Not murder hornets but just the plain old scary aggressive regular hornets. For whatever reason yellow jackets and now these hornets have decided a large hedge right near the house is the place to be. It isn't. I have plenty of liquid death. No sense of scale after I chucked it down the embankment but it's bigger than a bowling ball and wasn't even active two days.

I've been lucky not to see anything like that around here, I don't like wasps and hornets anywhere, I wouldn't miss them if they went extinct, maybe some critter might but not me lol...Drove my riding mower over a hole in the ground full of bees once, in that moment they first landed on me I saw one on the rim of my ball cap, I thought it was a cricket until I felt the stings happening all over me...Cut off the mower and ran, my dog thought I was playing and ran over to play, yeah he found out quick but we both made it in the house...I'm not allergic to those bees, hurt like hell for a couple hours but overnight could hardly feel the stings in the morning...I think they were biters too, felt like some of them were biting me as well as stinging me...

Pulled the first two watermelons earlier today, one larger than the other, it was slightly overripe, but has great flavour, just not as juicy, I should have pulled it a couple days ago...The second melon is slightly smaller and was growing a few days behind the larger one, it should be really good and ripe...I haven't cut it open yet, maybe tomorrow afternoon I will...

The first two pics are the first melon...There's still about 8 to 10 good size melons out there on the vines still, with all this rain we are getting they will be ready soon...

I'm very keen about nasty bugs. Had yellow jackets get into an odd spot by my front door that ultimately led them past the rim joist into the ceiling/floor of the house. I had them pouring out of electric outlets and where the baseboard heating penetrates the walls. Had to take my lighting fixtures off the ceiling in the basement and vacuum out handfuls of dead (mostly) yellow jackets. This is why I keep plenty of liquid death on hand. THAT whole episode was unpleasant to say the least.

Steel wool does a great job at sealing up holes.

I've been trimming the bushes all around my front porch today, its very humid outside, 68% humidity but the temperature is only 84 degrees, my clothes were soaking wet lol...Four hours and got most of it done, I have a wrap around porch and many bushes following around the front of it...I'll clear out the two piles of trimmings tomorrow morning, I'm done with the bushes for the day...

about two more hours of work left on those bushes and cleaning up...

This morning I finished all the trimming work, cleaned up all the trimmings and mowed the yard, all my outside chores are done for the week...We had a surprise rainstorm pop up about 6pm last night, then the rainstorm continued to grow and expand, ended up turning into a 4 hour thunderstorm...Its rained every day in August thus far, which is unusual for this area, August is usually a drier month unless tropical weather comes up from the south...

Thursday and Friday of this week were the first times we have received rain in the past two months. The grass is brown and it looks like another lawn mowing can be put off until next week.

I mow at least once a week, the grass is growing fast here, everything is green and growing fast, winter and spring are the wet seasons for us usually but this summer has been much wetter than normal...I hope for a drier autumn so I can do some outside work on my workshop building, amongst other things I need to put a coat of sealer on all the wood surfaces in preparation for the cold months...Thus summer has been too wet and the humidity has been too high so far for that work...

Worked out in the garden a few hours this morning, pulling weeds and taking down the fencing around the green beans since they are spent...Mowed down the grass and beans after removing the fencing and pulled all the weeds around the broccoli plants, they are doing great, should have broccoli soon...I counted 10 watermelon on the vines still growing, might have another one ready in a day or two, it's close...

90. Humid. Just took the pooch to the park for a 3 mile walk.

All gyms are indefinitely closed so today's the day to grab my big steel mofo breaker bar and start hacking a trench about 70' down to my shed. Going to run some 3/4" sch40 pipe down 18"-24" and pull some #10 wire for a permanent generator feed. I am glad for the exercise.

But first, a meatloaf sandwich.

I went out in to town this morning early to get some supplies and food, I take the dog for a ride with me early while its cooler outside and we walk around the area near the stores for a bit before I go in to start shopping...Felt the earthquake just as I got off the john this morning, thought it was just me for a moment from my birthday drinking last night lol, but the dog was freaking out...

That's a good job there, at least you don't have to go very far, 70 feet isn't too bad however I doubt you are in a shaded spot, can't dig too deep near trees lol...

But first, a meatloaf sandwich.

I have a recipe for homemade meatloaf I've been wanting to try but keep forgetting to get out the recipe and make a list of things needed to make it...
