for the next 8-10 minutes while my purchase was being processed. She was obviously sick, and had obviously been hacking her lungs out all day, everywhere they went - and her idiot and/or sociopath father hadn't even taught her about covering her mouth. So about every 20 seconds she would tilt her head back and violently cough in whatever direction she was facing at the time, like a fountain of disease spraying the entire shop.

And unfortunately it was a very dry cough - the most common symptom among COVID-19 victims.
I see what you are getting at now, It's where I am kind of buzzed and overlooked the context somehow. There are two kinds of stupid in the world, The Negligent stupid, And The ones who Can't really help it. It's important to distinguish the two, I'm not a fan of stupidity, I used to stamp it out with little to no regard, Which still isn't a bad practice because sometimes people can learn. In such a case as this though, Yeah, Secretly, I don't speak about this much, But, I'm not a fan of rednecks. The reason for this is, generally, they tend to be ignorant, When is the last time anyone saw a Rednneck physician? They embody the true definition of ignorant. That is a person who willfully disregards knowledge and information, from misguided pride or even vanity.

No, I agree with you, I'm trying to find a softer way to say, Some people are handicapped, I give those people a pass. But rednecks, The reason I have issues with them is, They are the literal embodiment of the uneducated and even seem to be proud of it.

This is one of the few times, I will ever talk smack about a redneck, It's not a popular subject to bash a redneck. But yes, The Redneck mentality is a form of stupidity that deserves scorn. I completely agree.

I actually didn't have a lot of friends in school growing up, Being in southern Kentucky. The popular chat was Deer Hunting, Fishing, 4wheeler Riding and Mudding. I could mention something to them about Mr. Wizard, or Bill Nye or science, And they would look at me like I had herpes or something. I never could stand a red neck. That actually plays a small part in why I am a hermit, There is no shortage of them here in Ky.

High grade vape juice keeps it at bay ? Wow man, it sends me head long in to one.

Nice pinch of rez on the other hand can mellow me.

Stirling thread for info by the way Thomas and a service to have such a dedicated intellect on the job.
I can't help it, I suppose I've smoked so much for so long, Even the most powerful stuff on the planet simply sedates me.

As for the me and Rednecks issue. I suppose nobody's perfect. I realize If I were a more tolerant person, I would probably be Zen with redneck people. Growing up around them, This is just my personal experience.

rednecks, out of pride or misjudgment, Are never wrong, Yet people mistake them as harmless, I can testify, Redneck people are some of the harshest most judgmental people on planet earth and their currency is scorn.

however, It's a subject I normally don't speak about, I am torn, We don't make fun of people who have very little money, So is it fair to make lite of people with very little intellect?

The whole topic only highlights my own flaws. Truly.

We all have our personal thoughts on what we see as lower grade people and it is a tough one to see that it's no one's fault. Its all about how you were brought up to behave and that girl and her father don't know the difference.

Some just don't know and then there are those that don't know they don't know.

No it's not fair but it is just in a fleeting sense.

How very true. A person, Such as myself can make any assumption of someone else, Yet, there is always someone out there that can make the exact same assumption of me. It is truly a fleeting thing.

You know, I've always said this, But it still holds true, Your wisdom is on another level entirely Pepe.

I understand your point, because like an idiot I'm using my real name at an online forum. But dude - you're totally anonymous, so how is it risky to say stuff under an anonymous handle?

Share or don't share whatever you want; I just don't see how anything you might say here could come back to haunt you.

Hundreds of New York National Guard members respond to COVID-19 > National Guard > Guard News - The National Guard

Hundreds of New York National Guard members respond to COVID-19 By New York National Guard | March 18, 2020

LATHAM, N.Y. – A week into a mission to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the New York National Guard had 900 personnel on duty from Long Island to New York City to the Albany area March 17.

New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are providing logistical and administrative support to state and local governments; staffing two state call centers handling questions from the public; assisting at three drive-thru COVID-19 testing stations; cleaning public buildings in New Rochelle; warehousing and delivering bulk supplies of New York State sanitizer to local governments; and helping the New Rochelle school district deliver meals to students not in school.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo declared a state of emergency March 7, which allowed the state to move more rapidly to assist local governments in dealing with the disease.

On March 10, the governor directed Army Maj. Gen. Ray Shields, the adjutant general of New York, to deploy troops to assist local officials and residents in New Rochelle as the state established a containment zone to control the COVID-19 virus in the small city just north of New York City.

"New Rochelle at this point is probably the largest cluster in the United States of these cases and it is a significant issue," the governor said in a press release.

"The numbers have been going up, the numbers continue to go up, the numbers are going up unabated and we do need a special public health strategy for New Rochelle," he said. "What we are going to do is focus on an area concentric circle around the sites of the majority of the cases in New Rochelle."

