Insurance providers will no longer waive all costs associated with COVID-19 treatments

The majority of private health insurance companies have stopped waiving patients' fees associated with treatment for COVID-19 as most had done since the early days of the pandemic, a new study has found.

According to an analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF), 72% of U.S. insurers who previously waived cost-sharing or entirely covered treatment costs have quit doing so and another 10% will be phasing out such waivers by the end of October.

In a previous study done in the earlier days of the pandemic, KFF found that 88% of fully insured COVID-19 patients would have had all of their hospitalizations costs waived by their insurer. The group noted that insurance companies were enjoying higher profits during periods of lockdown and uncertainty, as many people put check-ups and elective procedures on hold. But since vaccines became widely available in the U.S. and Americans began going back to the doctor, insurers gradually started pulling back on the waivers.

The cost of treating someone hospitalized with COVID-19 can reach tens of thousands of dollars or more. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan told WXYZ-TV that since the pandemic began, the company has paid out $750 million, and around 250,000 of their members paid nothing out of pocket for the treatments. "No costs," BCBSM Senior VP and Chief Medical Officer Dr. James Grant told the outlet. "If you were on a ventilator, you could've been there a month, two months, three months, that’s expensive. Sometimes seven-digit care. We waived all the costs."

BCBSM will no longer waive COVID-19 treatment costs starting Oct. 1, but vaccinations will continue to be free for members as that is seen as a major preventive measure for keeping patients alive and keeping costs down. A study released by the CDC found that unvaccinated coronavirus patients were 29 times more likely to be hospitalized than vaccinated individuals who caught breakthrough infections.

"95, 96, 97 percent of those that are in the hospital are those that are unvaccinated," Grant went on to say. "So if we can actually get to the unvaccinated, get them to realize the importance and safety of the vaccine, that’s how we’re going to beat this."

Meanwhile, not all insurers have pulled the plug on covering coronavirus treatments.

"Regarding COVID-19 treatment, for the 2021 plan year, Humana will cover out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 treatment for all Humana Medicare Advantage medical plan members," Human spokesperson Mark Mathis told FOX Business, explaining, "COVID-19 treatment is a benefit that is part of Humana’s 2021 Medicare Advantage plans; it is not a ‘cost waiver.’"

Mathis went on to note, "there are differences for other lines of business."

Fauci recommends COVID-19 treatment DeSantis was slammed for promoting

Dr. Anthony Fauci claimed on Tuesday that an antibody treatment previously championed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis can reduce the risk of COVID-19 hospitalization or death by 70% to 85%. The director for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases showcased three different monoclonal antibodies during a White House press briefing that when injected into a person target the spike protein of COVID-19. Fauci explained that the treatments could lessen infection symptoms and prevent hospitalization.

Fauci is not the first person to recommend the antibodies, as DeSantis endorsed the same treatments in early August. An investigation from the Associated Press questioned the financial ties between DeSantis's top donor and the company producing the antibodies, casting doubt on the governor's motivations for promoting the treatments.

DeSantis sent a letter to the Associated Press after the report was published, criticizing the outlet for implying that his support for the treatment was politically driven. "You succeeded in publishing a misleading, clickbait headline about one of your political opponents, but at the expense of deterring individuals infected with COVID from seeking life-saving treatment, which will cost lives," the governor's letter said. "Was it worth it?"

Products from companies Eli Lilly, Regeneron, and GSK/Vir were endorsed by Fauci as valid antibody treatments. All three have received emergency use authorizations from the Food and Drug Administration, meaning that adults and children ages 12 and up are eligible to receive the antibodies.

If taken early after testing positive, a person is far less likely to be hospitalized from the disease, Fauci said.

"So, bottom line is: This is a very effective intervention for COVID-19," Fauci said. "It is underutilized, and we recommend strongly that we utilize this to its fullest."

