Well, doing some laundry a moment ago reminded me of that pain, twisted a certain way, yeah that hurt, I do need to take it easy today...

All sorts of drama circulating from several directions and I say fookitall, at least for one night

I actually had the evening along for the first time since this plague started and used it wisely. Stuffed my face full of nasty frozen burritos - a secret occasional sin of mine - and plowed through most of a 12 pack of Yuengling lagers. Watched a lot of Indiana Jones. Yes, at one point I had the dog pinned to the couch giving her belly rubbings while I was saying ' Kali Ma ..... Kali Ma .....'

The first time I had a kidney stone and went to the emergency room the nurse there said a man was in earlier for a kidney stone episode. He said this guy was rolling around on the floor and howling like a wounded animal. The male nurse laughed about that episode. I can tell you I wasn’t laughing much as I took pain meds shots and was trying to pass that frigging stone. I have a high tolerance for pain but I hadn’t felt anything quite like that before.

The emergency room doctor equated the kidney stone pain as almost equal to a woman in labor. Ouch!

Boy you aren't kidding either, hitting from several directions and levels, it's astonishing really...I have been in so much pain since Sunday on top of everything else going on, I said fookit last night and slammed down a bunch of beers, I think I passed the damned thing last night as a result...No pain at all this morning, except a lingering headache from all the other crap going on I'm dealing with, might have to make some cuts, just for my own peace of mind...

I had yesterday off from work and gave myself the day off from doing anything. Exhausted. Fell asleep everywhere I went except the damned bed. Tried to work on something simple in the garage and just couldn't focus. Finally gave it up about 8 last night and woke up today about 5:30 feeling almost human again.

I just turned off the external drama. I have it coming through multiple channels in great quantity. Guess what? Ignored it totally and some of it went away. Or at least got quiet for a little while.

I'll take that.

Hopefully it did pass.

Cuts, as in employee terminations? Eeeee. That sucks - but the kidney stone is still waaaaay up higher on the list of things that suck ........

Ahhh. The one thing I did manange to do yesterday was take the old car out. Blah blah blah technical blah blah, but I finally figured out a certain reference mark, which led to some testing, which led to some repairs and a surprising improvement. Ignition timing and the goal is to keep certain things within certain parameters. But those old motors can be very forgiving and still run reasonably well even if they're out of spec. I thought it had been running very well with just a but of pinging.

But pinging and lackluster performance has nothing to do with E10 gas or the fact that you can't get super high octane out of the pump. That may be true in some cases but mostly that's a refuge for the lazy. Now that I figured out that one stupid timing mark I have this thing finally corrected after a 1990 rebuild. It'll take some extra kanoodling to finalize but that'll be over the winter. It got lumpier, the exhaust note developed an authoritative punch and the ping went away - seems there were a few extra ponies in the barn after all.

Then I went back to my day of narcolepsy.

No not employee cuts, I don't have a job currently, not after they took 20 percent of our salaries in a salary reduction scheme...That didn't set well with me and couldn't accept it so I walked...

No by cuts I mean cutting out some things going on that are touching my life and certain people who are inadvertently bringing down everyone and everything around them as a result...Perhaps it's all just deadwood that needs to be cut anyway and current conditions are making me realize it more so for what it is than I did before, I don't know...Hurts though because I care and everything else I tried to do to help has failed to help...

How concerned are you about getting another job, or will you be starting your own business?

Not too concerned at all actually, my skills and experience are valuable, however I haven't made it known yet that I'm available and looking...I've had my own business since 2009, it's small and I maintain it small, it has covered the expenses for this forum since AE started lol...I've expanded it before in the past when I needed more income from it, not sure if I want I do that or not...Right now just kind of resting and wait and see approach, nothing needs to be rushed...

Crap! Wasn’t reading this carefully enough. Knew you were unhappy but hadn’t realized you left.

Life’s too short to put up with extraneous nonsense

What is the possibility that the owner realizes he needs you there and he relents and restores your pay and position?

Sheltie

Fratty and out of touch.
From what I know of you, Nivek, you're single with no kids and you were making 6 figures at your job. I'm thinking you can easily afford to take some time off between jobs.

