If Trump had effed up the Dems and the media would have been all over him as well

Gee, ya think? It would be a thousand times worse. One reason I don't want DT to run again is because I don't want to hear any more of the hysterical shrieking

The two new missile subs are multi billion multi year projects that are probably already obsolete as they are being drafted. The US literally owns that market and has for decades. Wonder why they feel the need to spend all that money on them.

The two corvettes and diesel electric boats I would expect to be for the export market so this isn't exactly Hunt for Red October. This is a media stunt and it worked, we still see the big Russian bear but it ain't what it used to be. I suppose those missile boats could be for export too but wherever they go they'll always have company.

US ramps up airlift to evacuate more than 17,000 in a day in race to hit August 31 withdrawal deadline: Biden finally orders troops to rescue Americans in Kabul after first banning them from leaving the airport

47035809-0-image-a-31_1629800518374.jpg

US Special Operations rescued 16 Americans from an unspecified location around two hours outside Kabul early on Monday morning. The Pentagon revealed it was carried out by helicopter without disclosing further details. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby also revealed that last Thursday three Army helicopters picked up 169 Americans near a hotel just beyond the airport gate and flew them onto the runway. The airport has become a relative safe haven but accessing it has proven near impossible due to Taliban checkpoints and chaos among the crowds outside the perimeter.

In a video conference last week, the President told top commanders that he was reluctant to deploy US forces outside the wire over fears of a Black Hawk Down-style tragedy, sources revealed. During the raid, 18 Americans and two United Nations soldiers were killed after two Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were shot down by RPGs. The tragedy later inspired the 2001 Ridley Scott movie Black Hawk Down. But faced with a race against time the President has changed tack and also ramped up its airlift operations, with the biggest haul of evacuations since the crisis started - 28 military jets rescued 10,400 people in the 24 hours to early Monday. Another 15 C-17 flights over the next 12 hours brought out another 6,660. The US is facing a race against time with Taliban warning that if it doesn't keep to its August 31 deadline of a total pull-out there will be 'consequences.'

You mean the hysterical shrieking from DT...?

;)

Well, I am truly sick of DT and all that but I am just as disgusted with the 'piss on my head and tell me it's raining' crowd in charge now.

What I have truly had enough of is those who go and buy the big Crayola 64 box except theirs are all red or blue, except for just one of the opposite color that's used to scribble bad stuff with. Not a shade of gray to be found and no thought that one might even exist.

C'mon doc, I'm sure you've diagnosed myopia before.

Oh yes...I see a lot of it here on this forum. :D
Seriously....yes the groups get entrenched in their ideologies and no one/group wants to try to come to an understanding some where in the middle. The problem is that the ones who are controlling the dialogue in both camps are steeped in their BS and won't listen to any other ideas or approaches.

Last chance to get out of Kabul: Joe Biden rejects pleas from G7 leaders to extend Afghan evacuation beyond August 31st after Taliban insists there can be no extensions - despite secret meeting with CIA - and BANS Afghans from leaving

47049317-0-image-m-17_1629822903104.jpg

President Joe Biden on Tuesday rejected pleas from G7 leaders to extend the Kabul evacuation and has insisted US troops will leave by August 31, after the Taliban issued a chilling warning to western forces who stay. The move now gives the Biden administration just seven days to evacuate thousands of American citizens and Afghan allies still stranded on the ground and fighting to escape the chaos at the airport. The US ramped up the airlift by evacuating 21,600 people in the last 24 hours, but they still don't know the exact number that still need to be flown out - and now time is rapidly running out. Biden agreed with the Pentagon's recommendation to stick with the withdrawal date, according to multiple reports, despite intense pressure from NATO leaders and western allies to leave troops in place and avoid a humanitarian disaster.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were among the leaders who urged Biden to keep boots on the ground longer during the Tuesday meeting. European leaders are worried there is not enough time to evacuate everyone who wants out. Biden spoke for seven minutes during the virtual meeting, according to the White House, after Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid flatly refused to extend the troop deadline and 24 hours after CIA director Bill Burns held secret talks with the insurgents in a bid to get everyone out. The Pentagon recommendation was made on Monday based on concerns about security risks to American forces, a senior administration official said. Biden had asked the Pentagon for contingency plans to stay longer should it be necessary, the official noted. American officials told the Taliban that the U.S. withdrawal by Biden's Aug. 31 deadline is contingent on the group's cooperation in facilitating evacuations, the official said.

Humiliated Boris Johnson pleads with Taliban to continue to let people out AFTER August 31 after Joe Biden snubbed international pleas to extend deadline for withdrawal

Boris Johnson today pleaded with the Taliban to allow people to leave Afghanistan after the US has completed its withdrawal on August 31. Mr Johnson, Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel used a G7 summit to urge Joe Biden to extend the deadline to provide more time for airlifts from Kabul airport to take place. But the entreaties appear to have fallen on deaf ears with the President expected to stick to his exit date for US forces.

A humiliated Mr Johnson said after the summit that the UK will continue to conduct airlifts from the country 'right up until the last moment' as he called on the Taliban to guarantee 'safe passage' for anyone who wants to leave after August 31.

The Taliban today repeated blood-curdling warnings of consequences if there was an attempt to extend the deadline as the group said no-one would be permitted to leave. 'All people should be removed prior to that date,' a spokesman told a press conference in the capital. 'After that we do not allow them. We will take a different stance.'

According to Reuters, the Pentagon told Mr Biden the risks to American forces are too high if they defy the Taliban. White House sources said Mr Biden had agreed with the Pentagon that there would be no change to the timeline of the mission. It means troops will have to abandon the humanitarian operation and start focusing on their own exit plan as soon as tomorrow.