Schools and places of worship in a zone centered on New Rochelle closed to contain the spread of the virus.

The New York National Guard initially mobilized 300 Soldiers and Airmen, along with members of the New York Naval Militia and the New York Guard, the state defense force, to support the effort.

On March 12, the support effort began with Guard Soldiers and Airmen distributing food bags prepared at Feeding Westchester, the regional food pantry in the county.

The primary concern was that schoolchildren relying on low-cost or free breakfast and lunch at school would miss meals.

Distribution points were established at local community centers. Food was passed out to school families and other residents who were not able to get food because of the situation.

"We're here to show them we will do anything we can to help them out," said Army Sgt. Corey Smith, a member of the 1156th Engineer Company, who was in charge at one site.

"The community is actually extremely happy that we are here," he added. While some people might be concerned about working in the area, his troops were not, Smith said.

"None of our Soldiers here are scared," Smith said. "We are just here to hand out food and make sure everybody feels comfortable and safe."

The arrival of the National Guard in New Rochelle reduced fears among residents, said Frank Giordano, a member of the Mamaroneck Department of Sanitation, as he helped unload hand sanitizer from a National Guard team March 13.

"I know I feel safer seeing the Guard here," Giordano said. "It's good; good just knowing you're here."

New York National Guard Soldiers staffed a call center established by the Department of Health at the Hudson Valley Transportation Center in Hawthorne.

The Soldiers' mission is to take calls from residents seeking information and follow a script to help answer their questions or pass them along to a medical professional. A second call center in Rotterdam was established to handle calls and staffed by New York National Guard personnel.

On March 16, officials monitoring the call centers reported that New York National Guard personnel and state employees handled 13,775 calls.

Sanitizer manufactured at a Department of Correctional and Custodial Services facility north of Albany is being shipped into the Hudson Valley for use by individuals and on surfaces.

Bulk deliveries are being received at Camp Smith Training Site, the New York National Guard's facility near Peekskill. Boxes of the "NYS Clean" sanitizer are then delivered to local users by the Guard.

Camp Smith also served initially to house the troops deployed in the Hudson Valley. As the force grows, troops are also billeted in local hotels.

The governor also directed the Guard to assist localities in cleaning public spaces. So far, New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen cleaned critical surfaces in the New Rochelle City Hall and the Westchester County Jewish Community Center.

National Guard Army medics and Air Guard medical technicians are also helping collect samples at drive-thru testing locations. While medical personnel assist in sample collection, other Soldiers and Airmen assist in logistics tasks and traffic management.

Testing locations are running in Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties on Long Island and Rockland County, across the Hudson River from Westchester.

"We are here to screen the community to keep the community safe and try to prevent the spread of the virus," said Army Pfc. Class Justin Zammit, a medic in the 369th Sustainment Brigade.

Zammit was trained to assist in record-keeping at the testing location in Westchester County.

"I would say it is a scary situation. But we are here to serve," Zammit said. "That is what we signed up for. We're proud that we're allowed to be here in the community and help everyone out here."

Initially, the New York National Guard operated with a task force based at Camp Smith Training Site.

To staff testing sites on Long Island, the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing set up their task force headquarters at Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach.

The 109th Airlift Wing, based at Stratton Air National Guard Base near Schenectady, established a task force headquarters to handle missions that might arise in the Albany area.

In a message to leaders, troops and civilian employees, Shields, the adjutant general of New York, emphasized the need for all parts of the force to work together and support state efforts.

"This crisis is a true crisis," Shields said. "I believe the fight against COVID-19 will exceed what we did in response to the attacks of 11 September 2001 and our response to Super Storm Sandy. This is that serious."

Good book. A teacher handed it mo me in the 8th grade and it made an impression. Global plague, man survives because he's in an isolated cabin suffering a snakebite. No zombies.

Thank you pepe - I've seen lots of posts on social media and articles shared about this horrible virus on the internet, but not nearly enough practical info to help people combat it and get through this without getting infected. I'll keep sharing the useful tips I can find so that hopefully none of us here will have to go through the hell of contracting this agonizing disease.

Honestly I have some redneck friends who are very dear to me; by no means do I cast judgement on rednecks in general. I may disagree with many of their stances, but they often see through the BS of the corporate news media too - I guess everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I'm just intensely outraged that after weeks of meticulous precautions and costly expenses struggling to protect myself and my loved ones, all it took to flush that effort down the toilet and compromise the safety of inner circle was one POS with a pathological disregard for the safety of everyone around him. But it could've been any kind of person, because there are ignorant jagoffs in all walks of life.
It's why I went into a long explanation, At the end of the day, I could try to walk it back. But someone could search my life out in its entirety. I've never been able to really, What's the right word, Connect? with them? ... It's complicated. But then, When it comes to me, Social interaction is something I've always avoided. It's not just rednecks, I've found, people, in general, to be unpredictable, I think my least favorite trait of pretty much any part of society is when someone just loses their temper and snaps. I've seen that so many times in public.

