This set of sounds from the surface of Mars were recorded by the microphone on the side of NASA’s Perseverance Rover on Feb. 20, 2021. In the first set, sounds from the rover itself which dominate the recording are filtered out to better hear the Martian surface. In the second set, the sound is played unfiltered. This is the first time a Mars rover has been equipped with a microphone.

The pattern on the outer-edge of the parachute is additionally believed to represent 34°11’58” N 118°10’31” W, the geolocation code for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which carried out much of the work on Perseverance.

SOMEBODY needs to steer some water ice comets toward Mars to create more of an atmospheric green house, and then send a Seed Rover to start some moss, grass, trees, and add copepods and gamarid shrimp to a lake, then send a cultivator rover to culture a plantation of 12 edible plants... And then we can begin to colonize Mars....