Mr Johnson said the UK's own emergency airlifts would continue for as long as possible.

The USA will never recover credibility after this.

When they pull out the Taliban will have a 'mopping up' field day.

Rooting out and killing everyone even vaguely associated with the Allies effort of the last twenty year.

It will be a blood bath.

Biden begins WITHDRAWING troops from Afghanistan after rejecting G7 pleas to stay past August 31: Psaki says she 'expects' Taliban to let Americans and Afghans evacuees to get to Kabul airport - hours after insurgents said they wouldn't

964x580_JPG-SINGLE_8956173795253138180.jpg

President Joe Biden delivered a snub to his international allies on Tuesday, dismissing the desperate pleas of G7 leaders to extend the Kabul evacuation beyond August 31, after the Taliban issued a chilling warning to western forces who stay and banned Afghans from leaving The move gives the Biden administration just seven days to evacuate thousands of American citizens and local allies still stranded on the ground. And it means that officers will have to begin ordering U.S. troops home within days in order to meet the deadline for clearing the airport.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the president told allies that any delay increased the risks to troops. 'He also made clear that with each day of operations on the ground, we have added risk to our troops with increasing threats from ISIS-K, and that completion of the mission by August 31 depends on continued coordination with the Taliban, including continued access for evacuees to the airport,' she said But she added that the president had asked the Pentagon and State Department for contingency plans in case the departure had to be delayed.

The US ramped up the airlift by evacuating 21,600 people in the past 24 hours, but they still don't know the exact number that still need to be flown out - and now time is rapidly running out. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were among the leaders who urged Biden to keep boots on the ground longer during the Tuesday meeting. Not a case of staying forever. We should have learned from the Russians. And not gone there in the first place.

But it is the way the withdrawal has happened that will bring much resentment.

In a similar situation, no one will want to assist us in case we just pull out and leave them to people who do not have their best interests at heart.

Now here is something to think about.

The talking heads are saying that, even after the allies have moved out , Afghanistan will still need Billions of Dollars in aid to support it.

Isn't there something a bit 'odd' about that.

The US has spent billions of Dollars over twenty years. The other allies have also contributed large amounts.

The new rulers of the country, the Taliban (public enemy number one not long ago) are running the show. All vestiges of the previous government have fled or are trying to.

The Taliban, a hard line Islamic group are now armed with American equipment that the Afghan troops gave them. They will install Sharia law.

Yet the US is still going to give them tax payer's money in the future.

WHY ?

How can any country trust the Americans after this blunder of still unfolding disasterous proportions...This situation is getting uglier with each passing day and could easily become deadlier at any given moment in the next seven days...

Credibilty and trust with who...other Islamic nations who hate us also? Really?
We never had any business there to begin with...and that was Bush's doing in the name of stopping Al Qaeda.
No one in their right mind ever thought that was truly going to work...and it hasn't no matter what some pundits say. The fanatics never gave up.
No one can argue that the withdrawal was handled badly but no Islamic nation has any interest in sincerely being cooperative with us anyway. There isn't one who really likes the USA. We have no business helping Islamic nations who don't want our brand of democracy and certainly don't want western culture and religion.
It is unfortunate that some who helped the US over the years may suffer and that's on us for originally getting them involved to begin with when we knew full well that it would end badly eventually.

Actually, for now anyway, just the opposite is happening. The US is freezing Taliban funds:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2021/08/17/treasury-taliban-money-afghanistan/

This is fanning the flames of fear over possible future actions the Taliban may take. Even if the US can get all of its citizens out in a timely manner, there will undoubtedly be many Afghans remining in the country who worked with the US government in some capacity. They could become prime targets for kidnappers.

It was revealed this week that the CIA has held secret talks with some of the groups. This further damages the notion that the US has a policy against negotiating with known terrorists.

I have a very bad feeling about this.

'We won't get everyone out even by Sept 11': Democrat and Republican lawmakers pay secret trip to Kabul and say Biden will abandon people because he started evacuation too late

Two US military vets who now serve as congressmen flew unannounced into Afghanistan to monitor the on going evacuation efforts as they called on President Joe Biden to extend the US withdrawal deadline past August 31. Rep. Seth Moulton, a Democrat from Massachusetts, and Rep. Peter Meijer, a Republican from Michigan, flew in and out of Kabul airport on Tuesday, with both men adding that they boarded return flights with empty seats so as not to take away space from fleeing Americans and Afghans. They appeared to condemn Joe Biden over his chaotic withdrawal from the war-torn country, and predicted the US would not be able to airlift everyone eligible to leave Afghanistan on time.

'We conducted this visit in secret, speaking about it only after our departure, to minimize the risk and disruption to the people on the ground, and because we were there to gather information, not to grandstand,' the two said in a joint statement. 'As veterans, we care deeply about the situation on the ground at Hamid Karzai International Airport. America has a moral obligation to our citizens and loyal allies, and we must make sure that obligation is being kept.' Later on, they added: 'It’s obvious that because we started the evacuation so late, that no matter what we do, we won’t get everyone out on time, even by September 11. 'Sadly and frustratingly, getting our people out depends on maintaining the current, bizarre relationship with the Taliban.'

So,,,should we stay forever then..?

We should've been getting people out all along and not doing this. I don't tie the Forever War or any need to stay to this goatfuck that's going on right now. That's deflection from the lack of competency - ask Germany and Britain and France and a lot of others if they agree, which I believe they would.
