Small wonder that Florida COVID cases have ramped up. DisneyWorld is reopening, bar owners are fighting to sell liquor once more and it looks like the beaches are full of maskless people. Everyone wants to have a good time and then ignore the repercussions.

Holy smokes...over 15,000 new confirmed cases in Florida in just one day. Reminds me of that line from American Beauty: "Never underestimate the power of denial." Suddenly that death toll projection of 250,000 Americans by year's end doesn't look so unlikely...

The idea that government officials will be opening up schools without a plan to protect the children is inexcusable and almost criminal in my mind. The reality of thousands of new cases of the virus goes to show that a vast amount of people won’t allow themselves to be told what to do by anyone. We have been indoctrinated into a certain style of life and a certain group of humans will not change no matter what the consequences. We are in for a very long pandemic it seems.

Yep and here is a good case reason not to be so haste in reopening schools, we are putting at risk not only the children but teachers as well...

Teachers who taught summer school in same classroom catch coronavirus, one dies

Three Arizona summer-school teachers who followed the recommended safety protocols for the coronavirus while in the same classroom contracted the contagion — and one of them died, reports say.

“It just feels like a bad dream that I can’t wake up from,” said Jesse Byrd, the husband of beloved late first-grade instructor Kimberley Chavez Lopez Byrd, 61, to the Arizona Republic.

His wife had previously retired, only to miss the classroom so much that she eventually returned to the job as a first-grade teacher in the Hayden-Winkelman Unified School District in Gila County.

Boris Johnson finally says people SHOULD wear face masks in shops and is poised to make them compulsory 'within days' after weeks of dithering and mixed messages from ministers

Boris Johnson, who was once again wearing a covering out and about in London, insisted they had a 'great deal of value' in confined spaces such as shops. After weeks of dithering, he said ministers and officials were 'looking at' the guidance on whether they should be compulsory in such settings, and suggested an announcement is imminent. The comments came amid accusations that the government is 'all over the place' on face masks with the premier and Michael Gove seemingly at odds over requiring them in shops. Currently they are only required by law on public transport in England. Justice Secretary Robert Buckland added to the sense of drift by saying 'perhaps' masks should become mandatory inside.

How New South Wales will fight to avoid Melbourne-style lockdown as the virus 'spreads like wildfire' in Sydney - and Victoria is told 'stage FOUR' restrictions could be introduced amid horror second wave

New South Wales will fight to avoid plunging back into lockdown and instead focus on its economic recovery, as Victorians are told to brace for unprecedented Stage Four restrictions if it can't stop a spiraling breakout. The NSW Cabinet met on Monday to discuss how to cut infection rates without shutting down the economy in the wake of an outbreak at the Crossroads Hotel in Sydney's south-west which has infected 21 people since July 3.

You would think that Boris Johnson would be all in to making people wear a mask after he caught the virus himself. Like all politicians he doesn’t want to make an unpopular decision where the voting public will dislike him.

California governor orders widespread closures of businesses as coronavirus cases surge

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday ordered a halt to indoor activities at certain businesses statewide as cases of coronavirus surge in the country’s most populous state. Newsom announced during a press briefing that all bars across the state must close up shop and that restaurants, wineries, tasting rooms, family entertainment centers, zoos, museums and card rooms must suspend indoor activities.

The governor also announced that all gyms, places of worship, malls, personal care services, barbershops, salons, and non-critical offices in counties on the state’s “monitoring list” had to shut down under the new order. The order affects more than 30 counties which are home to about 80 percent of California’s population.

"We've made this point on multiple occasions and that is, we're moving back into a modification mode of our original stay-at-home order," Newsom said during his press briefing. "This continues to be a deadly disease.”

Revelers who partied at Michigan lake for packed Fourth of July sandbar party begin to test positive as hundreds are warned to monitor for symptoms

Over Fourth of July weekend hundreds of revelers partied at a Michigan lake sandbar, but some attendees have since tested positive for COVID-19. Health officials announced Friday that several people have tested positive after joining in on the festivities at the Torch Lake sandbar in Milton Township, and now attendees are being told to monitor themselves for symptoms for 14 days.

