In the meantime vaccine mandates that the anti-vaxers keep bitching about are nothing new:

Gen. George Washington Ordered Smallpox Inoculations for All Troops

"
n late 1776, as Gen. George Washington led his troops through the opening battles of the American Revolution, it was not necessarily the enemy fighters who posed the biggest risk to the fledgling U.S. Army.

An estimated 90% of deaths in the Continental Army were caused by disease, and the most vicious were variants of smallpox, according to the U.S. Library of Congress.

That's why Gen. Washington made the controversial decision to order the mass inoculation of his soldiers, an effort to combat spread of the disease that was at the time a major deterrent to enlistments and posed the risk of debilitating his army and tipping the balance of power against America's first warfighters.

According to the U.S. Library of Congress's Science, Technology, and Business Division, the smallpox inoculations began Jan. 6, 1777, for all of Washington's forces who came through the then-capital of Philadelphia, and through Morristown, New Jersey, following the Battle of Princeton.

Smallpox is a potentially fatal disease that starts with fever and vomiting and an outbreak of ulcers in the mouth and a skin rash. The skin rash turns into highly contagious fluid-filled blisters. The fatality rate was very high.

Inoculations were far more primitive - and dangerous - than today's vaccinations. The most common method was to cut a person's skin and rub the minor incision with a thread or cloth contaminated with a less-virulent version of smallpox, which in this case was a strain known as "variola."........."

I know Martha was an active proponent. Also that George may had had smallpox at some point and survived, he supposedly had a badly pock marked face. And red hair. At least that's what they tell you on the tour.

Sanitation was another huge source of misery and death and still can be. Army encampments of that era (and most later) are notorious. Frankly, covid revealed to me how disgusting some of us are, not that it should have been a surprise. Something as simple as washing your hands after using the bathroom shouldn't be a burden in where clean water and soap is commonly available. But is for too many people, if you take the time to notice.

The CDC hasn't really had any goals in mind to end this pandemic, they have been flying by the seat of their pants and have made this pandemic too political now...Then with headlines such as this one below, it seems to me they want to keep this pandemic ongoing with no end in sight to maintain the control and power they and those associated with them have in their pockets...

Herd immunity is the main, (and to me) the only way to end this pandemic...

CDC shifts pandemic goals away from reaching herd immunity

My speculative theory on the anti-vaxers is this: Most have already had Covid and are not aware of this long term side effect - It effects the brain !!!
In a World where vaccines have been around since at least the time of George Washington, where the dreaded Polio virus epidemic was stopped by a vaccine and how many other vaccines are routinely given to kids before going to school and where side effects have been shown to be rare - There must be something wrong with the minds of people who are willing to lose their jobs to avoid this vaccine when 99% of them were well vaccinated with other vaccines before they went to school as children.
This anti-vax mentality is madness on a huge scale - And I finally realized that it is not accidental - So maybe there is another long term side effect of having Covid - Delusional thinking !!!
I think if we were to test these anti vax people accurately we might find most of them already had Covid and its messing with their minds as a long term side effect.

Oklahoma deer test positive for the coronavirus. Here's what to know
A few Oklahoma deer have recently tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies, a state wildlife official said Friday.

"We really don't know how they got it," said Dallas Barber, big game biologist for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. "A small percentage (of blood tests) did come back positive just for antibodies, meaning they were exposed at some point in time."

But wildlife experts say there is such a low risk of humans catching the coronavirus from a deer that there is no reason for alarm.

"It's an exceedingly low likelihood that would be a transmission route," said Dwayne Elmore, OSU Extension wildlife specialist.

Elmore has received dozens of inquiries on the topic since NPR published a story Wednesday about the coronavirus being widely spread through deer populations in the United States.

A recent survey of white-tailed deer in the Northeast and Midwest found that 40% of them had antibodies against the coronavirus, according to the NPR report.
Elmore said there is no evidence that deer can transmit the coronavirus to humans.
"The small chance, the way you might could get it from a harvested deer, is if you put your hand in the respiratory tract or on their mouth and then touched your mouth," he said. "Don't ever do that."

Should you wear a mask while hunting deer?
Wearing a mask would provide an extra level of precaution for a hunter, he said.

"You could wear a mask while you are handling a deer, but without the deer respiring there is not likely to be even small droplets circulating," Elmore said.

Elmore said he wasn't surprised to learn the coronavirus has now been found in Oklahoma deer because of the high rate of infection in other states.

The fact it is now widespread in deer herds across the country is just more evidence that the coronavirus probably will never be eradicated, he said.

"It's going to go from an epidemic, which we have now, to an endemic disease, meaning it's always with us," Elmore said. "However, most epidemiologists have already said we were there.

"They didn't think we were ever getting rid of this. It's already in cats and dogs and ferrets and primates and, of course, humans all over the world.

"I think for a long time most disease specialists were leaning toward 'we are going to be stuck with this thing.' Adding it to deer just increases the likelihood of that being the case."

"The strains that have been detected in deer match humans, which indicates that it does appear it went from humans to deer, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will go back the other way, but we can't rule that out," Elmore said.

Even if a deer could transmit the coronavirus to a human, it is much more likely that a person would catch the virus from close contact with another person, rather than from a deer walking through a neighborhood, he said.