I have considered that possibility, I recently inquired about someone else who also walked because of that salary adjustment scheme, someone who was immensely needed and he has not received that offer...If I were to get a call and offer of pay restoration, I would accept and return to work, the resoration would have to be effective immediately and reimbursement for the lost percentage taken from the previous pay deposit which set the stage for these events...

There's one other element, I have been helping a family for some time financially, friends who have had it much much harder...Easily a third of my salary has been going to their behalf and that cannot and will not cease, I'd rather not post details of their situation but things are slowly improving for them and eventually they'll be back on their own feet again but not now...I'll be ok but I don't want to wait too long before taking another job, however a little break from all that is nice...

This sounds like a guy who would cut off his nose in spite of his face. PS... I would get all restored money etc. in writing so this prick won’t back out in a weeks time.

This sounds like a bad relationship. You want to go back but only realize what a mistake that is until after you've done it, then you're thinking of chewing your arm off to get out of a trap. If he screwed you once he'll do it again. Management - in whatever form that takes - can and does say a lot, make promises, appeal to our personalities, you name it. But it's the $$ that separates bullshit from reality - and it sounds as if he wanted to feed you a spoonfuls to see if you would take it. If you did it would just encourage the next round of unpleasantness. Didn't work, did it? As for the owner, adversity doesn't make character, it reveals it.

Easy for me to say - not my livelihood and not to be taken too seriously. More old war stories. I was in a union with a defined contractual benefit but at some point they had to take a handful of us and make us Untouchable by layoff because we were the ones who actually knew how all the gadgetry worked. Essential workers before the term became popular.

I've read there were men in Titanic's engineering spaces who died keeping the light on until the last minute. I can sort of relate.

Somehow along with creating a new classification we gained the ability to negotiate for annual increases above the contract. Not everyone figured that out and not everyone could take advantage of it, but I did. I saw many others that were given all sorts of perks and baubles but in the end I got the cash and still have it even after the company got bought out by a foreign concern and I went from Essential to Irrelevant. Money talks and bullshit walks.

On impulse power this morning. Power out. It's headed into the 90s and is humid as hell. I fired up the generator but don't have it permanently wired into the breaker panel. I ran two 12/2 UF cables down to my shed about 100' away and pounded a ground rod in down there. Each cable is connected to a hunk of 12/2 SO cord with a male 20 amp plug on it. Up inside my garage there's a surface mounted quad outlet where those two circuits terminate.

I put a plug & outlet on my boiler so that gets juice with a short extension cord. Heat & hot water.
I run another upstairs for the refrigerator and all the FIOS crap, which is how I am here today. Gasoline powered internet access.

Did it that way because I already had most of the materials so there wasn't much cost involved. Also because a good friend wired a generator panel into his house, got carried away and turned it into a copper mine. One day a bolt of lightning touched the transformer at the pole he was fed from and said 'oooo! delicious!' when it hit all that grounded wiring he put in. Smoked every bit of cable entering the house plus most of the stuff downstream from the panel. Hindsight being clear, perhaps another ground rod or two or mat would have been in order.

So today I am thinking of burying a 10/3 UF. Leave the generator end on SO cord and a 4 prong 20 amp twist lock. Most generators these days are 30 amps, hence the 10 AWG - a little future proofing. I'd drop an L14-30 outlet near my panel to terminate it inside the house, then leave an L14-30 socket cap dangling from the panel attached to - for now - a 20 amp double pole breaker. There are interlock kits that physically force a 'break before make' on the main breaker - meaning it has to be turned off before the generator breaker can be energized. If I ever buy a new generator I can just change the plug in the shed and the breaker to 20 amps. This way I can have it conveniently wired into the panel but not permanently attached.

Fascinating, eh? I'm just thinking out loud and all the extension cords are a p.i.t.a. This happens infrequently and all this crap is already in place and I have a bazillion extension cords. But it would be nice to just fire it up. plug two things in and operate a breaker to have every outlet in the house live. Just a question of how much you have on at once.

And as I write it all just came back on ........
