So, what about two-factor authentication?

I have one active Apple device (an iPod), and one Apple program that I use regularly (iTunes). No other device or software other than Apple requires or encourages me to utilize two-factor authentication. I have scrupulously avoided implementing it for one big reason: once established (with Apple, anyway), it can never be discontinued, once the opt-out period has elapsed. To me, this is horrible; I would hate to be locked into something that is irreversible.

A secondary, though quite significant, problem is the sometimes inconsistent way the Apple account behaves. From time to time I will be compelled to enter my Apple password just in order to access an app, in addition to the password required by the app itself. Thus I can easily envision Apple forcing me to go through two-factor authentication every single time I wake up my device after two minutes of activity. That could literally result in my going through that process 40-100 times a day!

I don't agree with the philosophy of imposing excessive security upon people beyond what they want for themselves. Obviously two-factor authentication is more secure than just using a password, but that should be my concern, not Apple's.

So, do you employ two-factor authentication for your own devices and accounts or not? And why or why not?

I use it for online banking and access to any financials, along with robust passwords. Anywhere I want to make sure it's really me. You'd pretty much have to be holding my severed thumb and iPhone, or be sitting in the seat I'm in right now, to access any of that with two-factor in place. Could happen, probably not without some fuss.

Online shopping, not so much. PayPal is the prophylactic I use for that.

How about password managers? I AM my password manager, along with a little book and a pencil. Just can't get my head around automating any of that.

Honestly I don't like it, my banking does it which that part is fine, however things like Godaddy hosting are relentless with that...I have to grab my phone for a text to confirm who I am even if I was just logged in with the same device 10 minutes ago...These corporations need to address their own security first and stop the various hacking elements before they need to worry about nobodies like me...

PayPal is kind of funny on how their app runs on my phone verse my tablet...It sometimes wants my fingerprint or password to open it on my phone but most of the time it doesn't ask for anything and just opens as soon as I click the app...If I open PayPal on my tablet however, it wants my fingerprint or password every single time the app is opened...The only difference I can see between the two devices is the one is registered on a cellular network and the other, my tablet uses wifi for its internet connection...

I see this like using date of birth or maiden name.
once it may have offered security,
but as years go on,
things are hacked.
so, it is only time before it to is useless

I never could either. I don't have my passwords anywhere except in my head. That's why I was so shocked that time that hacker tried to blackmail me. I have no idea where he picked up that old password I was using. Fortunately, it was not in use and had not been in use for more than 10 years.

I don't even understand how apps work because I can't use them until I update my software.

I still do all my banking through my land line. lol