Oklahoma's most popular hunting season, the deer gun season, opens Nov. 20. Both Barber and Elmore recommend hunters take the same precautions when handling a deer carcass they would normally, such as wearing gloves.

Deer in Iowa appear to be catching COVID-19 from humans. Could it happen in other states?

"Wear gloves, don't touch your face, and throw the gloves away," Elmore said.

Wearing gloves always has been a standard health precaution suggested for hunters who are field dressing a deer, even before the coronavirus.

Because the coronavirus triggers a respiratory tract infection, catching it from a deer which is not breathing is highly unlikely, Elmore said.

Well, they're not wrong, Australia and New Zealand has been on steroids with their over-reaction to Covid, I never thought I would see the day...

Australia vaccine-mandate protesters compare state govt to Nazis - media

Several thousand people rallied in Melbourne against new vaccination mandates on Saturday, with a few comparing the state government to Nazis and calling for violence against politicians, local media said.

In Australia, where 83% of people aged 16 and above have been fully inoculated against the coronavirus, nationwide vaccinations are voluntary. But states and territories have mandated vaccinations for many occupations and barred the unvaccinated from activities such as dining out and concerts.

The Melbourne demonstration against the vaccination mandate that came into effect on Saturday - requiring construction workers in Victoria state to be fully inoculated - was peaceful, with no immediate reports of unruly behaviour or arrests.

Pentagon says it will respond to Oklahoma's governor after state's National Guard rejects its vaccine mandate

(CNN) The Pentagon said it would respond to Oklahoma's Republican governor after the state's National Guard indicated it would thwart a Defense Department mandate that troops be vaccinated against Covid-19. The Department said it was "aware" of a memo issued this week by the Oklahoma National Guard's recently installed adjutant.

This is a huge revelation, they dont want to end this pandemic...They can't have continual boosters, continual profits, and continual control if we reach herd immunity...For them the only acceptable immunity is vaccine immunity, which is unattainable but here we go with endless boosters shots...

...

All Of A Sudden The CDC Has Stopped Talking About Herd Immunity

In case you haven't noticed, the CDC no longer looks as concerned with herd immunity as it once did. In what should come as no surprise to anyone watching the Covid related narrative closely (or those who have been watching the herd immunity narrative from the get-go), the CDC has "set aside herd immunity as a national goal," according to a new report from the LA Times.

What used to be a relatively simple concept has now turned into something "very complicated", according to Dr. Jefferson Jones, a medical officer on the CDC’s COVID-19 Epidemiology Task Force.

“Thinking that we’ll be able to achieve some kind of threshold where there’ll be no more transmission of infections may not be possible,” he said to a panel that advises the CDC last week.

While Jones says vaccines are effective against Covid, "even if vaccination were universal, the coronavirus would probably continue to spread," the report says.

Ergo, herd immunity seems to now be off the table. “We would discourage” thinking in terms of “a strict goal,” Jones said.

Dr. Oliver Brooks, a member of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices told the L.A. Times that “we do need to increase” the uptake of Covid shots

Herd immunity was only previously talked about (prior to the Covid-19 pandemic) as a consequence of vaccination, as herd immunity without vaccination is not easily achievable. In the public sphere, I remember the aspiration of herd immunity (prior to the appearance of vaccines) was one primarily of anti-lockdown advocates. Hopes of herd immunity due to vaccines by scientists and medics were short-lived, lasting only until the Delta variant appeared many months ago. It was pointed out by you on this thread in the spring here:

Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus

Also, see my post immediately after with the quantitative reasons as to why herd immunity is not possible with the Delta variant (and maybe even only with the Alpha variant, which arose the previous spring).

Thanks, I was looking for your post with those charts but couldn't find it, this time I printed it lol...If we cannot reach herd immunity, does it seem possible that we can get to the point where only a small percentage of the population is truly vulnerable to Covid with the greater percentage protected either by vaccination or prior illness?...At that point, if achieved, it would seem that this coronavirus may diminish and kept from causing any noticeable disruption in our society...

long term cognitive impairment due to covid, eh?
Assessment of Cognitive Function in Patients After COVID-19 Infection

"In this study, we found a relatively high frequency of cognitive impairment several months after patients contracted COVID-19. Impairments in executive functioning, processing speed, category fluency, memory encoding, and recall were predominant among hospitalized patients. The relative sparing of memory recognition in the context of impaired encoding and recall suggests an executive pattern. This pattern is consistent with early reports describing a dysexecutive syndrome after COVID-194 and has considerable implications for occupational, psychological, and functional outcomes. It is well known that certain populations (eg, older adults) may be particularly susceptible to cognitive impairment after critical illness5; however, in the relatively young cohort in the present study, a substantial proportion exhibited cognitive dysfunction several months after recovering from COVID-19. The findings of this study are generally consistent with those of research on other viruses (eg, influenza).6"

People who have been vaccinated, or who have survived earlier illness, are generally less vulnerable to Covid. It also does not affect children too badly. SARS-CoV-2 will likely become an endemic, probably seasonal, infection like other human coronaviruses that are in circulation, eventually, as population immunity builds. Herd immunity requires a vaccination of the whole population with a 90%+ effectiveness against infection (not merely against hospitalization or death). The vaccines we have were developed for the virus circulating last year, not this year, and getting compliance from the whole population to be injected with a new Delta-specific vaccine is seemingly not realistic.
