Tom Brady's first foray into NFL free agency is expected to be a short one as the 42-year-old quarterback is reportedly on the verge of signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after announcing his intention to leave New England earlier on Tuesday. According to multiple reports, Brady will sign a new contract with the Buccaneers on Wednesday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport is reporting that the deal is worth $30 million per season, although the length of the contract is not known. Fox Sports Radio's Colin Cowherd was the first to report the news. Both ESPN and Boston radio station WEEI have since confirmed the reporting independently. Brady's agent did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation from the Daily Mail.

Former Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston started at quarterback for the 7-9 Buccaneers last season, throwing 33 touchdowns and a whopping 30 interceptions to lead the league. He is now a free agent and is expected to sign elsewhere. Brady became a free agent for the first time in his career this month. Players can officially begin signing new contracts on Wednesday

Fifth person dies in hunt for Fenn's treasure

Late last week, pair of persistent explorers found themselves in trouble for the second time in three weeks in the same section of Dinosaur National Monument. The two were rescued after getting stuck in deep snow in late February; they were not so fortunate this time.

One man, a 58-year-old from Deer Trail, was found dead by rescuers. The other, a 65-year-old from Thornton, was treated and released from a hospital. Searchers found the men Saturday. They had been reported missing four days earlier. “I don’t believe these gentlemen intended to get in as far as they did,” said Lt. Chip McIntyre of the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office.

McIntyre said the pair rented a pair of snowmobiles in February and became stuck on the western side of the Colorado-Utah border. They were able to call 911, however, and rescuers pulled them out the same day. The two again rented snowmobiles last Wednesday and set out in the same area of Wild Mountain, though in a different direction. On board, they had water bottles, candy bars, and a copy of Forrest Fenn’s “The Thrill of the Chase.”

Fenn’s 2010 publication announced a hidden treasure worth millions of dollars waiting to be found somewhere in the Rocky Mountains north of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Four Coloradans have now lost their lives since 2016 in their search for it.

Oil-Industry Collapse Accelerates With Scores of Rigs Going Dark

(Bloomberg) -- The oil industry’s meltdown is accelerating as explorers shut down scores of drilling rigs across the U.S. in response to cratering crude prices and expanding supply gluts.

Oil companies idled 40 rigs this week, twice the pace of last week’s reduction and the steepest contraction since April 2015, according to data released by Baker Hughes Co. on Friday.

More than half the shutdowns occurred in the Permian Basin of West Texas and New Mexico, an ominous sign for an industry that survived the last market crash in large part by retreating to that region because of its resilience to weak pricing.

Benchmark U.S. oil futures have plunged 65% this year and are on pace for the most painful quarter since at least 1990. This week’s rig shutdowns bring the two-week total to 59, a cut of almost 9% of the nation’s active fleet.

North America, which has been roiled by contractions in the past, may see a sharper, more abrupt cut in drilling activity before the end of the second quarter, Schlumberger Ltd., the world’s biggest oilfield service company, said this week.

Halliburton Co., the king of fracking and the No. 3 overall service provider, is planning for almost two thirds of all rigs on the continent to shut down by the fourth quarter.

Panty-stealing Long Island judge stripped of license, steps down from bench
By Andrew Denney

April 3, 2020 | 3:45pm

robert-cicale-peve-judge-web-2.jpg

A Long Island judge who copped to stealing dirty undies from the home of a female neighbor has resigned from the bench and has been stripped of his law license.

Suffolk County District Judge Robert Cicale pleaded guilty in September to second-degree attempted burglary, a felony, for breaking into the home of a 23-year-old woman who used to be the pervy judge’s intern on separate occasions and stealing panties from her laundry hamper.

The judicial panty-bandit was arrested in March 2018 as he was leaving the woman’s house — with his pockets stuffed full of her skivvies.

The neighbor previously interned for Cicale while he served as Islip town attorney.

Cicale was sentenced to probation in November and was required to register as a sex offender.

The judge was suspended without pay following his arrest — but inexplicably held onto his position on the bench, which prevented local officials from holding an election to replace him.

Cicale finally agreed on March 31 to resign, according to documents released Friday by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct. His term was set to end on Dec. 31, though the New York Court of Appeals — the state’s highest court — could have ordered his removal prior to that date.

“The public cannot respect and the electorate cannot replace a judge who pleads guilty to a felony but holds on to office, despite being suspended without pay,” commission Administrator Robert Tembeckjian said in a news release.

Cicale was also disbarred on Thursday, as per an order from a mid-level state appeals court.

Cicale and the attorney who represented him in his criminal case did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A spokeswoman for the state commission could not provide additional details on why Cicale held onto his position following his guilty plea.

That's a bit of an old story Nivek, it was actually last week's news, and of course sensationalised scare-fest that the Mail loves to catch your eye with.
Raging wildfires around Chernobyl finally extinguished - Bellona.org
...when in fact, I believe the tiny-saga to be a bit of a non-event to be honest.
I mean to say.. .. a 87 acre fire, … really? … hardly a standard firework for a country's national emergency service surely, specially when compared to what has been going on in Australia lately. My other point being... Chernobyl! … come on,... with all of that backfill ,concrete and what-have-you that was used to entomb the whole damn thing and keep something a lot more dangerous in for millennia, then i'm pretty sure that, that place will be fire proof anyway!
… But that's the press.... always understated and never sensationalist is it.

Cheers Buddy.

Queen promotes Tom Moore from captain to COLONEL as he turns 100 today - after the super soldier raised over £29million for NHS

Captain Tom Moore, who captured the nation's hearts by doing laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS, has been promoted to Honorary Colonel by the Queen on his 100th birthday. The promotion comes alongside a personal letter from Her Majesty and the new Colonel has also been re-presented with his Second World War Defence Medal ahead of next week's VE Day celebrations. And, along with the usual cake and champagne, there'll be two flypasts to mark his big day today - by Army Air Corps helicopters as well as a Spitfire and Hurricane in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

As well-wishers across the globe sent cards in their thousands (inset and top right is Colonel Tom's grandson Benjie showing him the cards), Defence Secretary Ben Wallace paid tribute to Colonel Tom, saying he not only embodies 'the spirit of our incredible veteran community but also the resolve of this nation'. The veteran, who completed a sponsored walk of his garden in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire to raise millions for the NHS, was informed of the promotion in a letter presented by Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Miller (bottom right with the Colonel), of the 1st Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment, which also awarded him the prestigious annual Regimental Medal (pictured left is Colonel Tom with the medal).