Those who tested positive for COVID-19 were not able to identify other people they had been in contact with at the party, making contact tracing impossible. Shocking photographs of the carefree festivities show hordes of people packed on the sand ignoring social distancing orders and hundreds of boats crowding around the sandbar.

'Therefore we want to make the public aware that those who attended could be at risk for exposure, and additional cases could be seen in the coming days,' the Health Department of Northwest Michigan said Friday.

The Torch Lake sandbar has now been listed as a possible coronavirus exposure site.

'If you were at the Torch Lake Sandbar party over 4th of July weekend, you should monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and seek testing if symptoms should develop or if you were at high risk for exposure due to being in close proximity with others or not wearing a cloth facial covering,' officials said.

Michigan has seen a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent days.

Shoppers who don't wear a mask in stores from July 24 WILL face £100 fines - with police on hand to enforce government's new rule and issue the on-the-spot penalties

Face masks will become compulsory in all stores from next week. Shoppers (such as those pictured top and bottom right) who fail to comply risk fines of £100 under the plans to stop a second wave of coronavirus. Only young children or those with certain disabilities will be exempt from the new regulations which come in on Friday, July 24. Retailers will be asked to advise customers to wear masks but their staff will not be expected to enforce the law. Instead, police will be given powers to dish out fines. The law will require people to wear simple cloth face coverings, rather than the medical grade masks used by front-line NHS workers. Prime Minister Boris Johnson (pictured left wearing a face mask during a visit to his constituency of Uxbridge) yesterday said they were important in confined spaces as 'a kind of extra insurance'.

This waffling between opening up businesses and then turning around shortly afterwards to close things down is only going to piss people off even more and make them ignore whatever rules the state governments set up. Make a decision and then stick to your guns until there is a downturn in Corona cases.

I really think its a case of all in, the whole country needs to follow the same restrictions and masking wearing, all at once to get this back under control...The federal government really needs to step up to the plate, their lack of action is inexcusable...

Start counting the cases of people getting the virus. There must be a “stupid gene” that is kicking in with these humans. Does partying so close at hand overrule everyone’s thought process? This is the part that boggles my mind. The idea of not using any common sense to stay alive.

I hope no one ever hopes for some alien civilization to come and help the human race overcome our problems. It would hardly seem worth the effort.

It does amaze me sometimes when people hang on every word spoken by a politician. Haven’t these people figured out that politicians are chronic cheats and liars? I cringe sometimes when I see crowds at these political rallies. You would think that Jesus was speaking to them.

Texas ER doctor: Emergency rooms and intensive care units are 'bulging at the seams'

Texas emergency rooms and intensive care units are "bulging at the seams," bombarded by a tsunami of new coronavirus cases, Dr. Natasha Kathuria reported Tuesday. In an interview on "Fox & Friends" with host Brian Kilmeade, Kathuria said cities all over the Lonestar State are feeling the pressure.

"So, it's been very terrifying. Even the patients [who] come in for non-COVID related things – like a trauma patient, for example – we end up finding out that they have COVID while they are in the ER. And so, things get very, very hectic at that point because these are infectious, communicable diseases that we very much worry about," she explained.

Kathuria works in Austin, Houston and New Braunfels – a city near San Antonio – but noted things in Houston are "pretty bad" as they contort to manage bed limitations.

"You know, they’re trying to shift patients between hospitals to make room. They have to keep these patients in certain areas. They can't just admit a COVID-positive patient anywhere," she said. "So, it's been very difficult. I mean, they are even having to use a children's hospital for backup for adult patients. I mean, that's pretty remarkable. That's a red flag."

According to data from Texas Health and Human Services, there have been over 264,300 cases reported with more than 3,200 deaths. On Monday, state health officials reported more than 40 new fatalities and 5,600 new cases following what had been the state's deadliest week.

Kathuria said that their handling of the virus has shifted as physicians learned more about COVID-19 and that they're doing a better job at "getting more patients across the finish line."

"But, what we're worried about right now is the collateral damage," she said. "When you overwhelm a health care system with anything – especially an infectious disease like we are right now – you don't just worry about the patients dying from COVID. Then it's patients dying of completely otherwise preventable causes of death. You know, appendicitis, heart attacks, strokes – everything gets affected when a health care system is overwhelmed."