I am adding new covid fees to insurance processes that our company provides the software for. There have been fees for the vaccines and other treatments since the end of last year. It's just that the states and government were still managing the vaccines. But if you went to a private place to get the vaccine you were charged.

Japan temporarily halted the use of 1.63 million Moderna vaccine doses over claims that tiny particles were found floating in unused vials

Japan halted the use of 1.63 million Moderna doses in its vaccination drive after its health ministry reported foreign substances in some unopened vaccine vials. Medical workers across the country reported 39 instances of foreign substances floating in unused vaccine vials, per Kyodo News. The vials were found in eight vaccination sites across five prefectures - Ibaraki, Saitama, Tokyo, Gifu, and Aichi.

The Japanese health authorities say the 1.63 million doses of Moderna vaccine are from three vaccine batches produced in Spain under the lot numbers 3004667, 3004734, and 3004956, per the Japan Times. The use of vaccines from these batches has been suspended temporarily as a safety precaution. The substances found in the vaccine vials were tiny particles several millimeters in size, though it is unknown what exactly these particles were made of.

Two die in Japan after shots from suspended Moderna vaccines

Two people died after receiving Moderna Inc COVID-19 vaccine shots that were among lots later suspended following the discovery of contaminants, Japan's health ministry said on Saturday.

The men in their 30s died this month within days of receiving their second Moderna doses, the ministry said in a release. Each had a shot from one of three manufacturing lots suspended on Thursday. The causes of death are being investigated.

New Covid variant detected in South Africa is the 'most mutated so far': Scientists warn it could evade vaccines

A coronavirus variant first detected in South Africa 'could be more infectious' than other mutations and have the potential to 'evade vaccines', scientists have said.

The C.1.2 strain, which is linked to 'increased transmissibility', is more mutations away from the original virus seen in Wuhan, experts at South Africa's National Institute for Communicable Diseases and the KwaZulu-Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform said.

The virus was first identified by scientists in South Africa in May and has since been found in England, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mauritius, New Zealand, Portugal and Switzerland.

In their study scientists found the strain, which descends from the C.1 strain that was first spotted amid the first wave of the pandemic, has a mutation rate of about 41.8 mutations per year.

This rate is nearly double the current global mutation rate seen in any other Variant of Concern (VOC) so far.

During their study, researchers found a monthly increase in the number of C.1.2 genomes in South Africa, rising from 0.2 per cent in May to 1.6 per cent in June and 2.0 per cent in July.

This short period of consistent increase has also been spotted in the Alpha, Beta and Gamma variants.

Scientists also found 14 mutations in nearly 50 per cent of the variants which had a C.1.2 sequence.

While more research is required 'to determine the functional impact of these mutations', scientists warned the latest variant, which has 'mutated substantially', could help the virus evade antibodies and immune responses.

Well, I hope he is taking a dose that doesn't kill him or cause some other ailment.

My niece took one dose on the advice of her Aunt and when my sister found out she hit the roof and explained why it was not a good idea. If you have parasites Ivermetin is common to use for that and was developed for humans first before it was used on pets and livestock in the U.S. But any relief you get using it for a virus is most likely a placebo effect. The crazy thing about this is that my sister's sister-in-law was a nurse who worked in a lab for 35 years. My sister and her husband are farmers and they do use ivermectin when needed on the animals.

Just try to comprehend how many people could have been saved by early treatment of the two parasitic drugs that have been around for years instead of telling people to go home and not come back till they couldnt breath anymore.
All in the name of profit. This is the biggest genocide the world has ever seen, and it may be just getting started.

Actually, I think the Ivermectin idea is a money grab by Merk, who sells it in the U.S. They didn't have a Covid Vaccine so they are suggesting that Ivermectin is helpful. It makes no sense to me, but I am not medically trained, a biologist or virologist. I may be wrong but I am not taking Ivermectin, and my sister, who uses it for her livestock and pets does not think it is a good idea. She does have some medical training.
