It was bound to happen eventually, but what a crappy choice. How about something connected to the state of Ohio and/or the city of Cleveland or the Great Lakes?

Well, turns out the team is named after the art deco statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge near the stadium so I guess thats not completely terrible. Still, its not something people from outside Cleveland are likely to know about.

On the same topic, I have to say that I like the idea of keeping the former Redskins team without an actual nickname. A governmental name (senators, federals, etc.) amounts to naming the team after something everybody loves to hate, and most other politically correct sounding names are just generic and not exciting.

Despite efforts to defund police, these Democrat-led cities spent millions on private security for mayors

As crime surges across the nation, Democratic mayors in approximately 20 U.S. cities that have called for defunding the police have received millions in taxpayer funds towards their own personal security details, according to a new report.

New data compiled by Forbes auditor Open the Books through Freedom of Information Act requests reveals that the city of Chicago, for example, spent $17.3 million between 2015 and 2020 to guard "unnamed city officials." Despite Mayor Lori Lightfoot's claims that she is opposed to cutting funding for the police, records show the city quietly cut 400 police officer positions in 2020 while the cost of her security detail hit an all-time high of $3.4 million for 22 officers, according to the report. Chicago reportedly spent $2.8 million for 17 officers in 2019; $2.8 million for 16 officers in 2018; $2.7 million for 20 police officers in 2017; and $2.9 million for 16 officers in 2016.

In San Francisco, $12.4 million was reportedly spent between 2015 and 2020 to protect Mayor London Breed as the city said it would divest $120 million from its police budget over two years to be put towards health programs. Security detail spending for Breed amounted to $1.7 million in 2015; $417,489 in 2016; $2.5 million in 2017; $2.7 million in 2018; $2.5 million in 2019; and $2.6 million in 2020.

In New York, the city council approved slashing $1 billion from its $6 billion police budget, with $354 million to be reallocated to mental health, homelessness and education services. However, spending on Mayor Bill de Blasio's security detail reportedly cost taxpayers $358,000 during his failed presidential bid.

In Baltimore, approximately $3.6 million was spent in 2020 for police to cover Mayor Brendon Scott, State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby and Police Commissioner Michael Harrison, despite about $22 million being eliminated from the city's police budget, according to Fox Baltimore. The mayor's protection unit reportedly cost the city nearly $2 million last fiscal year, while protection for the state's attorney cost $1.3 million and the police commissioner cost $464,948.

In San Diego, the city allocated $2.6 million for 12 full time officers to protect the mayor, Todd Gloria, the city council during meetings and for city administration building security. However, Gloria's budget reportedly called for $4.3 million in cuts to the police overtime budget and spending more than $1 million to set up the Commission on Police Practices, a police oversight body.

In Denver, where police officers have been replaced by healthcare workers to address mental health calls, nearly $4.2 million has reportedly been spent over the last six years on Mayor Michael Hancock's security detail.

City spokespeople in St. Louis, Missouri; Durham, North Carolina; Madison, Wisconsin; Rochester, New York; and Norman, Oklahoma, told Forbes their officials don’t have a police detail.

Forbes noted Open The Books is still awaiting responses from cities including Minneapolis; Atlanta; Los Angeles; Seattle; Portland, Oregon; Philadelphia; Austin, Texas; Dallas, Milwaukee; Oakland, California; and Camden, New Jersey.

This is one of those things that goes by under the radar.

My bet is lead poisoning, not the virus.

Five high-ranking Cuban generals dead in 10 days

Five high-ranking Cuban generals dead in 10 days
By Jorge Fitz-Gibbon July 27, 2021 | 6:30pm | Updated

Five high-ranking military leaders died in the span of just 10 days, according to the Cuban government — though it’s remained mum on the causes.

Brig. Gen. Armando Choy Rodriguez, 87, was the latest aging revolutionary to die, with Marta Abreu Central University announcing on Twitter that he passed away Monday.

Rodriguez was the founder of the “July 26 Movement” in Las Villas, and an author and historian, WPLG-TV in Miami said.

Also on Monday, Manuel Eduardo Lastres Pacheco, a former general who served under Argentine Ernesto “Che” Guevara during the revolution in the late 1950s, passed away, Cuban television confirmed.

Pacheco later served as commander of Cuba’s eastern army.

On Saturday, Gen. Ruben Martinez Puente, a 79-year-old general in Cuba’s army reserve and a controversial figure in the military, also died.

Puente was the general who gave the order to shoot down a civilian plane from the Cuban exile group Brothers to the Rescue in 1996 — bringing tensions with the US to a fever pitch.

Marcelo Verdecia Perdomo, another army reserve brigadier general and a former Castro bodyguard, died on July 20, the Communist Party newspaper Granma said.

Finally, Agustin Pena Porres, former commander of the western army and a member of Cuba’s Communist Central Committee, passed away on July 17, WPLG said.

According to Florida-based news outlet Periodico Cubano, the deaths follow that of Brig. Gen. Ivan Duponte Cabrales in May at the age of 77.

The more recent deaths come in the wake of massive protests in the Communist country earlier this month, with thousands of Cubans taking to the streets to demand freedom, food, and medications — including COVID vaccines.

The global pandemic has spiked in the past month, with new daily cases jumping from 1,880 on June 24 to 7,732 one month later.

Overall, Cuba has had more than 340,000 coronavirus cases and 2,417 deaths since the outbreak of the deadly virus last year, WPLG said.

Cuban government officials have not said if the recent deaths of the five military leaders were linked to the virus.

Andrew Cuomo.

Booby grabber and ex-political opponent.

If he wanted to be President he should've just ****ed off, washed his hands and fixed himself a nice sammich.

Chris Cuomo's currency will be devalued right quick.

I do NOT sit and watch the media outlets but last night I just had to surf. FOX was on Cuomo like a stink, so were the weird right leaning channels clustered around it. MSNBC was piling on Cuomo heavily, bless their liberal hearts. That's a sign he's screwed. CNN was all about the Olympics with a side dish of covid.

I felt unclean after that exercise so I had to put on TOS Obsession to cleanse my soul.

Perhaps it is better that he had his big debacle as governor of one state rather than president of fifty.

Yes...God forbid anyone should ever get elected president who groped women, harrased women , had affairs with porn stars, and had the gall to even talk about it on the air .
Throw them all in jail.....

Food and energy prices have been soaring so excluding them from these figures is fudging the numbers, making things look a little better than in reality...

Inflation REMAINS at 13-year high at 5.4% - despite Biden insisting soaring prices are temporary: Used car prices and gas soar 42%

A key measure of inflation remained unchanged in July from its June level, spurring fears that price increases will continue to hit Americans in the wallet. Federal data released on Wednesday showed that for the 12 months through July, the consumer price index rose 5.4 percent, unchanged from June and at the highest level since the Great Recession in 2008.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices jumped 0.5 percent from June to July, down from the previous monthly increase of 0.9 percent. Excluding food and energy prices, so-called core inflation rose 4.3 percent in the past year, down from 4.5 percent in June. It follows the Senate passage on Tuesday of President Joe Biden's $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, which some Republican critics have dubbed an 'inflation bomb'.

nivek,

.. It follows the Senate passage on Tuesday of President Joe Biden's $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, which some Republican critics have dubbed an 'inflation bomb'. ..

The inflation bomb was dropped by Trump during his four year reign; it just hasn't gone off yet.