I think It's more than just rednecks, I think Truly. I'm just not a people person.

To be fair though, I operate on this logic. When someone, dislikes most people. Clearly the problem is that person.
So, I'm not saying the problem isn't me. I'm just not a social butterfly.

It's interesting you bring this up, Let me give you an example, I recently got Hacked and the source was a forum called Nintendo Life. I was speaking to someone there and they asked me about my name, I said, Yeah, I've used this name for years online. The next thing you know, My email was hacked, The next day, My Netflix got hacked, After that, My steam account was hacked and my Psn account.

The truth is, I know it had to have been a staff member there that used my password, No one else could have guessed it.
But, there are some insanely good hackers out there, It's not like it was even just ten years ago.

But then I used to use similar passwords for everything, Still one can't afford a lot of Trust online these days brother. Here is different. But, Everyone can see us though.

There's a phrase attributed to Nathan Bedford Forrest "Get 'em skeered and keep the skeer on 'em" that isn't entirely out of place. Well, for damned sure I'm scared but there are a lot of reports and rumors circulating that are doing their level best to keep up the skeer.

There are those - like us - who actually have brains in their heads who are reasonable and taking the only measures we can. I'm just cautioning against getting too nuts over what's in the news. I find myself vibrating like a tuning fork after a few hours of having TV or radio on. Guard troops deployed - sounds scary until you read about what they are actually doing. The other day I saw a picture of U.S.N.S Comfort in New York harbor and immediately thought how F'd we all are until I realized it was a pic from 2001 and the damned ship isn't even wet - it's sitting in dry dock somewhere.

Then there are those who, as @Thomas R. Morrison pointed out, drag their sick kids everywhere without thought. Saw that on my last grocery run. That annoys the s*** out of me even without the pandemic. If we were a herd I'd be shoving them out toward the edge.

I suspect I'm in an at risk group for a variety of reasons and know for a fact that my brother who is crippled up with rheumatoid arthritis is at serious risk. So we're isolated. This will get a lot more real quickly when someone we know has it. So far that isn't the case. I can't change anything, I'm just trying not to add to the skeer.

Keep in mind though As I've been telling everyone, Yes, This thing is dangerous and you don't want it. But What keeps my panic down is, Most people do survive this.

Even if one was diagnosed with it, There is still hope my brother.

Christ - it seems like every time I check the number of infections, they've gone up by 100,000. We're now at over 300,000 official infections (a scant fraction of the actual number) and over 13,000 fatalities. And those numbers are climbing precipitously.

I have comments about this. But, It would sound Race related, However, I will still say this as I don't know if anyone else has noticed. .. I Don't think this thing hits Asians as hard as other ethnicities. I mean, Japan was literally barely phased by this. And it's already ending in China. I'm not saying there is evidence that this was engineered to specifically target Caucasians.

But then, someone could say, Numbers don't lie. I know how this sounds. I truly do. But. I'm just saying though, That's within the realm of scientific possibility.

I know, I know, This makes it sound like a racist conspiracy, And I don't mean for it too. I'm just saying, I have suspicions. But take this all in the casual context, I'm not saying that's what this is. Amid the fear and panic. sometimes, Not every idea a person has is based on a politically sound foundation

I think it's a just a matter of where it started, not conspiracy. South Korea has certainly been hit hard.

China is the large version of the idiot that insists on dragging their sick kid into public places.

Those crazy-assed North Koreans have been shooting off missile again in the middle of all this.

Yes. I got a little freakout on me this morning.
Since this thread is already so dark, I will tell this event.

When I was in my twenties I and a friend witnessed a terrible car accident. We ran up to the Vehicles to see what we could do to help. I even now, Can't describe the things I saw, I still see it when I close my eyes sometimes.

No joke.

Put down the lighter, and step away from the bong, buddy.

The reason Japan and China turned this thing around is that they were primed for it by the 2002 SARS virus, and, they responded in a scientifically informed and quickly responsive manner. China deployed 1500 four-person teams to investigate every infection and quarantine everyone who came into close contact with every patient. And in the areas where it had already spread too far to isolate individuals, they basically declared martial law and forced everyone to stay the hell home. That's how you get ahead of a contagion with an R >2.

Here in the West our "leaders" blustered with idiotic bravado and played down the threat at the critical moment when we needed to act boldly and nationally. That's why it's ravaging the Western world.

This coronavirus infects everyone who gets sufficiently exposed to it, because there's zero human immunity to it. It doesn't care what race or what nationality you are - it's an equal-opportunity murderer.

You make a very valid point, in Japan and China they were willing to take the steps necessary to make it stop spreading. All this tells me is, It's going to be really bad here though :(
