Whistleblowers say Biden admin told migrant facility workers to bury raging outbreak — and that's not all

Two federal whistleblowers are alleging that Department of Health and Human Services instructed them to downplay a coronavirus outbreak amongst migrant children being housed at a facility in Fort Bliss, Texas, earlier this year, according to a complaint filed Wednesday.

The complaint, which was sent to four Congressional committees and government watchdogs, was filed by the nonprofit Government Accountability Project on behalf of Arthur Pearlstein and Lauren Reinhold – who they say are "career federal civil servants" and "whistleblowers" who "served as volunteer detailees at the Fort Bliss Emergency Intake Site from April through June 2021."

"COVID was widespread among children and eventually spread to many employees. Hundreds of children contracted COVID in the overcrowded conditions," the complaint says. "Adequate masks were not consistently provided to children, nor was their use consistently enforced."

The complaint added that "regularly, when detailees reached the end of their term, a sheet was passed around with detailed instructions from the HHS Public Affairs Office on how, when asked, to make everything sound positive about the Fort Bliss experience and to play down anything negative."

The complaint also said "every effort was made to downplay the degree of COVID infection at the site, and the size of the outbreak was deliberately kept under wraps."

"At a ‘town hall’ meeting with detailees, a senior U.S. Public Health Service manager was asked and refused to say how many were infected because "if that graph [of infections] is going to The Washington Post every day, it's the only thing we'll be dealing with and politics will take over, perception will take over, and we're about reality, not perception,’" it claimed.

The manager at the Fort Bliss site reportedly "also dismissed a detailee’s concern that the children in the COVID tents were wearing basic disposable masks instead of N95 masks.

"The manager said N95 masks were unnecessary for the infected – even though uninfected detailees were working with the infected children," the complaint said.

The Government Accountability Project says "Pearlstein was primarily assigned to work on two teams while at Fort Bliss: performing clinical assessments on the Clinical Assessment Team; and working with small groups and individual children on the Mental Health/Wellness team," while Reinhold "worked in the girls’ tent for the first half of her detail; and, during the second half, was on the Call Center Team, and worked in all tents." Fox News has reached out to the Department of Health and Human Services for comment.

Hmmm...Fox 'News'....one wonders if this is politically motivated....and I want to make clear I'm not defending Biden here btw...but I am suspicious of all these partisan 'news'outlets anymore since Trump started all this partisan crap and disinformation during his reign...er, I mean presidency. :D

Most of your recent posts in this thread are politically charged and/or motivated, so your argument has no weight...Looking at the world through political lenses leaves one failing to see things objectively, yet always wanting a certain flavour of political ice cream...Quoting from fox news is no different than quoting from cnn or dailymail, they are all the same kind of ice cream objectively speaking...

So here you go then, down below, articles from NBC News and Washington examiner, two more examples...My point is crying about a flavour of ice cream is redundant when they are all the same...Who cares about Trump anyway, he's a has-been like Obama, Bush, and all the other ex-presidents, irrelevant and only a distraction from what the federal government is doing here and now...

I post things in this thread for covid reasons, not political reasons, this thread isn't a political one thank goodness...Its okay to shame members here for choosing not to be vaccinated but not okay to point out the discrepancies of the federal government that puts more lives at risk from covid?...

I had this exact same discussion months ago with another member here who on the flip side would not accept a report unless it came from a conservative source...At the time I posted an article from a liberal source...This political divisiveness is silly nonsense but in the end it will ruin this country if 'We the People' don't support one another and stop allowing this political turmoil to infect every aspect of our lives...

It is weird but I could not get this story on CNN.com. (the opposite of Fox, and if I see something on one I check the other) I hate politics and I hate that there is a political war going on so that news is reported with political bias and headlines (which is often the only part people read) are incendiary and misleading.

