A 0.7-pound (333-gram) moon rock is on display in the oval office. What's the symbolism? I've read the moon is an ancient Sirian ship or a reptilian ship used for an invasion force.

UAE Government Bewilders Residents with 'Double Moon' Over Dubai

The appearance of two mysterious moons over Dubai last week caused a stir online and left residents of the city scratching their heads until it was revealed that the wondrous sight was actually a fantastic fabrication from the UAE government in celebration of a space milestone. The odd incident reportedly unfolded last Thursday evening when, seemingly out of nowhere, a pair of sizeable objects could be seen in the night sky. Stunned witnesses stopped their cars to get a better look at what they were seeing and videos of the puzzling 'double moon' quickly went viral on social media.

As one might imagine, UFO enthusiasts suspected that the two objects had some kind of alien explanation, while skeptical observers suggested that the scene was somehow faked. In this instance, the latter camp was proven correct as, after the event had generated a considerable amount of online buzz, the UAE Government Media Office stepped forward to take credit for creating the remarkable moment which they explained was meant to spark excitement about the impending arrival in the Martian atmosphere of the country's historic Hope Probe spacecraft.

Specifically, the two objects seen in the sky were depictions the Martian moons Phobos and Deimos as the Hope Probe would see them when it gets to the atmosphere of the Red Planet. As for how they pulled off the elaborate sight, the UAE government utilized a pair of approximately 300-foot-tall cranes supporting a massive 130-foot screen upon which a realistic picture of the two lunar bodies was projected. Fortunately, the early celebration did not jinx the mission as the Hope Probe arrived into orbit around the Red Planet on Tuesday, making the UAE the first Arab nation to arrive at Mars.

I've never heard the theory about another earth-like planet on the other side of the solar system except in the sci fi movie, Journey to the Far Side of the Sun. There is an interesting theory, though widely discredited by most experts, that our sun has a dwarf twin that we don't as of yet know about: Nemesis Star Theory: The Sun's 'Death Star' Companion | Space.

A Rare August Blue Moon Will Illuminate the Sky This Weekend

Blue moons are already rare, but the one that will rise this weekend—the 2021 August blue moon—is even more special. So dust off your telescope and get ready for a spectacular view.

Here's the thing: The term "blue moon" actually has two definitions, per NASA.

The first: It's the second full moon that occurs within a calendar month (because each month typically only has one full moon).

And second: it's the third full moon to rise within a calendar season that has four full moons (as opposed to the usual three). Typically, each calendar season consists of three months and therefore, three full moons.

But this summer, which began on June 20 and ends September 22, will have four, making August's full moon a seasonal blue moon. According to EarthSky.org, this type of blue moon only rises about once every two to three years. Unfortunately, neither type of blue moon is actually blue in color.

But wait, there's more! August's blue moon is not only a semi-rare occurrence, but it will also be uniquely long and bright. Although it will reach peak illumination on Sunday, August 22 at 8:02 a.m. EDT, it will rise with an almost equal glow each evening from Friday, August 20 to Monday, August 22, making it a full moon weekend—giving you extra time to marvel at its enchanting sparkle.

When August's full moon doesn't fall into the special spot that it has this year, it's referred to as the full sturgeon moon, named after the large fish that were easily caught by indigenous Algonquin tribes in the Great Lakes this time of year. The moon is also known as the full red moon, the green corn moon, or the grain moon, according to Farmer's Almanac.

If you miss this full moon, don't worry there are more to come—though they'll be different. The next full moon, the harvest moon or the full corn moon, will rise on September 20, per Farmer's Almanac. LUNAR ECLIPSE TONIGHT! The Moon will turn red for almost 85 minutes!

Tonight, the full Moon will pass through the shadow of Earth, producing a total lunar eclipse. Totality begins at 11:29 pm EDT on May 15th (03:29 UT on May 16th). The Moon will turn red for almost 85 minutes:

Other time zones: UT, EDT, CDT, MDT, PDT

This eclipse might be darker red than other recent lunar eclipses. Blame the Tonga volcano. During a lunar eclipse, most of the light illuminating the Moon passes through Earth's stratosphere where it is reddened by scattering. When the Tonga volcano erupted on Jan. 15, 2022, it hurled 400 million kilograms of ash and fumes deep into the stratosphere. The volcano's lingering exhaust could shade the eclipse, making it a deeper darker red than usual.

The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles is hosting a live lunar eclipse watching party starting on May 15th at 7:30 pm PDT.

The eclipse will be widely visible from the Americas on the evening of May 15th; and Africa and Europe on the morning of May 16th. This map created by Michael Zeiler of GreatAmericanEclipse.com shows who is favored:

It's a SIGN it's a SIGN !!

I was just outside with the piewolf and there is indeed a 3/4 dull red eyeball hanging there looking at me. Cool. This is what an iphone 8 does with something like that. I didn't even reduce the image size I just cropped it.

India's lunar lander detects 'movement' on the moon - ILSA listens to the movements around the landing site

The Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) payload on the Chandrayaan 3 Lander is the first instance of a Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology-based instrument on the moon. It has recorded the vibrations occurring due to the movements of Rover and other payloads.

ILSA comprises a cluster of six high-sensitivity accelerometers, which are indigenously fabricated using the Silicon Micromachining process. The core sensing element consists of a spring-mass system with comb-structured electrodes. External vibrations lead to a deflection of the spring, resulting in a change in capacitance which is converted into voltage.

ILSA's primary objective is to measure ground vibrations generated by natural quakes, impacts, and artificial events. The vibrations recorded during the rover's navigation on August 25, 2023, are depicted in the figure. Additionally, an event, seemingly natural, recorded on August 26, 2023, is also shown. The source of this event is currently under investigation.

The ILSA payload was designed and realised at LEOS, Bangalore, with the support of private industries. The deployment mechanism for placing ILSA on the lunar surface was developed by URSC, Bengaluru.

Scientists have discovered that the Moon is not a silent place and that there are tremors on the lunar surface frequently. This discovery, which comes days after Chandrayaan-3's landed on the moon, has left NASA scientists and researchers stumped. Surprisingly the tremors were reportedly not due to Chandrayaan-3, which further deepened the mystery. The scientists claim that the lunar surface experiences regular "thermal moonquakes" due to extreme temperature fluctuations.
