Oh Gawd, Nick Pope's such a TV whore. I like him but he's utterly shameless. And has a goofy perm.

Yeah he's a good and decent enough character on the tube, better than some others...

Perseverance's 'Seven Minutes of Terror'

NASA's Perseverance rover is set reach Mars on Thursday, February 18, 2021. The entry, descent, and landing phase of the mission is referred to as "seven minutes of terror" because the sequences are complex and the rover is essentially on its own after it receives the signal from NASA to descend. The spacecraft will drop at 12,000 miles per hour through the Martian atmosphere where it will endure temperatures up to 2,370 degrees Fahrenheit. It must then slow down to 1.7 miles per hour to allow the sky crane to lower it into position. Once safely on the surface of Mars Perseverance will begin its two-year mission to search for signs of ancient microbial life.

When we talk about ET we like to denigrate ourselves - how primitive, short sighted, smelly we are.

And then there's stuff like this. ET is still behind Door Number 1 - this is real right now and damned impressive.

Most people don't realize how tiny Mars is. It's only slightly more than half the size of the Earth. Even on a clear night when it's relatively close to the Earth, it's often faint and difficult to see. It's mind boggling to think human beings here on Earth are controlling a tiny vehicle on its surface.