Oh my...I can say the same about many of your posts and others here...many of the ones you have posted are from conservative sources....so do we want to play this game? o_O And the fact you even bring this up means you must feel like you were personally called out or something.
And the flavors of ice cream are not all the same..sorry but imho anyone who believes that the 'news' sources are all biased the same way is not paying attention ....now that is worrisome indeed. :unsure8:

I think it's bad too....strong bias on both sides of the spectrum...and I am mostly a-political which bothers my son in law. He thinks one should vote and exercise that right, even if you don't like either candidate. I simply don't like some buffoons like we had in office before.
BTW..Have you listened to right wing talk radio in the last few years? IMHO they are mostly to blame for for the hard core rhetoric they dish out. BTW..try to find either a moderate or liberal talk radio show.

..apologies for taking this off topic since it is ostensibly the 'covid thread'.

I wanted to amend this post but you only get 15 minutes...we need to change that. :D
I was indeed picking on FOX because I think they are disgusting in the way they have lied ,misrepresented the truth, supported politicians lies, etc on so many issues over the last few years. Of course bias also can apply to other outlets. I am mosly a-political btw which upsets my son in law who thinks we all should vote..even if we don;t like either person. I don't agree.
My apologies for takng this covid thread down the dreaded political path. :wub8:

I never listen to any talk radio. I do agree with your son. everone needs to vote. I vote for the 3rd choice and if the is no 3rd choice I vote against the incumbent. It is the only way I see to make my vote count.

As for the OP I believe there probably is a problem with the children being detained at Ft. Bliss, I don't like Fox as they are obviously bias but this headline does not have a question mark in it so I assume it is based on some facts, even though the headline villifies Biden (expected on Fox). It concerns me that I could not find the story on CNN, I expected it would be there if the story is actually based on facts, but CNN has a bias the other direction so maybe they are suppressing it. I did find the story on CBS, NBC & MSN so it is a real story. The other networks are not blaming the Biden administration.

The CBS story, dated July 28, 2021 does not mention Covid at all.

Migrant children in U.S. tent camp faced depression and filthy conditions, whistleblowers say

The NBC story is dated July 7, 2021 No mention of Covid

Whistleblowers allege poor conditions for migrant kids at Fort Bliss

MSN does mention it. Dated today

Federal officials made 'every effort' to downplay a COVID-19 outbreak at a migrant children facility earlier this year, warning 'politics will take over,' whistleblowers say

There is definitely a problem in that facility. And of course because of over crowding and lack of care Covid got a foothold.

Yeah I didn't think the points I tried to convey would be understood, which requires stepping out of the box people typically enclose themselves into over the long years, that takes too much effort and some don't even know how to do that but instead just point fingers, sigh...Anyway carry on with dragging this thread down into the political gutter of your flavour, and yes they are all the same flavours, two ends of the same ice cream stick...You got to hold one end whilst licking the other....q37

Yes...that's not political at all............ LMAO:laugh8:

Not the way you're interpreting it...There is a difference between speaking out towards those currently in power and following party lines to continually demean the other...I didn't like the way the last administration handled covid and I don't like the way this administration is handling it, simple...

The only circumstance when your vote counts is when your candidate is either one vote down and your vote forces a draw, or when the vote is drawn and your vote tips the balance in favour of your candidate. Both of these circumstances have a probability of near-zero. When I don't like the incumbent (always), I still will not give any opposition candidate my vote, as they are just as bad or worse. Abstinence usually feels the more powerful option of those available.

You won't either, they lie and misrepresent the truth just as much or more as many of the other networks such as fox news does...These days we have to separate the wheat from the chaff to get the kernels of truth no matter the source, so for people to carry on whinging about the messenger is a useless argument...

I've done that many times before, I'd rather not vote than to vote for an opposition to the one I dislike more...Its sometimes better just to set away from it and not waste my vote...

So why do you bother voting at all if that is what you think?

What about the 3rd choice. If we could make sure there are always more choices than the big two, we have a chance at changing things.
